Ghoultober 2024 - Day 13: Eyepatch
ft. the Qs Amon AU
eyepatch
i had to go with that time touka kicked amon in the face and he had to wear an eyepatch
Mannn Amon-post-Takatsuki-Sen-interview would have been a great time for him to run into Kaneki. What if he didn't take that information to his 'grave.'
Hear me out: his faith in the CCG has been shaken to the core and he doesn't have anyone on the inside he can corroborate with let alone talk to. He doesn’t know how to move forward with it. and so it died with him But it wouldn't be so hard for him to believe the ghoul who’s been on a near parallel investigation has information he can corroborate with. If Kaneki can admit he was chasing down Kanou that is. Confiding in a ghoul on CCG matters may be a blow to his morals, but he’s been convinced talking to Eyepatch will help him understand the world his past ever since their first fight.
They're both in the throes of their world being upturned and are trying to pursue the truth. (Kaneki is already in the 20th ward at this point learning about V. That’s a whooole other can of worms.) Hearing the CCG side of things with Kanou / the Yasuhisas would be of interest to Kaneki.
Amon is also like. Less than a half step away from piecing together that Eyepatch was another one of Kanou’s experiments in the underground lab. He saw those bodies with identical kagunes. He saw Kurona’s kakugan. He knows what human experimentation took place. And it wouldn’t take long after to deduce he’s likely Kaneki Ken given the timeline of when & where Eyepatch first appeared. But, at this point, it’s information Amon Knows he can’t trust the CCG with.
Anyway, this is the last time in TG they'd be able to have that long-awaited conversation before everything goes to hell and they swap roles. And it would be So interesting with how much they've learned and changed as people.
I couldn't think of any great ideas for his birthday so y'know what, just let him be comfy. Let him have little domestic moments where he's calm and doesn't need to sleep with one eye open and he's surrounded by people he trusts and loves and-

I love you.
Koutarou being labeled a ghoul by CCG.. Kid Koutarou having found out about Donato and having to help him like in canon.. But then either the CCG doesn't come or the CCG does come but either Donato kills them either, oh well, Koutarou helps. And so their killings go on. And so the report of an old ghoul and a younger one comes to be. Koutarou is 100% human but no one knows that. Koutarou being labeled an A rate or something, higher than a lot of ghouls. Koutarou picking up quinques from dead investigators like Hakatori. Koutarou holding his own and winning when fighting ghouls who wanted a snack. Donato as a silent guardian that will absolutely wreck everything if anyone harms his kid. Clown Koutarou.
This couple is disgusting and that’s the reason I like it
do you have any headcanons about how Amon was raised and how Donato treated him/the other kids in general?
Oh god yes so many. The orphanage era is one of my favorite things to think about ever. And I want to preface that by saying that what's canon is that 1) Donato cooks/bakes for them, 2) they had a dog, 3) Donato treated the kids rather well
(I am in love with this page)
So this got way out of hand but here are my headcanons
- The kids were treated good, not because Donato particularly liked them but because abuse would lead to suspicion of his activities. To cover his tracks well enough, he had to be a good father the rest of the time.
- Also abuse decreases food quality which would defeat the point of bothering to raise children to eat them in the first place
- Still to cover his tracks, he operated the orphanage by himself, which probably means there weren't a lot of kids there at once. And also he's crazy efficient and good at paperwork.
- This was a Catholic orphanage so mandatory mass every Sunday, mass on week days wasn't mandatory but they could go if they wanted. Most didn't but Koutarou went.
- Altar boy Koutarou..
- Tied to my hc that Donato is at least a century old, he taught the prayers in Latin
- Donato's faith is real and he was actually ordained loooong ago
- Koutarou was the known favorite. Like every parent, Donato says he doesn't play favorite but they all knew he definitely was.
- That's because though he didn't care about the other kids, his love for Koutarou is genuine. He was the first surprised by that
- Koutarou was the oldest because Donato kept putting off eating him (deep down he knew he never would)
- The kids went to the local school, Donato helped them with their homework in the evening. Koutarou stepped up as the big brother and also helped :3
- (I know nothing about actual geography but) the orphanage was near a small village where everyone knew both the kids and Donato. Donato cultivated his image among the people there, still to cover his tracks and also because that was his parish.
- The kids were the village's children basically. Like a lot of Catholic foundations, the orphanage depended on donations to keep going. So yeah everyone contributed to raising those kids
- The dog was either a stray or someone in the village had puppies and either offered it to the kids or the kids begged Donato to adopt it
- They gave it a really dumb name
- Donato only knows lullabies in his mother tongue so that's what he sang the kids when they couldn't sleep or they were sick
- He swears in that language too btw. The kids didn't get what that meant exactly but they got that they were bad words and the context in which they're said. They absolutely picked it up. Koutarou still swears like that
- They celebrate every birthday. Donato personally makes the cakes each time, to the taste of the kid
- They celebrate the Catholic holy days too, and Donato goes all out for these
- The kids make bets about dessert all the time. Koutarou only makes bets he knows he'll win: he wants those sweets and he's not giving his away. After the donuts incident, Donato always made one or two extra for his boy.
- There was a uniform
- Donato was unprepared for how big Koutarou was growing because he had never kept a kid around that long and also Koutarou was always pretty tall
- Thank goodness the CCG showed up when Koutarou was 12 because Donato was most definitely not equipped to deal with puberty
- Koutarou wanted to become a priest like his dad and keep the orphanage going
- The kids had tasks they had to do daily/weekly in the orphanage like setting the table, cleaning the windows etc. The kids didn't have the same task each time, so that everyone got to do a little of everything. They complained about it a lot. They traded tasks among themselves - Donato didn't mind so long as it was done in the end.
- Donato definitely used his clones sometimes to do stuff while he was busy.
- Donato kept all the drawings the kids made for him in a folder but he displayed Koutarou's in his room or his office.
- Every year there was a group picture taken. It was framed and displayed in the halls. Individual pictures were also taken and Donato kept one of his baby in his wallet
- Donato rarely got angry but it was more feared when it happened because of that. He never hit the kids before the moment he killed them, tho. Adds to the horror of being murdered by your oh so loving father 👍
- Koutarou is a bad liar, canon, so after he found out, it got weird at the orphanage. They all knew something was wrong with him and that he was trying his best not to show it and he lied about it when asked. The teachers and villagers also suspected something, which is probably how the CCG ultimately ended up there.
- For a long time afterwards, Koutarou didn't eat meat
This turned more into general orphanage hcs than what you asked, sorry 🙈 but thank you so much for asking sksksksk 💕💕💕 they're my favorite subject
(side note: I have an entire fic about the orphanage if you want, it's called Blood is Thicker on AO3, my handle is TheClownsLaugh, and it's about what if Furuta escaped the Garden and ended up at Donato's orphanage instead)
