I designed a fake Shouka Sonjuku text book for my Ginpachi Sensei cosplay (gonna put it on a Ranma 1/2 volume -photos under the cut). Kind of based on this Shoukason cosplay.

I finished Gintama, thanks to those who motivated me. I cried and laughed the whole time I watched the movie. I'm glad I picked up this series. I love everyone, every character (except Sadasada. rot in hell sadasada!!). This is the only show where I do not hate any of the characters (except Sadasada).

The community is lovely and supportive too! Cant wait for the Ginpachi sensei series!

That part where Katsura is having a whole make-believe scene with a traffic cone talking with 'Matsuko' and role-playing both 'Matsuko' and her 'father-in-law' in the Driving Test Ep.

Had the thought that you can write 'Matsuko' as 松子 (have to check the manga to see if it's actually written that way). This is not the first time Katsura has referred to 'Matsu' - see Goninja arc.

"matsu" is the first kanji of 'Shouyou'.

Is Traffic Cone family drama the Katsura version of Shouyou vs Utsuro inner mind dialogue

ETA: 'matsuko' could also maybe be Ikumatsu?? This reminds me, I should reread the basketball delusion, I think some of the players he mentions use some of the kanji for the Joy4...

Look at this:

He dresses in a 'western' coat & wears an eyepatch over his left eye, with his white-and-of-dubious-humanity companion in it. (Takasugi with Gintoki burned into his left eye)

The daughter's name is Matsuko, written 松子, first character being the 'Pine' in 'Shouyou'. The 'ko' suffix makes the name feminine, but the kanji itself is 'child'

There's a fricken full moon, after a water scene to boot (is the bathing scene relevant, given Gintoki's working at an onsen that helps spirits move on?)

This 'wandering at night with a lantern' is common enough I guess, but a similar scene happened in Takasugi's Shougun Assassin action flashback, and also those scenes with Takasugi and Katsura 'peering into' Shouka Sonjuku from the outside

Matsuko refuses 'stepping into a new life' and claims that though they are not connected by blood, that is her father (Gintoki?? Or Takasugi & Oboro if Shouyou remembered their names /jk)

The father-in-law turns into a mole. Moles are underground (like a seed, or... a corpse?)

The father-in-law tries to kill himself, saying that Matsuko is better off without him, that if only he wasn't around she would be happy, referring to himself as a 'curse' on her (Shouyouuuuuu Takasugiiiiii)

And there's a brief moment where Katsura does a drawl when he's doing the father-in-law 's voice, which is one of Takasugi' speech quirks

Am I? Reading too much into this??

Found the other Matsuko drama. It was the delusion Katsura was having in the island prison.

Katsura is actually in his own delusion this time.

This 'always smiling', 'can jump higher than anyone' and 'kind to animals' traits... Is this a refraction of Shouyou? Like in the way Hedoro is supposed to be always kind to living creatures, but is absurdly strong and has two sides in Silver Soul.

Her name is 松原松子. That's TWO PINES in her name.

Her rival is Sugiyama. Yes, that is the same 'sugi' as in Takasugi.

And Sugiyama is mad that Matsuko has withdrawn as a starting member, claiming that Matsuko is their ace. (like Gintoki is the Joui's shiroyasha??)

Matsuko withdrew because she's worried about Sugiyama's body. Even though Matsuko wants to fly higher than anyone and anything. (Gintoki holding himself in the past to save Takasugi and Katsura vibes)

When Matsuko goes to see Sugiyama, Sugiyama tells her that she's come to the wrong place. And Sugiyama has a monologue about how what she truly wanted was to stand on the same court as Matsuko.

*squints*

is this post-Shoass Takasugi? Is this final battle Takasugi telling Gintoki to go back to the Yorozuya? Is this Gintoki's 'more than the number of matches I'd have liked to exchange sake cups'??

The kanji is written as 'close friend' but pronounced as 'rival'.

The significance of the number 13 is... MAYORA13? (Hijikata as a mirror-inverse of Takasugi & /or Gintoki) Maybe?

(if I REALLY wanna break out the tinfoil hat, you could read 13 as ひとみ hitomi, which could mean.. 瞳 '(pupil of) the eye', or maybe even 人身, which is 'the human body' or 'one' s person')

Happens as Katsura describes the THIRTEENTH sheep (which are white. And fluffy. Like Gintoki.) jumping HIGH (Taka) over the fence.

Scrolling past this again when I realized that these two screencaps right after each other makes it look like camera dude shot a laser out of his camera and obliterated Shouka Sonjuku.
