Among other things, the punishment includes having hot air blown into one's ear, being on the other end of the Avatar's pain upon learning of your betrayal, and witnessing her exhausted, grieving and in desperate need of help.
And having your whole worldview and a sense of morality reset and redefined, urging you to make up for every misstep because it's right and because you want to do it for her.
I'm going to start fucking yelling again
(inspired by this absolutely heartbreaking piece by thyinum)
trigger warning: dissociation, self-harm, grief, implied character death, hint at violent imagery, hint at suicidal ideation
Alright, here we go. I’m writing the essay. Make sure to take notes; this will be on the exam.
Every Avatar has an element that they struggle with. An element that they struggle to master, an element that just isn’t as powerful compared to the others they use. Aang’s was earthbending. Roku’s was waterbending. Korra’s was airbending.
This is my case for Yangchen’s ‘struggle’ element being water.
(Note: This will contain major spoilers for both Yangchen novels. Her appearance in The Rift comic is also mentioned, but less spoiler-y)
attempt one: FAILED ‼️
attempt two: FAILED ‼️
attempt three: OH MY GOD SERIOUSLY?! FAILED ‼️
(perform to that level… perform how, yangchen, hm?)
CHALLENGE: IMPOSSIBLE
Kavik is an example of a well-written, sensitive, caring yet trying not to be, conflicted yet ultimately good character who undergoes incredible growth and some of you seriously don't appreciate him enough.
He was Avatar Gun’s closest companion and best friend. And just as Gun, we don’t know any gender or nationality. (I like to think he’s a Earth Kindom man) Also, he seems to be more faithful on humanity’s value than his best friend.
He’s described as a skilled poet and engineer who wrote numerous books, one of them being “A Discourse on Floodplain Management”
He drowned on the harbor city of Ha’an after Avatar Gun’s failed attempt to hold back a tsunami. After this, Gun mourned him for “quite a while” before returning to his duty.
We don’t know any gender of nationality from this avatar. Most people associate him as a male from the Earth Kingdom or the Water-tribes, because of the nature of his name and the info we know about him.
All we know about him is a failed attempt to hold back a Tsunami at the harbor city of Ha’an, where his best friend and companion drowned.
Reading dawn of yangchen and wondering if any avatar ever considered suicide in avatar state to end the cycle because it must feel so hopeless at times
That one cave scene from the Dawn of Yangchen
The creation of an airbender staff ⚒️
PS: Even though you can't really see it there's a mark carved into the tip of the staff that says "Jetsun"
One of those days when I have the spoons for it I'm going to make a list of canon moments that indicate that Yangchen and Kavik want each other carnally (in addition to every other way they want each other). And there's going to be a lot to pick from.
There's something to be said about the way Yangchen immediately notices that Kavik is good-looking and tells him to his face right away. I think it's because she's not used to feeling attraction and therefore she's stating it as a fact, even when Kavik's teeth, cheekbones and most importantly lips keep living in her head rent free. She values and appreciates their bond (before the betrayal), tells him as much, but it's admitting internally to herself that she does in fact find him hot where things get stuck.
Kavik on the other hand yaps internally and to other people how pretty she is but would probably die of embarrassment if he were to tell her directly, and as the book progresses, his internal commentary about her gets more and more sappy, it shows more and more how deeply he cares about her and wants to be beside her. He doesn't exactly have a problem recognizing that he's attracted to her, it's the deeper feelings that are troublesome.
Avatar Yangchen, my stalking queen, you will always be famous:
the best part about Yangvik is that their first meeting consists of him unknowingly robbing her, her firing the guards who roughed him up, and then the two of them psychomanipulating each other at the exact same time. I love them.
