#I love the way you use light in your pieces.. but in this one it's such an interesting subversion#your Yangvik pieces usually contain a sense of warmth. the flickering flame or sunlight#it illuminates them. renews them both#but in this one her back is turned to the golden light behind her. her face and front completely shadowed#stressing the deep lines under her eyes. the exhaustion to the point of defeat#what's there to care about that won't be eventually taken from her? it shouldn't matter. worse happened#loss upon loss upon loss. she should remember well enough. maybe if she insists that it doesn't matter it won't touch her anymore#it won't feel like a loss. and yet she's in the dark. as if everything that illuminated her life before is behind her#Yangchen#the legacy of yangchen

#Yangchen#she looks so lovely.. and yet it almost looks out of place on her#try to count how many times she smiles in the books. smiles. no smirking#it's that - read DoYLoY drinking game and stay mostly sober maybe lightly in the mood#which is to say.. as much as I'm a complete sucker for angst. I need to come up with a scenario where she looks like this#that spark in her eyes.. that healthy glow on her face.. how clear she appears in this one#and I sort of want to go a different direction and have it be unrelated to Yangvik. or very little to do with it#I want her to feel at peace with herself. Gun/Mesose and Yangchen/Kavik
Trying to pull these two braincells together thinking about the points of connection between these two in their eras and a lot of it centers around the feelings of grief, loss, and love.
When Gun lost his companion Mesose in the tsunami at Ha'an, there was a long time when he pulled away from his avatar duties. A form of retreat and isolation to cope with the emotions of losing someone close to them.
While the explicit labels on Gun and Mesose's relationship is unclear, the primary point is Gun losing someone important to them.
To go to Yangchen, she also experienced different levels of loss and the reader sees how heavy the burden is to be the avatar and she coped with it by overworking and isolation.
She lost Jetsun. There was the period when Kavik betrayed her. And let's also consider her banishment from the Norther Air Temples as form of loss.
What if while Gun may not have acted on any romantic connections with Mesose not realizing until it was too late, it may not be too late for Yangchen and Kavik.
Life is fragile and quick to change and amidst all the loss Yangchen experienced, she found Kavik and her coming back together as a way to not chance feelings go unrecognized in this lifetime.
#this#This this this omg#I'm already in my feels because of thyinum's newest piece. how Yangchen at 8 had nightmares about Mesose#the pain must have been immeasurable#and well. we know how much she is hurting on her own#and I believe that there's still grieving and accepting to go over#but in the end.. she doesn't want more regrets of not doing something#therefore.. there's still time. she can have this if she wants#she already knows that the betrayal broke him as much as it broke her#oh how I just want her to embrace her feelings. choose him. no definition just the bond#one could argue that she already did. she already told him that she wanted him to stay by her side until the work is finished#(which it will never be. the work of the Avatar is never done)#still. Alright, here we go. I’m writing the essay. Make sure to take notes; this will be on the exam.
Every Avatar has an element that they struggle with. An element that they struggle to master, an element that just isn’t as powerful compared to the others they use. Aang’s was earthbending. Roku’s was waterbending. Korra’s was airbending.
This is my case for Yangchen’s ‘struggle’ element being water.
(Note: This will contain major spoilers for both Yangchen novels. Her appearance in The Rift comic is also mentioned, but less spoiler-y)
