I stand by my canceled wife (complex fictional female character who is treated like shit by the fandom)
«Her bark extinguished the candle flames. The light vanished, replaced by smoke. Yangchen’s features were blanked out in the darkness, and the hallway lamps outside cast her heavy silhouette in the frame of the entryway. It was like she had an alcove to herself already»
Oh dear boy, not only her blessings, she herself is hanging above you like the worst parody of a protective charm you could ever ask for.
I'm going to start fucking yelling again
hc that yangchen was able to converse with her immediate past lives bc she was that much of a spiritual prodigy

trigger warning: dissociation, self-harm, grief, implied character death, hint at violent imagery, hint at suicidal ideation
Gun/Mesose and Yangchen/Kavik
Trying to pull these two braincells together thinking about the points of connection between these two in their eras and a lot of it centers around the feelings of grief, loss, and love.
When Gun lost his companion Mesose in the tsunami at Ha'an, there was a long time when he pulled away from his avatar duties. A form of retreat and isolation to cope with the emotions of losing someone close to them.
While the explicit labels on Gun and Mesose's relationship is unclear, the primary point is Gun losing someone important to them.
To go to Yangchen, she also experienced different levels of loss and the reader sees how heavy the burden is to be the avatar and she coped with it by overworking and isolation.
She lost Jetsun. There was the period when Kavik betrayed her. And let's also consider her banishment from the Norther Air Temples as form of loss.
What if while Gun may not have acted on any romantic connections with Mesose not realizing until it was too late, it may not be too late for Yangchen and Kavik.
Life is fragile and quick to change and amidst all the loss Yangchen experienced, she found Kavik and her coming back together as a way to not chance feelings go unrecognized in this lifetime.
ahhhh so the guilt is NOT supposed to be neverending and haunting and constant and persisting beyond a doubt over even the most menial of things that i would not be upset at someone else for. i understand now.
Sad sad yangvik
Avatar Yangchen & The Elements
Alright, here we go. I’m writing the essay. Make sure to take notes; this will be on the exam.
Every Avatar has an element that they struggle with. An element that they struggle to master, an element that just isn’t as powerful compared to the others they use. Aang’s was earthbending. Roku’s was waterbending. Korra’s was airbending.
This is my case for Yangchen’s ‘struggle’ element being water.
(Note: This will contain major spoilers for both Yangchen novels. Her appearance in The Rift comic is also mentioned, but less spoiler-y)
For the fic ask game: “She polishes herself into a perfect vessel of justice, even if she grants very little of it to herself. No matter what it's going to cost her or her reputation, Yangchen will do what's right.”
THISSSSSS
(from this fic)
Oh, thank you for indulging me with this game! 🩵 That line manages to summarize her character quite well, doesn't it?
Yangchen (as they get ready for the Sparrowbones match): spirits , Kavik is such a cunning liar, i can't believe i'm going to sleep with him
Tayagum: well, you don't have to
Yangchen: nah, i'm gonna
Yangchen stop thinking about Kavik’s hands challenge…
attempt one: FAILED ‼️
attempt two: FAILED ‼️
attempt three: OH MY GOD SERIOUSLY?! FAILED ‼️
(perform to that level… perform how, yangchen, hm?)
CHALLENGE: IMPOSSIBLE
