Been a bit since my last post. I've been painting off & on, but simply haven't worked up the motivation to actually photograph the little buggers. With that, the Gladiator:
This one was a bit experimental, succeeded on some levels, failed on others. Initially, I wanted to see what I could do with a solid base coat, and black edging, to try and get a borderlands-y look. Unfortunately, that didn't end up panning out, and so I just went over it with a black wash.
Where I succeeded was with the visor & medium lasers. I tried out those "gemstone" paints citadel has. I really like using them. They make for better cockpits than a simple wash does. A bit finnicky though.
Another thing I think I did well is the coil lighting. Quite rewarding to see what I wanted go from brain to mini relatively well.
All that said, I like how this one turned out, and I got good practice in, and learned some new things. That being said, I'm unsure how to make regular paint into a dry paint. Citadel doesn't have a black dry paint for easy black highlights, and I'm not sure what other paint brands would have such a thing at a decent quality. As always, suggestions, tips, etc, always welcome.
Looking good!
You can use any paint to do drybrushing, the dry paints just have a consistency that makes it a little easier. I actually very rarely use actual 'dry' paint for drybrushing
