I was thinking that! It was the only thing that made sense to me the first time I watched it. But what you say makes more sense on that generally, miraculous doesn’t require us to remember previous episodes. We will see!!!

The problem this entire season has been characters not talking to each other or telling the truth or being honest about what they think/feel

The Akuma that sets off the events of the season finale has the power to lower peoples’ inhibitions thus making them say exactly what they think and do exactly what they want to do

Amazing

Even better when you realize Risk will still be in effect in the next episode, with Ladynoir.

Meaning we are going to see a conversation between Ladybug and Chat Noir where they will have no filter and be willing to take all the risks they need in having their say 👀👀👀

So I rewatched Dearest Family last night, and it got me thinking. The arc Marinette goes through regarding Tikki makes me think of the arc she’ll need to go through regarding Chat Noir as well. 

Near the beginning of the episode, Tikki eats the galette that was meant for all the kwamis, something the other kwamis realize quickly. But Marinette’s quick to defend Tikki, even though she knows she’s guilty.

Good on Marinette to believe in Tikki, but in this case, the other kwamis are right. Marinette doesn’t want to believe that Tikki might have a problem - and Tikki’s not exactly forthcoming about it either - so she thinks the other kwamis must be exaggerating. She thinks she knows Tikki better than anyone else. But as the episode later shows, that is not the case.

Marinette finds out that Sass was right: she DIDN’T know Tikki as well as she thought she did. Tikki has weaknesses and problems that she never would have thought of, ones that Tikki hid from her, for fear of her reaction.

But she reached out to Tikki instead, reassured her and encouraged her, which helped Tikki get her cravings under control.

With Chat Noir as well, Marinette believes that she understands him well. That she knows what he’s like, and what he’s NOT like - as can be seen in Ephemeral, with her reaction to his identity. But she only knows a few sides of him, and only what he’ll show her - and what she’s willing to see. It wouldn’t occur to her that Chat’s vulnerable as well, has issues of his own to overcome, has insecurities and things he’s hiding.

But at least Dearest Family provides some reassurance, shows how Marinette may react once she does realize that Chat’s more vulnerable than she thought. She reached out to Tikki, and she’d reach out to Chat as well.

i’m probably gonna regret asking this but. what would villain alya’s motivation even be??? there’s zero signs of her resenting marinette for anything, at least not to the point where she’d want revenge. the status quo-yo pretty much ensures there’s no chance of a big event like alya’s family getting killed in the crossfire that would typically make someone resent a hero. so why would she be evil? does she have some wish to make that she’d want to get the miraculous for herself? does she invite hawkmoth for an interview and after a long chat start to think he has some good points? it just doesn’t make any sense. alya wouldn’t even work for him when he threatened her family.

the only reason i could think of would be her discovering hawkmoth’s identity and helping him for adrien’s sake, which… still doesn’t make very much sense, considering she could just… tell marinette, who is way more invested in adrien than alya is anyway?

Alya is very obviously being prepped to be the new guardian. She is there the second Marinette loses her memory! Ready to cry and take charge even in that moment.

Now a amnesiac Marinette? I could see Gabriel taking her under his wing (with him knowing who she was) and grooming her and her joining him without realizing. I would HATE that, but it makes more sense.

Or sentimonster Adrien gets rewritten or mindcontrolled a bit so he can have his evil Endymion arc? I ALSO hate that, but it makes more sense narratively. (I probably like it better than an amnesiac Marinette gets manipulated though).

Luka!! He’s so passive and supportive so it seems unlikely to me, but his knowing who ladybug and chat noir both are could set him up to be a super compentent villain. And it makes no sense, but it makes MORE sense than ALYA!

I like to think about the post-Ladynoir fight

First, them awkwardly getting back to their old dynamic. They'll interact clumsily, afraid they'll say something wrong, afraid they'll do something wrong. Very shy banter, little glances to make sure the other is ok with the teasing, that they're not overstepping the other's boundaries. Sending each other tentative smiles, and inwardly raising a victorious fist as said smile is being reciprocated. It's slow, but they're making progress, and relearning to trust each other.

Then, them getting a little less shy, a little bolder with time. sending a praise to their partner then and there, when they did something good in battle, and praising the other back. Over-asking if what they're doing is okay, and "are you sure"s, "really tell me if that's ok with you"s, and getting used to this dynamic between them, both familiar and oh so new.

Slowly, they get more and more affectionate. Ladybug, particularly, shows Chat Noir how much he means to her at every given opportunity. A little cheek kiss there, a hand on the shoulder here, a wink sent his way then. And in return, he smiles at her, showing her how much he appreciates the gesture. Takes her hand, squeezes. Silently saying "I'm not going anywhere. Not anymore."

The more this goes on, the more they share what they can and need with each other. Every doubts they have, they bring it up. Every irritation they feel, they discuss. And every insecurity they get, they lift each other up.

And soon enough, they're back to being the powerful duo they were. It's the same, but it's also not. Because this time, they know with more certainty than ever that they have each other, that they'll always chose each other because they want each other, and they they'd never give up on each other ♥︎

But didn’t the episode, “Ladybug” kinda resolve the major themes of season three? Half the finale felt like filler to me? I have always felt that Ladybug should have been part one of the finale…

Like Marinette being upset about being expelled and Chat falling for the sentibug and just having a super frustrating day, and all of THAT leading to her forgetting to detransform on her way to Fu when she KNEW Hawkmoth and Mayura were already out and about?

But I’m not writing a fixit here. I’m just saying that there’s precedent for resolving plot lines and episode or two before the finale. But you could very well be right, anon.

I definitely don’t think everything will be resolved between Ladynoir in Kuro Neko, but it MIGHT be a first step towards reconciliation.

ladybug isn’t sure why chat noir didn’t show up to fight moolak, but she can guess. after all, she’s had trouble getting away from civilian duties too.

but then he’s late for the next one too. and the one after that. the next, he doesn’t show up until the akuma has been defeated. each time, he seems even more frazzled and stressed than the last, like it was getting harder and harder for him to get away from whatever he was doing as a civilian.

ladybug remembers breaking up with her boyfriend. she remembers kicking her friends out of her room. she remembers leaving her father in the middle of a UMS tournament and not getting back until he was in bed.

ladybug doesn’t want that for chat noir.

so she calls in the other heroes. they’re excited to help, but they’re a little nervous that chat noir isn’t here.

(she stops calling chat noir. she doesn’t want him to feel like he has to rush.)

“can we really fight without him?” polymouse asks.

ladybug reassures her that of course they can, as a team. they’re all heroes, just like her and chat noir.

she doesn’t think that the rest of paris will notice, but they do.

“he’s a partner, just like any other.” ladybug reassures the reporter that nothing has changed between her and chat noir, satisfied with her answer. she’s sure this will help the other heroes feel more confident, too, and their team can be even stronger.

she just hopes whatever is going on in chat noir’s life calms down soon, because she really misses his stupid jokes and his silly little bell.

Hi, yes, awful thought of the day, what if the cliffhanger is a situation which ends with Gabriel threatening to snap his fingers, and then he does and it fades to black, and we're left wondering about the sentimonster theory during the whole S4/S5 hiatus :')

alternatively he asks Adrien straight up if he is chat noir and adrien, who we k ow would never tell his dad of his own accord, answers with the truth and THATS how it ends.

he answers with the truth, alright.

he says, "not anymore."

Ya’ll are stressing me out with all these depressing cliffhangers!!

Can we just collectively decide (and manifest) that the cliffhanger is that Ladybug and Chat Noir drop their transformations (after defeating Hawkmoth) and they are just staring at each other and THEN it fades to black?? Like something that gives a girl some hope!!

(I’m actually generally totally here for the angst! I just HATE cliffhangers where I have to wait until July to get even the beginning of a resolution).

#i was going through my laptop and i remembered freaking about this when hack-san aired#i didn’t have a ladyblog back then so i lived on a high for a week by myself#it’s the same look! the same heart eyes! the same amount of softness! the look for her crush is the same look for her kitty!#i was just running on a week of my brain screaming SHE LOVES HIM SHE LOVES HIM SHE LOVES HIM#hack-san was truly the most heartbreaking episode of the season and it doesn’t get acknowledged nearly enough as such#you know the funny thing is that while this summer was the peak of the ‘omg alya is replacing chat’ drama in fact in optigami and#sentibubbler it was alya replaced marinette as marinette was trapped in both episodes and then in hack-san she replaced lb#ladybug was planning for a future in which alya takes over her duties but she never planned for anybody else to be chat noir#and on adrien’s side it’s so heartbreaking because all his life is people leaving him (alone). his mother (!!!) just disappeared one day.#so i think it’s very human to want adrien to be angry and confront ladybug we also need to keep in mind that he loves her so much#and not just as a crush. and ladybug’s replacement only reminded him of his mom and how he doesn’t even know ladybug’s face#i’m just happy that canon brought the beauty the tragedy of ladynoir the absolute trust in someone whose name you don’t even know#if something happens they WILL lose each other. we know that the red string of fate does its job but for a brief horrible moment they will#both be left in the dark not even knowing if the other’s alright#and maybe that’s something that needs to happen in canon especially on marinette’s side#maybe marinette needs to try to imagine who chat noir is and what his life is like and if he’s happy and healthy#she loves him but she needs to open up to their love. she needs to accept the love in her and the love from him.#she needs to realize that she loves 2 boys and then that by some stupid dumb luck the 2 boys are the same boy#and by even dumber luck that boy loves her back and is always willing to stand in front of her with his heart wide open#anyway

the fact that Ladybug wasn’t replacing Chat Noir with Alya but was actually replacing Herself in Optigami and Sentibubbler is such a good point bc this season really has been taunting Chat Noir with the idea of life without Ladybug again and again from the very start

1. it started subtly with the day she missed their patrol and he was left moping and patrolling on his own in Truth/Lies

2. then he was confronted with the fact that Ladybug would lose all their memories together and forget him entirely if she gave up the guardianship in Furious Fu

3. then he was presented with the terrifyingly familiar possibility of Ladybug simply giving up her mantle one day and disappearing from his life forever in Hack San

4. and finally, he’s grappling w/ the idea of Ladybug simply not needing/wanting him as a partner anymore - that maybe their partnership wasn’t as special to her as it was to him (which We know isn’t true)

It really feels like this is all leading up to something separating the two of them - maybe not a fight/fallout like many people seem to think it’s going to be, but something that’s gonna hurt

But if watching shoujo romance anime taught me anything, it’s that it’s always times like these, when the main couple seems like it’s being pulled apart and the heroine loses/is about to lose her boy, that she realizes/accepts her true feelings for him goes after him. With Marinette being as oblivious to feelings as she is, in denial about Chat Noir, and stubborn as a rock, it only makes sense that it’d take something dramatic to shake things up and make her confront her true feelings
