Right Behind You - Ch 9: The End of an Era
Chapter 9: The End of an Era
Nino thunked his head onto his desk in frustration. He needed to finish this remix, but he could barely even listen to what he had already done before his mind wandered and obsessed over when the next akuma alert would go off, or how Adrien was fairing at his morning photo shoot, and the music went in one ear and out the other without Nino really hearing it.
Which was a problem.
He sighed, cursing his past self who had stopped halfway through the baseline. He didn’t remember what his vision for the line had been. Or maybe he hadn’t had one. He had stopped in the middle of a measure. But he needed to get this done. This was the second to last song in this set, and while he could probably fake his way through an event with just the eight tracks that he had, he couldn’t release the remixed pieces for download without completing the album. And his music often served as the best advertisements for his events.
Without thinking, he swiped open his phone. He really shouldn’t have left it within reach, but he was already pulling up his text thread with Adrien.
Nino:
[10:46] You never played my remix on the piano! You still owe me.
Adrien:
[10:46] That bass line still giving you grief?
Nino:
[10:46] You have no idea. Please save me.
Adrien:
[10:46] You’re assuming that I don’t need to be saved first to come save you.
Nino:
[10:47] Just tell me where you are, and I will be there in five.
Nino was only half joking. He would have taken any excuse to do anything else right now, but Adrien didn’t respond again, which wasn’t a surprise. He had probably noticed the text during a wardrobe change.
Nino sighed, and turned back to the orange jagged sound wave that mocked him from his screen. He made himself press play, determined to actually listen to what he had, trying to identify the last note that seemed to fit.
Thirty seconds in he was interrupted by a knock at the door.
