Consciousness returned to Nino slowly. It was an ache in his lower back and the stiffness in his shoulders that woke him up completely. But for once, he suspected that his aches and pains weren’t the result of a lack of sleep, but rather that he had slept so deeply in the same position for too long. Even his eyes were crusty and dry.
A glance at the clock confirmed it was just before eight in the morning and he had slept almost eleven hours straight.
“Wayzz?” he called. “Do I have anything going on today?”
The room remained silent.
And a beat later, he remembered there wouldn’t be a response.
Wayzz was gone.
