i headcanon that gabe and emilie would want to create a sentibaby that's a mix of their own DNA--which, why can't they do that? Dusuu's got to use some sort of genetic material

but what if they wanted to test the possible combinations of their DNA before deciding on their perfect designer baby? what if you're adrien agreste model 1.0? it's a little weird when you come into the world, fully grown, and the first thing you're asked to do is turn around slowly on the spot. there's some lady in a mask and a peacock dress, smiling as you stand there, awaiting judgement. her counterpart, standing behind her, seems uncertain. but you don't think much of that. there's no time to think much of that--not when all of a sudden you're sitting at a desk, with pages of equations written on them. problems you're meant to solve.

somehow, you know you've learned this math somewhere--even if you don't remember when or how. but they keep watching you--scrutinizing every line of your pencil. you finally dare to ask them about it--because it's weird, right? and god, if they could just leave you alone for ten minutes, you could probably finish this easily. but your examiners' lips turn down at your outburst. and you're snapped away before you even manage to look back down at the page

what if you're adrien agreste model 13.6, and everything you do elicits little whoops of joy from the peacock lady? in your several hours of existence, you've spoken five different languages and carried out a slew of endurance, agility, and cognitive tests. and most importantly--although you don't know why your examiners seem to praise you for this--you never talked back once

the peacock lady claps her hands together, and even the man behind her--who you've come to realize isn't nearly as easy to crack--can't seem to stop smiling. and you don't understand why something about that fills you with dread, but it does. it's a sort of all-consuming, impossible to shake dread. but you smile through it anyways

you don't know that once you disappear, a smaller version of you will come forth into the world. or that, years later, you'll feel that same sort of sick feeling in your gut

you're adrien agreste model 13.7, and you don't know there's anything weird about the way you came into this world. you don't realize your mother sometimes misses 6.8's dimples, or that your father often wishes they'd gone with 11.2--who would have had a real head for business

and you never do figure out why something always feels just a little bit wrong

@wisteriasymphony hi WHAT hello you made it so much worse. i love it. AAAAH

Nino purposely making a plan to have everybody including Adrien dump food on Gabriel

Avatar

Nino was just WAITING for Gabriel to come out in public! Haha!

Carapace also has canonically hit Hawkmoth in the face with his shield.

Nino might be terrible at secrets but he seems to know who the villain is here. Haha!

(No Nino!!! Don’t let his makeover fool you! You had him pegged correctly the first time!)

Anonymous asked:

The weird thing about Adrien quitting modeling is that he makes it seem like his dad is a super unreasonable guy. But as soon as he asks his dad just goes “K whatever”. This also happens in Gorizilla when he has this whole perception of his dad and his dad would have shown him the movie if he asked. It just feels like the narrative muddles what kind of dad Gabriel is. His classmates act like Gabriel is Satan because he doesn’t ship Adrinette, or sometimes tells him to stay home. It kind of seems like that isn’t true though since Adrien leaves the house all the time as CN and never gets punished when he’s caught, maybe he’s just lying to his friends to spend time with Ladybug. Or when Adriens starts slipping in his activities his dad makes him stay home as a punishment, that’s a normal thing parents do. Marinettes parents also do that in one episode. Not to mention in Jubilation we see Adriens just lounging at home without modeling, what happened to spending time with your friends? I think the narrative needs to be clear on if Gabriel is actually a bad dad, or just the villain of the series.

Thing is, it's not just "Gabriel being strict" that's the issue. If that was all, then he might not be a great dad, but he wouldn't be an awful one.

It's not just that Gabriel's efforts interfere with Adrienette, or even that he sometimes wants Adrien to stay home. Those, in and of themselves, would be annoying, but not horrific.

But like... in Gorizilla, Adrien DID try to ask about seeing the movie. This was how the exchange went.

Adrien: Father, there's something I'd like to talk to you...about. Can I have a few minutes of your time? Gabriel: Yes, of course. Adrien: Really? Gabriel: I'll tell Nathalie to let you know as soon as I'm available. Adrien:(sighs) It'll be too late then. (Gabriel notices that Adrien is fidgeting with his ring.) Gabriel: Shouldn't you be practicing your piano? Adrien: Yes. (Adrien walks out of the room.)

Gabriel ignored Adrien for the most part, telling him to schedule later, and dismissing him by saying that he should be practicing piano instead. Adrien had that perception of Gabriel for a reason.

And yeah, sometimes Gabriel tells Adrien to stay home after slipping in one of his activities. That, in and of itself, isn't the worst thing, but it's how minor the slip-up was and how major the punishment, as well as his condescending attitude towards Adrien's friends, that was the issue.

(Adrien playing the piano. Adrien accidentally plays the wrong key) Gabriel: I've heard enough. Are you sure you're practicing, Adrien? Adrien: I'm just doing the same exercises over and over again. I think I could make better progress if I could just play with other musicians. After all, music's meant to be shared with other people, don't you think? Gabriel: We Agrestes are soloists. We're no mere group members. I suggest you rehearse your piece some more. You'll play it for me again later today. Adrien: But father, you promised that I could attend my friends' concert. Gabriel: Not after that performance you've just given, which is probably due to their influence! You need to refocus, Adrien. (Adrien calls Nino)

Gabriel cuts him off from seeing his friends - something he'd already agreed to - for a pretty minor mistake. And on top of that, he blamed them for being "bad influences".

Yeah, Adrien's managed to slip out of his room without being caught, most of the time. That doesn't mean Gabriel's okay with him leaving it though.

As for Gabriel not punishing Adrien on the few occasions when he IS caught... it is a little weird, I'll admit. But most of the time, I think he's happy enough just to have Adrien back (especially after something like Gorizilla) that I'm guessing that's why he forgoes punishment.

As for Adrien lounging around in Jubilation, I'm guessing that's a combination of Adrien being depressed (over what? take your pick) and Adrien likely not being allowed to just leave the house to do whatever, even if he has no other pressing commitments. Just because he doesn't have something else Gabriel wants him to do, doesn't mean he has permission to visit a friend.

It's also an issue that Gabriel is wildly inconsistent. Often he tailors what he does to what he thinks might get him a nice akuma. He shut down Nino trying to throw Adrien a party for that more than because he didn't like Nino (not much more though).

Adrien only seems to matter to him when it reflects on himself and his brand. Otherwise Gabriel generally ignores Adrien.

Plus the entire season one finale?

Not only does Gabriel have a digital copy of the book but he pulls Adrien from school. Giving every indication that this is meant to be a permanent punishment.

Then he goes out of his way to akumatize himself and tries to attack Adrien. Because Gabriel doesn't see traumatizing his son by trapping him in a book as important as making Adrien feel guilty for "getting his Father akumatized".

There's also the matter that when Adrien does well Gabriel can't be bothered to show up. Like when Adrien won a fencing competition and the only feedback he gets is that he's late. Which A) isn't something he could control and B) he heard from Nathalie because Gabriel was too busy with "more important things". Despite, y'know, literally being in the other room.

He also cancels time set aside for Adrien even though it's treated like an appointment and is only fifteen minutes of his time.

The only times Gabriel goes out of his way to show Adrien an iota of attention it's because he just endangered his son's life with an akuma.

And let's not forget Sandboy! Where Adrien's greatest fear is literally being locked in a cage. Wonder where that came from? *Stares in Gabriel keeps Adrien isolated from his peers*

Also, Gabriel didn't let Adrien stop modeling just because he asked. I was worried about this take when I first heard how it happened and am disappointed to be proven right. Anyway.

Gabriel appropriated his own son's image to capitalize off Adrien's public image and help him sell akuma rings to the populace. So either Gabriel is illegally profiting off his son's face or Gabriel

legally owns

Adrien's likeness.

Meaning that Adrien can't lend his voice to things like protesting the oxygen tower anymore.

Gabriel is actually incredibly well written. He is not inconsistent at all, at least in the way he is written. It is clear that the writers are familiar with how abusers usually behave.

Those periods of being “reasonable” or “affectionate” (like hugging Adrien after Style Queen) are actually an important piece in maintaining control in an abusive dynamic exactly BECAUSE it causes the victim to doubt they are being abused, causes them to doubt that it’s really that bad, and it gives hope that the abuser really does care and is capable of warmth and affection as long as the victim acts the way the abuser wants. Such unpredictable responses to requests and behavior also keep the victim in a state of anxiety - perpetually off balance and uncertain about the way the next interaction is going to go. This keeps the victim eager to please, and motivates the victim to try and do whatever the abuser wants.

If an abuser is only ever bad, violent and angry, the victim is harder to control. The reason being, no matter what they do it’s impossible to succeed so there’s no point in trying. In that situation, the victim usually shuts down and stops engaging. There’s no reason to do what the abuser wants because they always get abused.

When we’ve studied abusers, the vast majority are incredibly aware of what they are doing. And they will tell you that those periods of being reasonable or “loving” are incredibly important to maintaining control.

Gabriel is so well written and I hope that this allows actual victims of abuse who watch the show an opportunity to recognize they are in abusive situations, which is the first step in getting out.

Can’t wait for the moment in season five when all of the kwamis discover Hawkmoth’s civilian identity and after a long moment of awkward silence spent staring at Gabriel are like;

“Oh, wow.”

“Huh, would you look at that.”

“This…this makes a lot of sense, actually.

“Yeah, should’ve seen it coming in hindsight.”

“As all-powerful, ancient cosmic beings, this is embarrassing for us.”

“Shouldn’t he be on a yacht evading taxes or something?”

“I think he’s too busy emotionally neglecting his son for that.”

“Well, it looks like I owe Plagg ten euros and two decades of bragging rights when this mess sorts itself out.”

... That doesn't make any sense.

If Felix is a sentimonster like Gabriel Agreste is implying why can't he just order Felix to tell him where the other ring is? Since apparently Gabriel has HIS amok in that ring?

Also, what the heck!? Since when can anyone holding the amok snap a sentimonster out of existence!?

All of this makes me less inclined to believe Adrien is a sentimonster actually. Aunt Amilie may be sus but she's not "take away my nephew's free will" sus. If anything it makes me think Felix was designed as a perfect (physical) copy of Adrien. Chloe called him the "fake Adrien" which feels relevant.

(Oh, and if Adrien IS a sentimonster, at which point I will ignore Canon for the rest of EVER, and Felix still acted like that towards Adrien? The Graham de Vanilys can fucking choke on a cactus)

Did Gabriel have his amok though? There’s two rings. Felix has one. Gabriel has the other. I actually thought the threat was based on the fact that Gabriel has the peacock (and was CURRENTLY transformed so could just will a sentimonster out of existence), which wouldn’t make sense because supposedly Gabriel is trying to throw Felix off his identity. Felix seemed to know exactly what Gabriel was referring to though and was genuinely afraid. I agree that it didn’t make sense and that I’m confused. But it actually makes me believe that both Felix and Adrien are sentimonsters more now than before.

I do wonder why people keep looking at the rings we understand to be separately imbued with magical powers (at least in the family mythology sense) and keep demanding it proves other theories.

All it proves is that control and influence is built into the rings to some  unknown degree.

Right out of the proverbial supervillain gate, Gabriel was perfectly okay with using tools to control other people. Maybe it wasn’t the first time he was doing so.

Just for a moment, let’s ignore any of those Sentimonster theories out there and just focus exclusively on the rings.  We can assume they have obvious sentimental value, but there is clearly something more beneath the surface.

Looking back at the Felix episode, it does put an interesting spin on something Adrien’s Aunt mentioned when she first appeared.

Amelie: Aw, they look just like twins! Don’t they, Gabriel? Do you remember when they used to have so much fun pretending to be each other? Once they had you and Emilie fooled for a whole weekend! (laughs) We laughed so hard! (laughs again) Gabriel: (frowns; annoyed) I won’t be fooled a second time.

Notably earlier in that episode, Gabriel deliberately swapped out his ring with Emilie’s.  This whole move seemed very odd at the time, but we had no frame of reference to understand its meaning.  We later realize that Amelie had reached out and was demanding the rings.  That timing feels important here.

Then, Felix seems a little too interested in engaging with the matter considering this is his first line to Adrien:

Félix: You always do everything your father tells you to do? Adrien: He’s very… (smiles) protective of me. (Félix smiles, and then hugs him. His smile turns devious, and he steals Adrien’s cellphone.)

Felix is clearly versed on what the family’s twin rings are supposed to be able to do.

Félix: I’ve got a surprise for you, mom. (He reaches behind her ear and pulls out Gabriel’s ring.) Amelie: (gasps) But Gabriel refused to hand it over to me! And after everything that happened - (reaches out and cups his face) My little magician. I can never understand how you always manage to get what you want. (closes her hand over his) Keep it. It’s yours now. Félix: But… you wanted it so much. Amelie: Only to give it to you. You’ve always been so fascinated by them. How many times have you asked me to tell you the story of the Graham de Vanily twin rings, huh? (she kisses his forehead) I’m glad it’s back in the family where it truly belongs. (She winks at him and then rests her eyes. Félix smiles deviously out the window.)

Gabriel is really angry, but it is notable now that he has his initial ring back.

Scene: In the Agreste Basement.
(Gabriel takes Emilie’s ring off of her hand, and places it onto his. He balls his fist and growls in frustration as he leaves, angered by his nephew’s thievery.)

Going to pose a bit of a theory here of my own:

  1. Gabriel swaps his ring out with Emilie’s.  This is the one that usually has some control over Adrien.  He expects to have some much needed level of control over Felix (after Amelie’s contact he suspects the anniversary of Emelie’s passing as a likely time for a visit), but we don’t see him using his fidgeting at all before Felix lifts it.  Gabriel seems satisfied that his Akuma are enough to control the situation otherwise and thankfully (for him), his in-laws do not stay long.
  2. We know Gabriel has been using his ring to control Adrien, to influence his will when he fights back more.  Depending upon the powers, it might also have some ability to tamper with his memories.
  3. Felix is at a significant distance from both rings and clearly had far more freedom away from the stronger area of influence.  Adrien’s proximity is more of an issue for himself here, but he isn’t aware of the problem just yet.
  4. That whole weekend that Felix and Adrien had confused Gabriel and Emilie is looking awfully suspect now.  If one of the adults were sure they were attempting to put some sort of behavioral compulsion on Felix (who is clearly more mischievous now at least) but instead put it on Adrien, that probably would have been troubling…at least initially.  However, Gabriel clearly saw it as a tool and used it more recently as Adrien gets progressively more openly frustrated by the increasingly unreasonable demands.
  5. Maybe the other ring was set to control Felix.  If so, Felix merely stole back his own agency, something I think many of us would love to see for Adrien.
  6. Lastly, we now know Hawkmoth is clearly targeting Felix to some degree when he reappears during the Gabriel Agreste episode, because he wants that ring back.

So, is your theory that the twin rings each control/influence one in a set of twins?

Wouldn’t the rings also be able to influence, say, Emilie and Amelie then?

It seems odd that Emilie would allow them to be used as her wedding rings then, giving Gabriel control/influence over her and/or her sister…

My theory is that the rings are a more literal representation of control and influence.   I think that the set of rings were to be used in parallel to exert influence.  In concept, it probably was used on royalty and the peerage to claim and join that faction and then stay in power.

We definitely have gotten the implication that the Graham de Vanily family is old school money, but from some of the some of the Bourgeois-focused episodes, it is clear that this was more of a new thing for Gabriel himself.

I suspect (based purely on the quality of what Gabriel himself has produced, and I’m including Akuma designs here) that they might have even used this on Audrey Bourgeois herself to have his skills recognized and propelled into fame and acclaim.

However, I think it takes someone of the Graham de Vanily bloodline to activate said rings to a particular target.  They only get one target at a time, so those targets were locked to the last targets Emilie selected.

What’s more, this means that Adrien is the one who could absolutely use and break this power on his own, but only after he understands what it is and why and how it has been used against him for his father’s benefit.

I AM SURPRISED THAT NO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT THIS YET-

Something has been bugging me since Optigami, and then more in Sentibubbler. What is that? (Warning: This post is really disjointed, far-fetched and quite random.)

Wait-

One of the things I extremely love about Miraculous is the visual clues. EVERY SINGLE DESIGN ELEMENT HAS A REASON. After all, what else do you expect when they literally showed the grimoire and the peacock miraculous right in front of our eyes?

Anyway, back to this. Nathalie's room has been shown of more importance right from the New York Special and since Nathalie's health started deteriorating. And the whole design is, for some reason, Egyptian Themed. Especially these BLACK CATS at the entrance of her room (Literally no other room in the mansion has these statues at their entrances👀). And they look soo similar to:

In Ancient Egypt black cats were representations of goddess Bastet.

Now, This instantly reminds me of Season 1 Episode Pharaoh, since the titular Akuma was very much related to Egypt. Which leads me to the next part of this theory.

THE PHARAOH, THE WISH AND NEFRITITI.

The Pharaoh wanted to make a wish to bring back Nefrititi to life. And the wish required a "pure soul" in exchange for bringing back a life from the death. Sounds very familiar to a certain fashion designer who is losing his mind over wishing to bring back his wife from dead, Huh? Some snippets from the episode:

The Pharaoh: I'm going to carry out the secret spell, to bring Nefertiti back!
The Pharaoh: To persuade the sun god Ra to give me my sweet princess, I must give him something in return. A pure soul!
The Pharaoh: But I've already found her! You look so much like her!

Before going to the next part, I have a lot of stuff to unpack here. I am assuming that the "her" was Nefrititi. And the "you" here is actually Alya.

This was the scroll depicting the wish and the sacrifice. The person on the plank like thing is probably the "sacrifice". Well, guess what? I zoomed in and-

IS SHE - WEARING GLASSES????

Yup. Looks like it.

Now, applying the same lore to the Agreste mess, Who is the person we know, who wears glasses, and who is the most probable person who could potentially fall into a comatose state in exchange for dear Emilie IF the wish is made??

NATHALIE.

In short, the Egyptian decor in Nathalie's room could potentially foreshadow the consequences of the wish, when (if) it is made.

•~•~•~•~•

FUN FACT TIME!

• The title of Episode 22, Ephemeral, is spelled "EPHÉMÈRE" (Especially with the accents, as confirmed by Miraculous Mexico). And as everyone probably knows by now, "Mère" is French for "Mother". Puns, Huh?🤡

• Nathalie's name literally means,"Born without a heart".👀

The Five Minute Adventures of Snake Noir - Ch 9: Family

Chapter 9: Family

Even after Chat Noir had cried himself out, he didn’t move. He just sat there, wherever he was, and stared without focus into the distance.

He was already late to Marinette’s balcony. He knew that and still he couldn’t bring himself to his feet.

He wanted to see Nino and Marinette. And Alya, too. He did.

He needed to see them. They were all he had left.

He fought back the tears that threatened to return.

But everything was different now. And as soon as he told them, everything was going to change. And he was afraid. He didn’t know what was going to happen to him when they took down his father. Part of him wished they didn’t have to.

Would his friends see him differently now? Would they look at him with pity or disgust?

He choked back a sob.

“Chat Noir,” Sass interrupted his thoughts. “It is time.”

And Sass was the expert on time, wasn’t he?

Chat Noir dragged himself to his feet, and took off across the city, with Sass tangled in his hair. Once he was moving it was easy to keep going. He ran like there was an akuma after him even though he knew there wasn’t.

His father didn’t know that his son had discovered anything.

The Five Minute Adventures of Snake Noir: Ch 8 - Confrontation

Chapter 8: Confrontation

Adrien started at the sudden thud on his bedroom floor. He looked up. Ananta was breathing heavily and his expression was solemn. His best friend definitely didn’t look like he was just there to continue his day of goofing off and having a ridiculous time.

“What’s wrong?” Adrien asked.

“Your old man is a serious piece of work!”

“Did you punch him?” Adrien asked.

Nino threw his hands up. “No! And I definitely should have! I have serious regrets! He fucking shattered my knee cap and tried to take the snake!“

Adrien dropped his stylus, and turned his full attention towards his guest. “Umm… maybe you should start from the beginning.”

Mega Leech - A prelude to the seeds of the rebellion? (The father vs the son)

Okay, so, before I start, I know a lot of fans are very passionate about this scene, but I want to inform you this is neutral territory. And therefore, I am asking you to leave behind any theories you might have before reading this post.

My analysis is not there to prove or refute any theories. The reason why I am analysing any ML scene to begin with is because the cinematography behind it striked me. So my focus will only be on the shots themselves and how they make me feel as a viewer.

Are we good? Good. Let’s proceed.

First, let us remind ourselves of the context. Mega Leech is loaded with real life issues such as police-state (how the mayor abused of the police officer to shut down any protestor and later litteraly become a dictator so everyone does as he says without any opposition) and how the political class can favor companies and their profit over the common good and do so behind people’s back. Basically, the episode teaches the viewers to pay attention to the projects their political and rich elites try to sell them. To look past the pretty images and doublespeak use to promote a project and use their civic right to protest and make noise to counter censorship and raise awareness.

During the episode, Mylène and Ivan inform their classmates about the unsustainability of the Mayor’s new environmental project sponsored by two companies : the Gabriel’s brand and the Tsurugi’s company. Adrien – whose image is used in the add to promote the project – discovers that he had been mislead. And later, he takes a stand and protest with his friends against the project. Stand that his father of course learns about.

However, it is only during the final scene, when Adrien gets home, that Adrien faces the consequences of taking position and being openly public about it.
