Due to all the DC found family (mostly Batfam or just set in Gotham) fanfiction I've read, I can never unsee them as the dimension filled with people with Adoption problems

It's not just Bruce, it's EVERYONE. B just has it the worst (even in Gotham which should be renamed emotional/Legal/non-legal adoption capital)

some of the habits different robins didnt realize came from Dick:

-Jason has kept the same stretching routine this whole time, even Dick has changed his, but Jason does the one that dick used to do in preparation for his circus act.

-When Tim taps his feet while writing out a report, he always taps out the same rhythm, the same one Dick used to do when he had to sit for long periods of time.

-Everytime Steph ties up her hair she uses a blue hair tie, they were the only ones around in the batcave when she needed one and then it became tradition for her. Dick used blue ones when he had longer hair because its his favorite color.

-Damian always rolls his right shoulder when hes standing around, he doesn't know why he does it or even notices that he does it. Dick injured his right shoulder years ago and it always needs to be stretched out or it gets stiff.

I need to see Tim meet a kid who’s mentor “died” but they don’t believe it.

I need Tim to see this kid who’s just begging Tim to give him a chance to explain his reasoning, begging Tim to be the first person to look at the evidence he’s brought logically.

I need to see Tim say “I believe you, I’ll help you” to him. I need to see the adventure they go on to bring that mentor back, I need to see Tim make sure another kid doesn’t go through what he did.

i need to see that kid healing from what other people said to him while Tim heals from what those people used to say about him

Tim probably still has a sketchy reputation but that doesn’t stop people from going to him for help. A certain kind of people that is. Desperate people. People turn to Red Robin when they’ve run out of options and no one else believes them so maybe the vigilante who went crazy for a bit might. They’re desperate for somebody, anybody to believe them.

And Tim does believe in them.

He was crazy, but he was right.

And rumours of this filter through, in quiet whispers of mentor to student and little groups talking at night, in conversations on boring stake outs and after they start to think you're going mad.

"If they're not careful, they'll end up like Red Robin."

"But he was right, wasn't he?"

"Oh sure but he was never the same. I swear I can still see the madness behind that domino. "

And through the quiet admittance of the guilty, who never want to admit they were wrong, but have to see the truth each time they face Batman in a meeting.

"Red Robin- he was mad, he was crazy, he was insane, but really... he was right. You ever have an issue you can't surpass, a problem you can't out puzzle, a mystery you can't solve, you have a theory that sounds insane- ans might well be? Something everyone thinks you're mad for- even yourself? You go to Red. Always Red- the Detective Robin. He's insane. But he's almost always right.

"I haven't heard of him being wrong yet- never a tale of him finally losing it that isn't disproven sooner or later, with the evidence in a nicely organised file, often with a 'fuck you' or "i told you so' on a post-it; but it's always deserved- because he's always proven right, in the end."

'Red robin- the mad bat that was right."

I can actually see this happening though, red robin eventually becomes a sort of last resort, he’s the one you turn to when your desperate, when no one believes you.

I see him taking in those children because he doesn’t want them to suffer through it silently and alone like him, he doesnt want to see them drift away from the community like he did, he doesnt want them to feel the sense of abandonment he felt.

Then I see him becoming a sort of role model to them, because he was the only one who believed them, the only one who didn’t think they went mad, the only one who looked at them and told them he understands and that he’d help them.

He becomes the most trusted vigilante after that, the kids stop turning to their mentors when they need help and start turning to tim, because they know he’ll help them without a second thought. Without questioning them because he trusts them and no ones ever done that before.

He becomes their hero their role model.

He breaks down the first time he hears a kid tell him they want to be just like him, because hes never been told his efforts are appreciated, just always looked at like he’s mad, or a look of resignation because he was right.

but now?

these kids look at him with adoration like he hung the stars in the sky

the same way he used to look at the robins before him

and its not just kids, its also other vigilantes close to his age, everyone older than him may scoff at him and his theories and call him mad

but they?

they look up to him

And he feels fulfilled.

he feels loved.

Wayne and Al Ghul family interaction that DC **thinks** I want: fight until the dead; something something bullshit; something something evil arab propaganda

Wayne and Al Ghul family interaction I **really** want:

Damian decided to sell some of his paintings to help the orphanage in Gotham, Tim and Barbara voluntarily themselves to help him organize the event and all the other siblings went together into the process.

Now, on the big night, Bruce is ready to buy everything! Damian was never open about his paint and finally Bruce was an excuse to put it in the manor wall.

The problem? Damian also invited his mother, Talia, personally and sent an invitation to Ra's. And now those three "functional" adults are fighting to buy the boy art.

Tim: We should evacuate the place, these three together in the same room is not a good idea

Dick: I bet at the end of the night Bruce and Ra's will take off their shirts and start a sword fight, they do this every time they see each other

Jason: 20 bucks that they did this on the roof

the orphanage raised enough funds that night and Talia was able to buy most of Damian's paintings. "As your mother, I support you in your artistic field"

Also Duke won the bet because they fought in the parking lot

bonus: Selina and Damian

Selina: this one is what I found most beautiful

Damian: I appreciate the compliment, I just ask you to wait for my father to buy it, so the money goes to the orphanage and you are free to steal his painting later

I’m like 99% sure the Gotham Elite’s social customs are fucked up because Autism-in-Human-Form Bruce Wayne was just so fucking tired of high society’s weird and incomprehensible (and frankly ableist) social etiquette that he went full Virgin Mary About-to-Invent-a-Major-World-Religion, said “oh haven’t you heard?” and just started making his own random social rules. Like who’s going to stop him? The other elites? The dinosaur CEO’s? He’s richer. He hosts the better parties. He could tank your business in a weekend. So when he says “Weird passive aggressive fork language is out. Having a different utensil for every different food texture is in,” you use a different utensil for every food texture. Now when foreign elites visit Gotham, they have to learn a completely new set of social customs to fit in. It’s like a cult, but the cult is run by the most influential man in the world and Gotham’s personal Jesus. The followers are more likely than not mafia bosses named after a bird. You will be judged. There’s a test. Yes, you do get brownie points for being nice to the servers. For the love of god, stop making so much eye contact. The cloth napkins are folded into little ducks. Welcome to Gotham.

If feel like a big thing people get into when writing Jason Todd is that he's mad the Joker is still alive and mad he's been replaced. Which is fair as those are a huge part of what drives him earlier in his post resurrection days. But what they also tend to do when writing him is explain away both things then act as if his whole argument easily falls apart with context.

You see a lot of fics go "no batman didn't immediately replace you, Tim fought him for that, he didn't actually want another Robin" and "Batman was going to kill joker but batman can't kill, he still cares about you" and then Jason starts doubting his reasoning or whatever but like I feel like that wasn't the main point???

Was Jason mad he was replaced? Abso-fucking-lutley. Was Jason mad that the Joker was still alive? Yes fucking furious. But that never felt like the main point to me. To me it was the fact that, especially from the outside, his death changed nothing.

He looks back into what's happening in Gotham and sees not only that there's a new Robin but that the Joker had gotten out again. The newspaper headline he sees could quite literally be one from his Robin days because that's how little things have changed. Not only is there another child running around in the same outfit fighting crime but he's literally fighting the same exact man that got him killed.

Not only is the joker not dead but he's still escaping fairly regularly. The security wasn't even beefed up after his death.

And that means his death meant nothing.

His death didn't better the world, his death didn't even change anything. Nothing better came from him dying, there was no greater cause. He simply died.
