I’m gonna breakdown over this scene from 7x10 now hope y’all don’t mind:

HAILEY WAS SO READY TO TELL HIM THEY STILL WERE LOOKING AT EACH OTHER LIKE THAT EVEN WHILE THE PHONE WAS RINGING THEY WERE SO CLOSE 😭😩 ⬆️

I also never noticed how Hailey still looked at him with the littlest bit of hope in her eyes like “maybe he won’t answer it, maybe this moment can still be ours” 🥺 (but then Jay ruined it by turning away to get his UC phone) ⬆️ I’m still bitter ok

I mean look at her face. Her regret and changing of her mind is written all over her face. She knew he was still so wrapped up in these other people that he wouldn’t be ready — or perhaps maybe even couldn’t be able to hear — to hear what she had to say. And while she’s obviously sad about it, or probably like beating herself up for chickening out or mustering up all this courage after that talk with Vanessa, Hailey didn’t let it show. Nope, she just flipped the switch back on, and her emotions got swept under the rug or put back in that little lockbox in her heart. And I’m sad for her because of that. They were so close. Almost. ALMOST. ⬆️

No wonder she looked at him kinda like 🤨😟😕 & was like “What’re you doing?” Because she couldn’t believe he was gonna answer Bobby’s (Angela’s son) call. And of course Jay’s a little dumbfounded and doesn’t know exactly what to do/say yet, so he attempts to explain. ⬆️

Hailey makes a good point though, that he “just caught a bullet for this” so he needs to “let this one go.” (Sound familiar? She told him an almost exact same statement at the beginning of 7x09, before he was shot, before he was kidnapped, etc. - no wonder it’s so important to hear that he clearly and REALLY understands her this time. Hell, maybe that’s why Jay actually listened.) ⬆️

Ugh. Jay’s hopeful “what were you gonna say?” And Hailey’s solemn “nevermind” will always just kill me because they were like two paths that almost crossed, but didn’t. Or two lines that almost intersected you know. Almost was never enough for them in this specific scenario. Which sucks for them (& for the fandom.) ⬆️ But, at least Jay seemed to realize that whatever Hailey was going to tell him, it was important, because he still asked her about it after said phone call interruption, so he didn’t just forget about it. But still, Hailey wasn’t feeling it anymore, so that sparked moment kinda fizzled out I guess (if that makes sense.) - the moment was lost.
