Jesse Lee Soffer manages to go from living meme to most adorable human in 2.5 seconds I don’t understand how he does this ALL THE TIME 

may i present to you: my favorite dork, jesse lee soffer. 

hey hi hello, allow me to rant for a minute about this boy above aka: mr. jay halstead who is hopelessly in love with his partner hailey anne upton okay? thanks. course, before i get into that, can we please have a moment for jesse’s mini-glo-up from s5->s7 please? *pause* okay great carry on below: 

the first thing i’d like to point out is that two freaking years later, he is still looking at her like that. it’s not even so much the sadness that gets me, but it’s that he cares so much about her that it kills him to let her down/not listen/not be able to help her when she needs it most. 

in the stills above, the first one from 5x18 signals the former, that he went behind her back to rafferty and got her file about what happened at that new years eve party. but it’s more than that, as that’s the face he left her with after she told him that booth didn’t actually assault her. it’s a mixture of anger, but also that twinge of sadness because he can’t do anything to protect her then, and she wouldn’t listen to him at that point in the episode because she insisted that “she’s fine.” so then he couldn’t help her at that point either. 🥺

the second one from 7x10 signals the latter, where he almost didn’t listen to her again (the first being in 709 when she told him to walk away from angela and he didn’t -- which almost cost him his life) – and he’s looking at her like, ‘damn, what am i doing? i can’t do this not only to myself but to her again, can i?’ so he does thankfully put the phone down in that scene and fucking listens to his work wifey (god bless u jay halstead you’re such a good work hubby). 😁

but in all seriousness, like this is part of the building block of upstead’s relationship. like at its core, jay cares for hailey, and he just wants to help her. but he also knows that he can’t help her if he doesn’t help himself...like she makes him want to be better, you know? just like he got help (therapy) when she pushed him to because he wanted to be a better partner for her. 

just wanted to get all that out there. upstead for the win, forever & ever (amen –haha, sorry, couldn’t resist...kinda sounded like a prayer circle didn’t it? 😅)
