[no but in all seriousness this end scene in 5x18 is my favorite — which is weird to say about a sad scene — because it’s so powerful with just their intense eye contact. bravo to jesse & tracy on this scene honestly because they killed it. you can feel the rawness of it, like how vulnerable hailey is there, & yet still see that obvious comfort jay is trying to be or give. ugh i just can’t say enough about it. one of their best scenes EVER]

Poor Hailey🥺 when Jay wondered how she went through this growing up & she told him more of her past. I mean I’m glad it was easy for her to open up to him, but I’m sad for her that it seemed to easy for her to talk about. Ugh. I’m just so sad for little bby Hailey. And I’m sure Jay was too, I mean do you see his face? It’s written all over his expression. ⬆️ ps: I know he didn’t directly say sorry for how he talked to her in 6x02, but I think that this scene shows their progress in that he can nicely give her the space to open up if she needs to and she can accept it or not, it’s all up to her. And I think they’ve grown since then, evolved if you will. Plus I’m just glad we finally got a “thing that works between them” scene in season 7 because we desperately needed one!!
And idk what people say I think Jay’s kinda like Hailey’s knight in shining armor (at least who she wishes could’ve been way back then y’know?) because like she said he did a good thing and she wished someone would’ve put her dad in his place — do what Jay did. ⬆️

HAILEY I’D FOLLOW YOU ANYWHERE ⬆️ hallelujah we finally have jay’s official response to what hailey told him in 6x15 I AM IN MY FEELINGS😭❤️ I mean the fact that they used the same dialogue means that 1) the writers pay attention and 2) Jay was listening to Hailey way back then w/how much that phrase meant / how much power it held (still holds.)
The way he looks at her so gently like 🥺 goddddd he cares so much about her & hates to see her hurting ⬆️ I love one supportive partner
If you hear that, that’s the sound of my heart breaking over these two and their looks at each other in this moment ⬆️ because Jay felt so helpless, like he tried to say the right thing but he knew Hailey wasn’t going to magically be okay again; meanwhile Hailey knew he was trying to help but she couldn’t deal w/all these intense emotions about the ordeal and GOD THEY ARE BOTH SO SAD FOR EACH OTHER / ABOUT EACH OTHER IN THIS EPISODE (just like the previous one — 7x06 I mean, when you had a worried Hailey about Jay) I love how much they show they care about each other in the tiniest of ways. That’s real love they got there. ❤️❤️

Oh heck here comes the Upstead finale scene from 6x22 I am emotional:
The one time Jay Halstead did not actually make eye contact with Hailey Upton ⬆️ that didn’t stop her eyes from watching him the whole way though - we love a worried work wife yes we do 👀🥺
Jay’s voice break when he said “we lost” 😭 like the “we” meant more than just the team vs. Kelton, it meant he and Hailey lost their chance to be partners ⬆️ and also just wanted to say Tracy is so pretty here (even when worried and realizing Jay’s words as Hailey Upton)
“Not in time for this unit...for us.” There’s that second “us” I mentioned a couple posts ago — the us is so important I think because it encompasses Jay & Hailey - aka: the Upstead partnership-veering-into-relationship. ⬆️ Ugh. And Hailey’s sad smile she knew he meant more than that too dammit
PLS JAY’S LITTLE SMILE AS HE SAID HER NAME SO SOFTLY 😣 “Hailey...” like he couldn’t believe that she’d say that [he’d] forget about [her] just fine. Because he can’t. He couldn’t forget her, even if they only have “been partners for a couple years.” ⬆️ and even though hailey was trying to be strong, she knew that she wouldn’t forget jay either because jay had become such an integral part of her LIFE.
Then they both got serious again when they realized the gravity of the words they had said. Hailey said “we’ll be alright” but they both didn’t know what the hell was gonna happen if Kelton disbanded intelligence. ⬆️ but they knew that they’d always be in each other’s lives...but god would it kill them to be torn apart, y’know? Cause they had been through a hell of a lot not only in that episode, but in s6. They had just established that they’re good, and they’d ALWAYS be good...now they may not be good together (dammit Kelton😠!!!!!) - Ugh my Upstead heart can’t handle their looks at each other in this scene I’m crying bye

Idk. ⬆️ They don’t fucking know either cause for once their eyes didn’t help them as much as hinder them. If they had actually talked to each other or said wait / hold on / don’t go yet etc. then maybe things would’ve been different. Course then we wouldn’t be where we are now so 🤷♀️ slow burn at it’s (most annoying) finest everybody 👏👏🍻👀
Hailey did not look thrilled to be leaving lemme just say that. She looked like 😕 I mean I don’t blame her I’m sure she wasn’t really expecting jay to just...let her go like that. Maybe she was, but even so, I’d think she would’ve expected him to say or do SOMETHING ELSE ANYTHING ELSE before she finally left. ⬆️

Oooooof. This hurt me. Those photos are intense & heartbreaking. Then Jay’s “What the hell happened?” You could hear it in his voice that he sort of knew, but he needed to hear it from Hailey. He owed her that much, you know? 🥺 and don’t even get me started on Hailey’s look to him. GOD SHE FELT SO BETRAYED AND HURT AND WAS IN DISBELIEF. 😖 Tracy deserves an Emmy for that look alone, okay?! ⬆️

But in all seriousness, what was so important about this scene (IMO) was that even though Hailey couldn’t look Jay in the eye as she told him about NYE, she told him. She opened up to him, she let him in so he could help her. Just like he let her in to help him in 5x10. I also always loved that the writers used some of the same dialogue too ⬆️
JAYS SAD FACE. even after patted his shoulder(? chest? - idk we didn’t see it onscreen but she had moved forward after telling him she was fine, and that’s why he was looking down partially.) ⬆️ but he was also looking down because he was ☹️ SO SAD FOR HER. aaaaaand he prolly wanted to kill Booth. I mean his voice when he asked her “Did he?” was a dead giveaway. ⬆️
