I don’t really have time to make a whole post about this rn, but I’m just putting the idea out there in case anyone is interested. I love this story so much and I really want people to be able to hear it in the legal way that benefits big finish 💗
Owen Harper is Bisexual
Owen Harper is Bisexual
I will never get over the fact how bisexual he was in Combat. The whole epsiode was so full of sexual enegery that even RTD said (if i remeber that correctly)that that was the gayest shit he ever has seen.
Hey, do you really think Owen is bi? The only m/m we saw was in season one, epsiode one. I was never sure if he is really attracted to men, or if it was more kind of: If it saves the situation i am also okay to make out with men, but i am not attracted to them"
*sighs a heavy sigh*
Short answer: Yes, I’m completely convinced. Burn Gorman specifically said on the Combat commentary that there was sexual tension between Owen and Mark, but he only found that out when they filmed the scene in Mark’s flat where Mark takes his shirt off. This explains why there’s more sexual tension between them in some scenes than others. Russell T Davies said that scene is one of the gayest things he’s ever witnessed. I’d give you the verbatim quote but I don’t have the DVD with me right now, as I’m at college.
Long answer: this entire post I made about how Owen’s personality and character arc partially revolves around his feelings on his sexuality.
This is a serious and important subject to me in the Torchwood fandom, so I will be covering it even more so in my videos I (eventually) make about bi representation in Torchwood and Owen’s character.
ah thank you! Didn’t knew that. I am really new to the fandom, But when i watched “Combat” back then i really thought they would make out xD
It didn’t happend and i was 60% convinced that i just misinterpreted that scene. Glad to know i didn’t because that scene was really gay! I would really love to watch your video... can you tag me?
Hey, i just read that oyu think it will be Owen who will be back. Why? :)
Hey!
Yes I do! (and I’m willing to bet money on it)
I don’t actually have that many solid reasons or “proof”, I guess? I just think that Owen is the most logical choice.
First of all - he is the only one of team Torchwood that supposedly has died, but we’ve never seen his dead body. He never got a funeral (like Tosh and Ianto) and wasn’t put into the morgue in the hub (like Suzie). The only thing we know, is that his comm unit stopped working when the chamber at the reactor was flooded - so of course everyone thought he died (how couldn’t he, right?)
BUT - who knows how his (already dead!) body would react to that? What if there was some way out of the chamber after all? What if what happened to Owen changed him but didn’t really kill him? (and that’s why he’s only coming back now?) What if that force that was in him in ‘Dead Man Walking’ came back somehow and ‘saved’ him? There are lots of unanswered questions here!
(Additionally, there is some theory that has to do with him being King of the Weevils that I’ve been told about, but I don’t really recall it atm.)
And last of all - who else would it be?
It’s not Bilis Manger (that theory has been going around) because he never died in the series and it was confirmed by Scott Handcock that it’s not him.
Toshiko can be ruled out as well - one of the reasons being what I said above: we really DID see her die and her dead body, and she did get a funeral. Another reason is that after the audio drama in the third series of the Big Finish Torchwood range with her came out (Cascade) it was rumoured again, if that meant that at least ‘her mind’ survived (or something like that, I actually haven’t listen to that audio yet, so idk exactly what happens in it), but again, Scott Handcock confirmed that Tosh is definitely dead.
Ianto - well, i know a lot of fans (including me) wish that Ianto would be the one coming back, but from a logical perspective I don’t think he will. Again, as I said above, we really did see him die and his dead body. He even ‘died’ again in House of the Dead. And seeing that Ianto was already brought back to life once, I don’t think they will do that again.
[And Ianto is still there in spirit! Especially in episodes 1 (Changes Everything) and 3 (Orr) his spirit is very present. It is constantly hinted and talked about Ianto and what happened in CoE, and how much Jack still missed and loves him. I also don’t think they will ‘bring him back’ by just letting Orr change into him, that would do neither character justice and Jack already told them that he doesn’t want them to change into Ianto.]
Suzie - I think she’s the most unlikely character to come back. She already came back to life once (yeah, yeah, so did Owen, but that’s different! And it was a different clove and different consequences!) and she was actually really, really dead in the end. And she was placed in the morgue at the Hub. Now, I don’t know how badly the hub was actually damaged (seeing that they are using it again now), but I’m still assuming that the morgue didn’t survive.(it was never mention in the audios/novels that I know, but I think there’s at least one or two novels out there where they talk about the damage of the hub and that it was pretty bad). So that would rule Suzie out as well.
And other than that - what other characters are there that “just had to be dead”? I’m assuming that it’s not just some side character that was only in one episode. And the way they teased the return of that character, it sounds like it’s someone they know the fandom loves.
(there is of course the possibilty that it’s someone from MD, it was talked about it possibly being Rex [since he should have died in MD but didn’t], but since neither Rex or MD were mentioned so far [except that Gwen’s dad is still dead] [and Rex or his “immortality” isn’t even really talked about in the novels, as far as I have been told], I don’t think that it will be a character from MD)
(ok, maybe some of these reasons are actually kinda solid, but you never know haha) (this got kinda long whoops)
So that concludes: Yes, I’m 99.9% sure that Owen will be the one who comes back in Aliens Among Us, AND I’M REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.
Edit - here are some links where both @javic-piotr-thane and I talked about this before:
(And @javic-piotr-thane answer to that question: https://javic-piotr-thane.tumblr.com/post/164629456741/hey-what-do-you-think-who-will-be-back-from#notes )
So @teaboyofficeboy i finally have time for a longer answer. I would love if @javic-piotr-thane would read it as well, because i still ahve some question for you both ;)
Like i allready said, i just finished season 2 so if i get something wrong please tell me :)
First at all: Owen.
I think most of your arguments make a lot sense. Also the sentence “ someone who is supposed to be dead” seems to be about him. BUT if we take a look at the description for 5.5 it says: (…), especially when it turns out that he (Jack) hasn’t come back alone.”
For me this sentence sounds like Jack is dead and while he is dead he meets someone. And in the moment Jack comes back to life he grabs this someone and they come back to life together (or something like this. IDK, do they finally know what happens after death?)
If it would be Owen he wouldn’t be really dead. So Jack could not meet him while being dead.
For me it sounds like jack brings someone back who was really dead!
Second: Did they allready talk about Owen in the new audio play? because we all know that writers love to tease the come back of an old character. (Remeber Rose in 4x01)
Talking about him would also remind teh casual listener who doesn’t read any fan theories of Owen. And they would start thinking about him like: “Maybe he is the one who will come back?” or “Yeah, Owen. Gosh, i want to see/hear him again.”
Or did they mentioned a dark creature running around with the weevil, but not looking like the weevil? Because also like that they would make the listener questioning who that could be.
Second: Ianto
I allready read here on tumblr that Jack talked about Ianto. I don’t know the context BUT i think this is really interesting. There are multiple question.
A) why do they talk about him at the beginning of the season? It would be a lot more emotional if they don’t metion him in the first part. Everyone would wonder if Jack is finally over his death, and after two month they would listen to the second part and then Jack would talk about Ianto. That would be more emotional.
So why was it necessary to remind the listener that Jack still loves Ianto. Of course to make the listener suffer and we all know that TOrchwood allways mentions dead people for a very long time. Lisa, f.e. Ianto talked about her really often.
I don’t know, maybe it is wishful thinking but for me it feels like they try to remind us of Jacks feelings for Ianto for a reason.
Like: They telling us that Jack still has feelings –> fandom suffers –> fandom” but he will never come back… or will he?” —> two months later —> ianto is back!
What do you think about that?
Like i said Owen makes much more sense but i have the feeling that Ianto would also be possible
I’m still not sold on the Ianto theories (I just really, REALLY don’t want to be disappointed), but about Owen (and Suzie)…. well. *cracks TWEU knuckles* First of all, Suzie [see the novel Long Time Dead] did NOT die in the Hub explosion, but later on got trapped in a different universe, so.. yeah she’s definitely ruled out XD Secondly, the bit about something ‘coming back with Jack’…. there’s actually been more than one instance of such a thing happening. And both were at least indirectly related to Owen. One in Dead Man Walking (obviously), where Death himself took a piggyback ride on Owen to come to Earth. And second, in the novel Skypoint, Owen meets a little girl who was clinically dead for a few minutes before paramedics revived her - and she brought a creature back with herself that ate people. So basically, I think that whatever 'came back with’ Jack was not a person (I mean, they did say someTHING not someONE) but rather a malevolent/hungry creature. [Possibly that 'guy’ (as if that’s a normal person) he’s hooking up with in the trailer??? I wouldn’t put it past Torchwood to make a (however many years delayed) 'eating meat’ pun out of it 🙄😆😆] But it still could be Owen helping him deal with it!!!! Or he could in ~~some way be related to the plague thing that was mentioned….. yk what?? This is getting p long. I’ll make a separat post about the plague.
Nah, i don’t think it will be Suzie. I am not so sure, but she wasn’t that popular, right?
If Toshiko and Ianto are not likely to come back and we have to choose between owen and Suzie, it will be Owen. But like is a said to @teaboyofficeboy I would love to see Owen as the king of death. Then he brings back Toshiko and Ianto, and everyone is happy
Hey, i just read that oyu think it will be Owen who will be back. Why? :)

(First of all – the reply CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS FOR AAU!!)
(not really an additon to the previous answer from @javic-piotr-thane because i havent read those novels yet, here’s my take to your questions @kajaono!)
About Owen and ep5 – your theory does make sense and of course can’t be rules out completely, but I’m wondering how Jack would bring someone back from the dead, if he only meet them in the “afterlife” and not actually in some sort of physical way?? Of course he could also have sort of a vision, but I don’t think that would do “bringing back a dead character” justice.
@javic-piotr-thane and I have been talking about this quite a bit and came up with another theory about “Jack not coming back alone” (that sounds more plausible in my eyes). In AAU, Gwen isn’t really herself, but instead seemingly possessed by an alien or that alien (Ng) has taken over her body. Ng says to Gwen’s mum in ep2, that she can still sometimes hear “Her dead daughters voice”. You can hear Gwen as well, she is still there in her mind, but she seems to not have any control over her body etc. That same thing could be happening to Jack in ep5. After all the circumstances of his death are mysterious. Another alien like Ng could have taken over his body (much like with Gwen) when Jack was (seemingly) dead. That would mean that Jack doesn’t come back alone from the dead.
Owen also hasn’t been mentioned yet
(and neither was Ianto’s name specifically – it is mentioned that coffee is terrible and that Jack banned coffee from the hub, stuff like that. In ep3 Orr is introduced, who is a shapeshifting alien who can change into the person you most desire. Throughout the whole episode Jack tries to think about lots of different people, so that Orr can’t focus on one to change into. They do sense that Jack is hiding a person, “young and handsome, that he lost a long time ago” and in the end listen to Jack, when he tells them that he doesn’t want them to change into that person. This isn’t about reminding the listeners that Jack still loves Ianto and that he was a character that existed.)
I don’t think bringing back Owen in ep5 would make sense from a story telling point of view. The series is 12 episodes long, so bringing back that character in the first half of the series would kind of kill the suspense. It would make a lot more sense to either bring them back at the end of ep8 as sort of a cliffhanger or in the last part. And I don’t think that they want to make it too obvious for us, which character they will bring back. Purposely only mentioning Owen now would really take away the surprise I guess.
And of course you have to remember that there are different people working for the Big Finish Torchwood productions than there were for the tv series. Yes, sure, RTD has influenced AAU quite a bit, but he isn’t the main writer, more of an advisor in a way. So I wouldn’t necessarily compare this to season 4 of Doctor Who, especially since bringing back Rose like that had other story telling purposes.
And I mentioned House of the Dead already, which you obv don’t know yet. Ianto is brought back as sort of a mixture between a ghost and a memory. He would have to be definitely dead to appear like that for Jack. So we can rule pretty much rule out Ianto just from that. (I mean, of course, I want him to be alive and well, but I don’t think there is a way in canon for that to happen anymore)
(I’m really sorry for possibly bursting a bubble of hope here concerning Ianto, but I’m personally so excited for that character to come back from the dead, even though it won’t be Ianto and especially if it will really be Owen!)
And tbh, a lot of this will probably make a lot more sense once you’ve watched all of Torchwood and listened to a few of the audios and read some of the novels. Especially theorizing about who comes back in Aliens Among Us will make more sense when you actually listened to the first part AAU – which I can only recommend!!!
(and of course these are all theories, who knows if I’m actually right here :D)
and this got long again, whoops. I’m just really passionate about this :)))
NO, i like your answers :D That is really interesting. But i also think we have to wait till next year to find who it will be so...
We should rest... but i know we won’t do that.
Question: Did you saw the quote that RTD actually wrote something for the show?! That in the end there will be a moment or a speech that will be really beautiful? I am really interest what kind of speech it will be :)
Btw: What i would like to see: owen comes back as the king of death and then he brings back Ianto and Toshiko. That’s an ending i want! :D
Hey, i just read that oyu think it will be Owen who will be back. Why? :)

Thank you for your answer. Actually i just understand 50% because i just finished watching season 2, but i think i get your point :D
BUt i am really glad that they remever Ianto. I hate it when characters die and they never talk about them…
Like i allready said to @javic-piotr-thane i am not such a big fan of Owen, so if he will come back… nah, i have to see how i would react to that.
I would love to see Toshiko or Ianto back, because i love both of them a lot more. But your arguments make a lot of sense.
Hey, what do you think? Who will be back from death? Because RTD said: Someone who is supposed to be dead will be back." so i really think, and hope it will be an old main character... what do you think?
!!!!! I actually made a couple of posts about it, and @teaboyofficeboy too, and we agree: It’s most likely going to be Owen. The exact phrase after all was ‘just has to be, has to be dead’, extra emphasis. So, likely someone who died more than once. AND someone not /confirmed/ dead or indisposed. That rules out Tosh (not that Scott Handcock himself didn’t claim that she’s ‘definitely dead’), and technically, also Ianto (since he wasn’t 'revived’ in House of the Dead, at least not in the classical sense). And Suzie too, since the events of her novel… well, don’t want to spoiler here, but she appears pretty permanently stuck where she is, and that’s not Earth.So. That leaves Owen. An especially likely candidate since no one ever actually saw his body (I mean, who would??? I bet it wasn’t even recovered, radioactive as it was/is). Also, there’s been theories on how he might come back ever since he died (and I don’t just mean fan theories; someone ON SET actually said smth along the lines of him (Owen) escaping into the sewers and fully becoming the King of the Weevils). And doesn’t the AAU ep 5 summary remind you of a couple of things….?I’d love to link you the relevant posts on my blog about all of this, but I’m on my mobile 😩😩 Perhaps just try my 'Aliens Among Us’ tag if you’re interested?
I just found it, thank you :)
Yeah, seems to be possible. Actually i have a really difficult relationship with Owen so it would be ... interesting for me if he comes back.
Actually i would love to see Toshiko or Ianto bakc from death. I just finished season 2 and i don’t know if i would ever watch season3, 4 and 5 if he stays dead. But your theory makes really much sense.
But this room was totally closed. How could he escaped?
Ianto admits he loves Jack in the earlier version of ‘A Day in the Death’ script:
“Don’t tell me. It’s love,” says Owen. “Yes,” replies Ianto. “I mean, I think so. I love him.”
WHY DID THEY CUT THIS?!
