Okay, okay. I know I’ve said this before, but I get a little too emotional thinking about this. The fact that Ethan *dies* in Mission Impossible 3 and Julia is the one who brings him back makes me go insane because the end of their relationship is why we have the Ethan we have from Ghost Protocol to Fallout.
Probably one of the hardest things to come to terms with is a relationship that ends, not because you’ve fallen out of love, but because circumstances keep you apart. This is what Ethan is dealing with in Ghost Protocol, and the end of that relationship hasn’t come about because they don’t love each other, but rather because Ethan loves Julia. Ghost Protocol ends with Ethan watching over her from a distance before disappearing into the night, and come Rogue Nation, the legend of Ethan Hunt is born.
It’s not your job to protect her. It’s mine.
Ethan wasn’t able to save his marriage, so instead he saves the world because it’s the only way he can love Julia. It’s not the life he wanted, but he may have found some small peace with it because he does it out of love.
This scene somewhat mirrors the one in Mission Impossible 3 where they’re on top of the hospital roof and Ethan asks Julia to trust him, she does emphatically and she’s reminding him of that.
I feel like Ethan is a tragic hero rather than an action one, because despite saving the world he’s denied the one thing which could make him happy. A normal life with Julia.

[Christopher] McQuarrie reveals that, in the new movie, Faust teams with Cruise’s character to infiltrate a swanky event in Italy, as seen in the exclusive image above.
“They are at the Doge’s Palace in Venice,” says the director, who will wrap up the film’s story in the currently-shooting Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two, which is set for release in July of 2024. “It wouldn’t be Mission: Impossible if there was not some formal event that our characters had to attend. They’re walking into an event not knowing what it is they’re walking into and it’s compounded by the fact that there’s a great deal of uncertainty. Ethan is involved in something that he himself does not fully understand.”

Still think it is a cute detail that at the end of MI3 Ethan and Julia are still wearing the children plastic rings as their wedding rings

Took me until this rewatch to see that in the finale scene of MI3 Julia wears her bee toy weeding ring. Cute detail

MI6: Everyone, even Ethans love interest, is a Julia stan
I love how Mission impossible 3 is: Nyah? Nyah who? We do not know a Nyah here. But have you seen Ethan wife? She is amazing. What do you mean: “ where they met”? At a lake of course! And stop asking what happend to Nyah. We are telling a super cool story here, letting you forget that MI2 even exist. Noone cares what happend to Nyah!”

One thing i really loved about MI6 was that Ilsa and Julia were not fighting over Ethan. Both knew their positions. Ilsa even said that she liked Julia. And Julia knew that she is now married to a super cute funny guy and that she has no right to refuse Ethan a happy love life. No! instaed she encourages Ilsa to make a step forward and to comfort Ethan. I love that!
