okay full disclosure I asked why it was called this and the lesbian who owns it was like "idk" so I had NO CHOICE but to go on a spiel about how Holmes is THE premier queer literary icon of the western canon (so that she could tell people later if they asked) and she started filming me (so that she could just show people a video of me talking about it later, if they asked)

*not including House M.D. because it's not really an adaptation, or any overtly queer pastiches like My Dearest Holmes or The Adventure of the Furtive Festivity because that's not really a fair contest

Actually the irregulars on Netflix because this John Watson is confirmed gay and in love with his Sherlock.

If you want one of the above. Elementary. Not only is Mrs Hudson trans, sherlock is also confirmed queer

Of course you could argue now that in TPLOSH Sherlock is gay as well, but they gave him this really ambiguous relationship with a woman.

So I would put it as „queer but not as queer as the irregulars queer“

The creators saying they wouldn’t do canon Johnlock is absolutely valid

But watch me writing rants when someone says: „it’s up for interpretation“

In their defense: they said: „every interpretation is valid“ which is already a big step compared to how bbc Sherlock treated us. But I am so tired that we are still stuck here. Because you wouldn’t hear that for straight couples, showing that straight is still the default and we still have a long way to go for equality,

Because if we would be equal, we wouldn’t have this discourse in the first place.

„Every interpretation is valid“ but John is going on date with women, Mariana looks at sexy men and says: „yummy“ but when it comes to queer identities we suddenly shy away from it?

I don’t even blame the creators it just shows that this way of thinking is deeply internalized in todays society. Especially people who consider themselves progressive. „It doesn’t matter what sexuality you have“ yeah, yeah it does. Because we aren’t equal. Not talking about identities means erasing them,

It would be wonderful to live in a society where it doesn’t matter but we are far from that yet.

And until we are finally equal please don’t say: „it doesn’t matter“ because it does

TL:DR: I don’t care if the podcast makes no one queer. I just hope we would leave those arguments behind. And reminder: I don’t always have to agree with a creator of a medium I enjoy. It is okay to say critical stuff. We don’t have to change the topic immediately because we might fear the creator of our beloved medium might feel uneasy. That’s okay and part of the job sometimes. If we would only praise creators, we would never move forward
