Crispy day, said hi to some clouds
Guess who gets to go flying today!
'This is my favorite girlie!' And it's the saddest 150 you've ever seen lol
I love this airplane, and I've been trying to convince the owner (my instructor) to get it in annual and I might have SUCCEEDED i wanna see her ass FLY
I also yearn for the skies, but I don't know where to start. How did you get into flying planes?
Oh I can answer this one! It's a lot easier than you think! Google 'flight school near me', hit search, and profit :) Avoid big ones like ATP (unless you're interested in fast tracking an airline career I guess?), but any small-time (Part 91) school near you, just call them up, ask if you can take a discovery flight! It's that easy! To get started, anyway. The next steps tend to be a little harder, but to get a taste and see if you like it, just jump in! Discovery flights are a great time, no commitment, no studying needed beforehand, just have fun, and even if you never go back it's worth the experience :) Plus instructors love disco flights, super easy time and the student is usually really excited to be there lol. You'll get to manipulate the controls on your first flight, too! If you get through the disco flight and love it, then you can sign up for classes at the flight school or shop around at other schools then commit. Once you choose a flight school, you'll want to look into getting your flight medical, which is where it gets a little tough. The FAA is really strict on who gets a medical to fly, so BEFORE you start this process, ask yourself - have you ever been diagnosed with any mental health conditions (depression, anxiety etc) or taken medication for them? do you have any severe health issues such as seizures, heart conditions, or etc that the FAA might frown on? Some of these requirements aren't super fair (the mental health ones I have negative opinions about) but that is the reality of the FAA - if you've ever taken meds or been diagnosed, STOP HERE and do NOT pursue your FAA medical. If you get rejected once, you can essentially NEVER try again. Don't start the process if you think you might lose. You can still fly light sport without a medical, but if you're denied for one, that option goes away forever. If you need more information on the FAA medical process, message me, but if you're a healthy individual with no history you're fine. and don't worry about that yet, I just wanted to mention just in case so you didn't start the process and then realize later you weren't going to get through it! it's dumb. But I'm really familiar with it and have a special issuance. BUT TAKE A DISCO FLIGHT! It will change your LIFE! Once you get a taste, you tend to be hooked! Say goodbye to your wallet, though :D
And well me personally how I got into it, my mom got her private pilot's license when I was about 9-10, and she would take me and my brother to lessons and let us run around the airport on the ground and explore while she flew :) This was a small, rural hometown airport, not a large operation. I spent a lot of my childhood poking around hangars, seeing cool airplanes and watching my mom fly. Went flying with her a few times, then she died when I was 11 (NOT IN AN AIRPLANE, MIND. in a car, unfortunately). She had an airplane, a 150L, and they sold it when she died and 11 year old me was so mad lol, I wanted to fly that plane! But no one listened. 20 years later, here I am learning to fly with the same instructor that taught my mom :) Reconnected with him recently and he's a close friend. I labored under the delusion that I couldn't get a medical for a really long time, because of my chronic illness, but recently did more research after getting that longing to fly, watching too many aviation youtube videos and etc and missing the old airport, that I finally gave it a shot, called up my old instructor, got my special issuance. I was super stoked to see the airport still operating and my instructor still hanging around, haha. He's an airport cryptid (and a really good pilot). Here's my mom with her 150!
And I had this made by an artist friend last Christmas to add me :) I never got to know my mom as an adult, but I like to think she'd be delighted I'm learning.

You ever think about how whack it is that humans just. invented airplanes
like oh we weren't born with wings?? too bad I'm gonna make some. it's possible. I'm gonna defy physics and fly, dammit
Most ppl who I tell about flying (in a lil airplane) are like 'oh hell no that would terrify me' which I think is the proper human reaction. But some weird humans just long for the sky. I'm totally one of them. I crave it
IM GONNA GO FLYINGG work on rudder coordination
Circled the pumpkin patch to see the corn maze today :)
Might actually get to go flying tomorrow if it isn't gusting 35
Cleaned my favorite airplane yesterday for a couple bucks, my instructor offered me cash or a flight hour and my heart said flight but my brain said cash 😭😭
apply brake
The one bright spot in my life rn - getting invited to go flying
Touching clouds
(Like 'get out and touch grass' except... flying)
Oh beautiful day. It's not even hot (it's like 70 out) almost no wind, absolutely stellar for flying. LETS GOOO
