The door shut firmly behind the Princess’ Private Secretary, leaving the four highest-ranking members of the Royal Family in the oversized room alone. An uneasy silence lingered past the echo’s reverberation, only adding to Rosalie’s anxiety. She shifted on the plush cushion, running her hand along and smoothing her skirt as she cleared her throat and looked towards her father, asking, “What did you hear from the doctor? Do they know for sure what’s going on?”

Thousands gathered on Monday afternoon as Prince James, 30, returned back from his last stop on the Royal Tour throughout the Islands. He was all smiles as the handsome and fan favorite prince stepped off the plane in his highly decorated uniform, but things don’t seem to be all that meets the eye. 

With the next in line to the throne returning just three weeks after leaving, an unusually short visit, we’ve wondered what this could mean for the prince. With rumblings of multiple hospital visits and ill-health for King Joseph, this abrupt homecoming and a return to normal royal duties in Ellington for Prince James seems like a lot more than simply just a coincidence. 

But that’s not all.

Announcement

We know the last time we talked to you guys like this, we were saying goodbye. Our schedules and lives were in much different places then compared to when we started this journey together, and we just could not make the space in our lives for writing anymore. 

Over the last few months, we’ve been feeling the itch to flesh out a story we’ve had in the back of our minds since 2022. We have been thinking about this particular story almost non-stop, and it is one that we intend to start and finish, and likely be “done” officially after. To be clear - we are here to do this only, we don’t intend to keep creating new stories beyond this one. 

In full transparency, it is also an alternate-universe story. AUs are and always were the most fulfilling ones for us to write - getting to create worlds, characters, settings, and do whatever we wanted with it. 

We’re not sure how long it will be yet and we do have a small bit written, but we are just so excited to stretch our wings creatively one last time, and to do it together. We’re excited and hope you all are too!

Nat balanced the phone between her shoulder and ear as she put a dish in the oven, shutting the door as she turned on the timer. “So have you given work an answer about the promotion yet?” Her father asked, his voice a calming wave over her as she cooked dinner. 

“Not yet but I have to by Monday,” she replied, biting her lower lip as she watched the timer count down on the small screen. She had a lot going on, a running to-do list in her mind – and on her phone, her computer, and the back of her hand – but at the top of it right now, was the man on his way from the private airfield nearby. “I was going to talk to Chris about it last weekend when I went to his sister’s wedding but obviously that didn’t happen. I tried to talk to him a few times this week but he didn’t have time but he’s in town this weekend for his friend’s bachelor party, and he’s coming over soon so I’ll talk to him then.” 

Eric made a small sound at those words, assuring her, “I’m sure he’ll be so excited for you.”

The soft beep of Chris’ security system echoed through the otherwise quiet home just as he was pulling plates out of a cabinet. With a glance backwards over his shoulder, he watched as Lisa came into the kitchen, her face tired as her hands held a take-out bag from her favorite restaurant in town.  

“You look beat,” he chuckled as he took the food from her, but knew he felt the exact same way as she looked. 

“That’s what all mothers of the brides look like the day after a wedding,” Lisa shook her head as she sat down heavily on a barstool, taking a sip of water from the glass he’d sat out for her. Chris busied himself with putting their food on plates, sliding Lisa hers as he walked around the island to sit down next to her, putting his plate down in front of him. “Did you have a good time last night? I was a little worried about you.”
