After a year of deteriorating conditions and a severe lack of aid, Mohammed Al-Habil (@alhabil) & his family are in an incredibly dangerous situation. He and his wife are parents to 3 very young children: Ahmed (8), Osama (6), & Mira (4). Their children's elderly grandparents are also with them. Over the course of the last year, they've all become increasingly unwell, but right now Mohammed & his wife are terrified for their children and his parents.

Winter just started and its only going to worsen their situation. Mohammed urgently needs to be able to buy food and warmer clothes for all of them (especially his children), and medication for his parents. I see a lot of people in my notes wondering "what can we do?" in response to Israel's genocide in Gaza.

Here's one way:

I was talking to @amalashuor who's currently displaced in southern Gaza, and she told me about how with the recent heightened restrictions imposed by Israel on goods, the prices of daily necessities skyrocketed. Things like a litre of cooking oil is $15, a kg of tomatoes is over $25 and a kg onions is over $40!

The campaign she has set up has become the main source of funds that enables a family of 20, including 9 children, to eat and get basic necessities like formula and diapers.

Amal has already sold her gold jewellery to be able to feed her family, but it is not enough. I know we can help, to give her and her family some hope in the midst of Israel's attempts to eradicate any source of hope in Gaza.

Can we bring back Palestine Academy as a resource, I fear a lot of people are forgetting to go back to the basics and simply learn about what is happening in Gaza and what HAS BEEN happening for the past 76 years

Let me tell you what crimes Israel has been up to in northern Gaza just in the past 24 hours (October 24, 2024):

- All three hospitals in northern Gaza are now under siege. The head of Al Awda hospital explains that there are hundreds of patients, including infants in incubators, that the staff simply cannot abandon.

- Israel attacked and destroyed the only remaining fire truck in northern Gaza. This attack led the Gaza civil defence to announce halting their operations in north Gaza completely.

- Israel has issued a kill list including 6 of the last remaining journalists in northern Gaza. Despite providing no evidence, these journalists are falsely accused of being members of Hamas/IJ, which makes them targets to assassinations as was the case with 100+ other journalists in Gaza.

- In the middle of the night, Israel has forcibly displaced thousands of families in the north, forcing them to leave their shelters/homes on foot to the south. Many of them have gone missing along the way.

- On top of relentless bombardment and massacres in the north, Israel continues to block food and water from entering north Gaza since the beginning of October. People are besieged and starved and being killed in so many ways.

These are all pieces of the same plan of Israel's complete ethnic cleansing of northern Gaza. We're witnessing it unfold minute by minute.

I was checking on someone from Gaza and I asked them "how's the condition of the tent?" a question that really, really stung.

As Palestinians, whether or not we experienced living in tents and refugee camps first hand, tents have been a symbol of our initial displacement in 1948.

Finding myself asking this question to a Palestinian 76 years later really struck me.

Israel is a settler colonial entity, intent on disappearing Palestinians through massacres and displacement to make way for its expansionist project.

The fact that this is a question we are still having to ask is beyond heart-wrenching, but it also tells me that try as they might, we are rooted in this land and Israel's attempts have never deterred us.

Despite how painful this is, the least we can do is actually ensure that these tents are adequate enough to withstand upcoming winter conditions as it approaches.

Siraj is looking to raise funds to secure an adequate living space for his family this winter. He's currently only $842 away from reaching the target and you can donate here.

And for families who aren't fundraising, the Sameer Project team is currently working to provide tents to displaced Palestinians in Gaza. You can donate to them via Chuffed / Venmo / PayPal. Just make sure you leave a note "tent" to specify which project you're donating to.

Eman is 17 years old, and lives in Ghazzah with her mom. She is only in highschool, however she's unable to finish her year because her school was destroyed by the occupation.

She and her mom were displaced; they now live in a tent with very little to support themselves. Her mother suffers from chronic cardiac conditions, leaving her bedridden at the moment and without proper treatment due to the conditions in Ghazzah. Her mother's health is worsening; since Eman's father was martyred in 2014, she's deeply afraid of losing the only parent she has left.

In order for Eman and her mom to evacuate as well as for Eman to be able to finish highschool , they are trying to raise $40,000 USD. So far, they've only raised $3,292. Their last donation was 22 hours ago.

i’ve been thinking about innocuous photos like the one on the left. because it is my job to neglect the sprouts of imperialism and racism that accompanied my upbringing, i've been attempting to find solidarity even in the innocuous. and how easily it comes: marah and i, both schoolgirls who like cute things, both compelled by the desire to photograph our supplies after arranging them to be just-so. the photo on the right is an old one of mine.

if you were to ask yourself:

“how much do i have in common with a palestinian?”

i think the answer would be “everything.” maybe you’re united by the love you have for your pets, being fans of the same goth rock band, or the fact that, were something of severity to happen to your family, you’d also be online, asking for help in a way your elders might find it hard to wrap their heads around, and making sure people knew they could trust your campaign.

and if this were a message you were sending, i hope that your hope would remain in tact, because people like us, on the other end, would be doing everything they could to help you.
