not to be dramatic but people with chronic health conditions are literally 10000% stronger than you give them credit for
So I’ve been AWOL but it’s for an actual reason — I’m 6 weeks away from the arrival of my first child. I’m sorry for the lack of posts, the loads of asks in my inbox, and I promise once my life stops being hectic for more than a minute I’ll be back.
All chronically ill people are cool as hell I’m sorry I don’t make the rules
Having to map out all of the bathrooms everywhere you go, “just in case”.
me, forever, no matter how many times this happens: you mean... this whole day... all this pain... was because i had to poop?
Coffee is a major trigger for my IBS but wow I never learn
This is me every day, multiple times a day
can we as a society just generally move away from the idea that it is better to bear with an illness than to take medicine that could help?
Yes fucking please
I’m astounded by the privilege of people who disdainfully look at me at say, “I don’t like relying on pills.”
Yeah, well, me either but I don’t have the luxury of being able to survive without them.

When feeling good - genuinely good, even if only for an hour or a day - is a miracle worth celebrating…
you may be four months pregnant, but aren't we all sometimes when the bloating gets too real? 😂😂 best wishes for you and your baby
Thanks so much!
What triggers IBS? I've just been diagnosed with IBS-D, and it sort of started a year or so ago, but a month ago the symptoms just totally ramped up due to this crazy stressful time that involved traveling with no knowledge of where a bathroom would be (fun!!). The symptoms have lessened somewhat after the trip, but they're still present in my life. I've recently found the IBS community on Tumblr and tbh I'm sort of feeling guilty because my symptoms are pretty mild compared to some people's.
You can't compare your disease to anyone else's. It's counterproductive and insulting to yourself to downgrade your illness because you "don't have it as bad as others". You already have it bad. You don't need to feel guilty about it as well. Usually IBS is triggered by stress, or by trigger foods, or a combination of both. It makes sense your symptoms got worse because of the stress of not knowing if you'd have access to a bathroom. Some of the major trigger foods are alcohol, caffeine, onions, and garlic. But even the most innocuous things can be a trigger food, which is why so many doctors suggest going on the FODMAP diet and reintroducing foods to see what your body doesn't agree with. Best of luck to you!
