A/n: I deeply apologize for this part taking soooo long to come out so as a sorry I made this part decently long but I hope you all enjoy :))
I woke with a start as a set of daggers wrapped in leather hit the ground mer inches from my head. “You’ll want these if yer to survive out here.” The dwarf Dwalin said gruffly. I picked them up as I sat up, still disoriented from just waking up. I mumbled a tired “Wha?” and Dwalin sighed, “I’m guessing by the look of ya that you don’t got any weapons on you, so here.” I took the daggers out of their leather covers and held them up in the dim light of morning. They were very elegant and had beautiful carvings in them. “Thank you” I smiled looking up at Dwalin. He gave a small grunt and walked away, going over to his sleeping spot.
“Come on lads get up if we are to make it to the next town by sunset we must get going, Fili, Kili go check on the ponies,” Thorin ordered. You gave a long sigh and fell back on your blanket. It was barely sunrise at the moments and the morning dew was still thick in the air. Very little light was provided by the sun and the air was quite cool. Not to mention I was EXHAUSTED. Who’s idea was it to sleep on the ground in the WOODS?? I woke up multiple time during the night making sure that no bugs or spiders were crawling all over me, let allow snakes. How do these dwarves sleep like this?? I give this a 1 star rating on Yelp.
But no matter how sore or tired i was I still had to get up and get ready to start a long day of horse riding. Yay. I guess it’s not so bad I mean it could be worst. So I pulled myself together and gathered up my makeshift bed, if I can even call it that.
The dwarves didn’t seem too bothered by my presence for the rest of the day, nor were Gandalf or Bilbo, who I was currently riding between. Not gonna lie the dwarves kind of intimate me, even the more welcoming ones like Fili, Kili, Ori, and Bofur. They just carry too many weapons and are well…male. And a lost young girl doesn’t just blindly trust a group of men that they met a few hours ago, well a smart one doesn’t. So I chose to keep my distance for the time being. Gandalf get a bit of a pass because he’s like a grandpa and I’m pretty sure he’s not even paying attention to what anyone is saying half the time, like he’s off in his own world. And Bilbo has already gained quite a bit of my trust, by talking to me and answering all my questions about his world, plus he’s such a flustered softie that it’s hard not to trust him.
It’s evening now and we have already passed the town we needed to reach by sunset at midday, so Thorin seemed to be in a good mood and decided to settle down earlier for the night.
When we arrived to our spot, Bilbo helped me off my pony and Balin walked over to help us tie them down. We were next to this old broken down house, that I overheard Gandalf said use to belong to a farmer and his family. I frowned at that and thought of what could of possibly done this to those poor people. But that was a thought I didn’t want to ponder on for too long, so I shook my head and focused back on tying up the ponies. As I was doing that I could hear Gandalf and Thorin having a heated discussion under the broken house. Welp there goes Thorin’s good mood. Thanks Gandalf.
Then, with one finally angry huff Gandalf stormed of down the hill. “Gandalf, where are you going?” called Bilbo, leaving the task of tying his horse long forgotten. “To seek the company of only one around here who’s got any sense.” Gandalf yelled back. “And who’s that” questioned Bilbo, trying to get a less vague answer out of the wizard. “Myself, Master Baggins!” Yelled Gandalf. Real helpful.
“Is he coming back?” Bilbo questioned desperately to Balin, who gave a mere shrugged and continued tying the ponies. Great, so now it’s just me, Bilbo, and bunch of dwarves, in a torn down house (which whatever tore it down could still be close by) in the middle of nowhere. This could not get any worse
During dinner, with Gandalf still nowhere in sight, Bilbo and I were sent to bring Fili and Kili, who were supposed to be watching the ponies, their stew. And these numb heads have done lost a majority of them. “What do you mean you lost them? How did you manage to do that?” I asked while still holding one of their stews. “We got distracted!” Kili argued back. “With what? What could have possibly distracted you?” I continued to question. Fili and Kili paused and looked at eachother smirking and as they were about to say something I put my hand up, “you know what I don’t want to know.” I could probably guess by that look that it was probably something to do with the tobacco they had stuffed in their coats. “Shouldn’t we tell Thorin?” Asked Bilbo, also still holding one of their stews. “Ahhh No.” Fili said trying to steer clear from the wrath of Thorin Oakenshield, “Let’s not worry him. Besides as our official burglar, we thought you might want to take a look into it” he finished. Bilbo straighten up “well perhaps something big uprooted these trees.” He suggested. “That was our thinking.” Kili added and he squatted down to examine the root of the tree closest to him. “Something very big, and possibly..quite…dangerous.” Bilbo said looking a bit unsettled at that thought.
You rolled your eyes and began to to walk over to Fili, handing him the bowl of soup. “Obviously it had to be ‘quite’ big in order to knock down these trees, and I bet whatever it was also destroyed the farmers home we are currently staying at.” You said looking at the track of horse hooves in the mud, along with something else’s foot prints.
“Hey, there’s a light” Fili spoke up, “over here.” And he waved us all over. “Stay down” he added as we crouched behind one of the fallen trees. I could see what Fili was talking about and heard rough, scratchy voices and laughs in the distance. “What is it?” Bilbo asked in a whisper tone, looking between Fili and Kili. “Trolls.” Kili spoke grimly and both Fili and him took off in that direction. Bilbo and I looked at eachother for a second before I took off after them as well, Bilbo following shortly after with both stews now in hand.
Once we caught up to the two of them, they were both ducked down next to a tree. Then we noticed why when a huge troll came walking by with a pony tucked under each arm. Bilbo and I ducked behind the tree right next to Fili and Kili’s. “I hate it here” I muttered to myself, and you may be thinking that I’ve been bitching a lot lately but you would be too if you go dropped kicked into a dimension where shit like this happens.
“They’ve got Murtle and Minty!” Bilbo whisper shouted, “I think they’re about to eat then, we have got to do some thing!” That caught Fili and Kili’s attention. “Yes, you should!” Kili quietly exclaimed as he grabbed Bilbo’s shoulder and pushed him into Fili, trading spots with him and grabbing a bowl of stew from his hands in the process. “Mountain troll are slow and stupid, and you’re so small they’ll never see you! It’s perfectly safe we’ll be right behind you!” He explains.
“If you run into trouble hoot twice like a barn owl and once like a brown owl.” Fili said as he gave Bilbo a shove out of their hiding place, grabbing his bowl of stew also, and was about to run off again when I stood up and stated “I’m going with him.”
They each obviously disagreed with that but I was determined. Why was I so determined to go face off some troll for some ponies? I have no idea probably because I didn’t want Bilbo to go by himself and I also wanted to prove to the company I wasn’t just a tag along they picked up but I could actually be resourceful.
“Come on, like you said mountain trolls are slow and stupid and we’re so small they won’t even notice us. We’ll just free the ponies and get back.” I try to persuade them and they all looked unsure, not being able to find a solid reason to say no. “Alright fine but just go in and get out.” Fili said and was clearly not okay with this idea. “Good luck” Kili added and Bilbo and I started toward the way the troll went.
Wow (y/n) this is a great idea. Walk straight toward certain dealth. Brilliant.
Thank goodness that Mister Baggin who also had no idea what he was doing followed close behind me.
When we reached the outskirts of the trolls camp we slowed and ducked down so they wouldn’t spot us. Bilbo was right next to me with his hand on my back and kept me close to him. Obviously he didn’t like that I tagged along and wished I stayed back with Fili and Kili where it was safer, then right under the noses of three monstrous trolls. Who were currently arguing with eachother over the fact they wish they had something other than horse to have for dinner tonight, little did they know that a perfectly good meal (aka us) had slipped right behind them. We slowly slipped over to the horses and tried to unknot the ropes that was currently keeping the horse in their fenced in prison. After trying for a while to get them undone Bilbo, tapped my shoulder and nodded his head over to the knife in the pocket of troll closest to us. He looked back to me and I shook my head and mouthed a desperate ‘no!’ but he crept over towards it anyways. I sighed and stayed right where I was still trying to loosen the ropes. I looked over to see Bilbo crawling right behind the troll when his hand accidentally grabbed onto a bone. He threw it a bit and wipe his hand on his coat and kept crawling.
Oh this is not going to end well. I have a look around to see if there was any other way to get the horses loose that didn’t involve stealing from a hungry troll, when I heard said troll let out a large yelp and I look over to see Bilbo laying in his hand with snot all over him. I had to hold back a gag at the sight. Poor Bilbo.
“ Ah Blimey! look what’s come out of my hooter!” The troll said. Wow Kili wasn’t wrong they were pretty stupid. “ it’s got arms and legs and everything” he continued. I quickly pulled out my trusty pair of dagger I had no idea how to use and crept over behind the three troll huddled together around Bilbo. “What is it?” Asked one of the other troll. “I don’t know. But I don’t like the way it wriggles around” said the first troll and threw Bilbo on the ground. “What are you then? An oversized squibble?” Questioned the second troll, holding up a knife to Bilbo. “I’m a burgl- uh hobbit” Bilbo spoke frantically. “A burglahobbit?” Asked the first troll, licking his lips, growing impatient. The other troll then asked “can we cook him?” As a sick smile grew on his face. “We can try” answered the first and as he lean down and reached toward Bilbo, I ran out of my hiding and ran in between him and the trolls. “Stay back! Don’t you come another step closer!” I shouted as I held my daggers out and proud, I though maybe if I look like I know what I’m doing and act unafraid I can buy us some time before Fili or Kili come, hopefully with the others as well. Bilbo put a hand on my shoulder from behind me and whispered “what are you doing?” I was about to answer when the third troll asked “Where did you come from?” And the three of them eyed Bilbo and I. “Nevermind that just grab them!” Shouted the first. Well that didn’t work.
Bilbo and I ran off to the right but the third troll blocked our path. “They both wouldn’t make no more than a mouthful. Not when skinned and boned.” He shouted and pushed us with his spoon and we both stumbled a bit backward. Turning around only to be met by the first troll and his knife pointing right at us. “Perhaps there’s more burglahobbits around these parts. Might be enough for a pie.” He said and pushed us is another direction. Bilbo and I holding on to eachother and picking eachother up before trying to run again. “Grab ‘em!” One of them shouted as we ran back and forth around camp dodging flying hands of the trolls. My heart racing and on the edge of completely freaking out. “They’re too quick” said another as we ran between its leg and almost made it to the woods before both our legs got grabbed by one of the trolls.
“Gotcha!” He exclaimed, holding one of us upside down in each of his hands. We were both panting and struggling in his grip. “Are there any more of you fellas hiding where you shouldn’t?” He questioned with the first one moving next to him picking up a knife and holding it against my back. It dug in deep and a small cry escaped me.
“No!” We both shout at the same time. “They’re lying!” A troll said and the one behind me pushed the knife into my back more and I let out a shout of pain. That definitely is gonna leave a mark. Bilbo looked over with a look of horror on his face. “No We’re not!” He shouted desperately, trying to get free. “Hold their toes over the fires! Make ‘em squeal” continued the troll. But just then Kili broke out from the tree line and sliced the troll in the back of his leg making it stumble back before Fili broke through as well and rammed his sword into his leg in the front causing it to completely fall over. “Drop them!” Kill yelled as he twirled his sword and Fili prowled around him looking the trolled dead in the eye before looking at me and Bilbo and I could see the worry in his eyes.
“You what?” Asked the troll holding Bilbo dumbly. Kili seethed and growled “I said drop them.” With that the trolls gave a look of disgust and threw Bilbo and I at them. Bilbo went hurtling at Fili and I at Kili, luckily they both caught us before we hit the ground. And just then the whole company of dwarves broke out of the trees swords a blazed and a battle cry ripping out of them.
“Are you okay?” Kili looked up from under me and I tried to sit up. “I’ll live” I said with a grunt following after as he tried to help me stand up. “You’re bleeding!” He said when I turned towards the others and he saw the blood from the trolls knife seeping through my shirt. “We have more pressing matters at the moment,” I said nodding toward the fight just next to us. Kili looked over at it and then back at me. He gave a scowl but nodded and pushed me behind his back.
Fili had helped Bilbo up and then ran towards the fight. As he ran by I said to Kili, “I’m gonna help Bilbo.” Who turned around and look at me worried but he knew he couldn’t just stand around and protect me. He sighed and reluctantly said “be careful” before turning to join the fight and I took off after Bilbo, who had found the knife he was trying to get earlier and was sawing at the rope on the horses fence. I struggled to stay up and awake though, the cuts across my back were deeper than I realized and I was loosing a bit of blood. Bilbo grabbed my shoulder and looked me in the eyes concerned, “hey you okay?” He asked, stopping his cutting for a second. I muttered a yes I’m fine and waved him off. He studied me for a sec but eventually turned back to cutting the rope. When the rope finally broke I helped him open the gate to let the horses out. Unfortunately the ruckus of that caused one of trolls to notice and he came charging at us. Right before he could grab Bilbo, I noticed and shouted, “Bilbo look out!” And using the remainder of my energy I pushed him out of the way and the troll grabbed me instead. Which I gotta admit wasn’t one of my best ideas. “No! (Y/n)!” Bilbo shouted from his place on the ground and the troll turn towards the others holding me in the air. “Let me go!” I shouted, trying to break free from its grasp. Man this was just not my day. The rest of the company heard my shouts and looked over to see me caught by the trolls…again. This time he and another troll was holding me by my arms, one in each of their hands, with my body dangling in the air and a knife to my throat by the one who grabbed me. “(Y/n)!” Kili shouted and made a run towards me but Thorin grabbed him and pulled him back shouting a no. “Put your arms down! Or we’ll slit her throat!” Demanded the troll holding the knife and pressed in closer to my throat causing it to bleed, as if confirming his claim. I let our a weak cry and slightly looked up to the sky, letting a few tears fall down my face because you know what I’m tired and in pain and most of all scared to death that I might die. The company looked between Thorin and me waiting for his orders. Thorin looked at my terrified face and the blood all over me and slowly and reluctantly stab his sword in the ground, and the rest of the company followed suit.
The troll smirked and dropped my body to the ground, “go get some sacks and rope, and while your at it bring more fire wood too.” One troll ordered then pointed to another troll, “And you collect their weapons.” and each troll did as told. Once they collected all the weapons they herded the dwarves and Bilbo to the center of the camp where I still laid. My body too weak to move at the moment. Kili slide across the ground and scooped my head into his lap. “Y/n? Y/n can you hear me?” He desperately spoke and lightly shook me. Fili kneeling next to me and trailing his hand along my neck next to the trolls cut which was right across it and bleeding quite a bit. Fili looked over and called Oin over, “Oin! Hurry before they tie us up, is there anything out can do with what you got on you?” Oin rushed over and looked me over “I’ll try” he spoke and got to work, tearing up some cloth he had on him and wrapping it around my cuts.
“I told you to be careful” Kili weakly scolded me and pushed a strand of hair out of my face. My eye lids slightly open and I let out a small “I’m sorry” before shutting them again and passing out.
