Pray for Tonga 😭
Thinking of all my Pacific friends and whānau right now, sending so much love 😭💔💔💔 please message me if you find a link we can donate to (not the Red Cross or any missionary agencies) and I'll add some as soon as they are available
Guys Tonga is underwater. The tsunami swept through everywhere, the highest point on the main island of Tongatapu is just 28 meters above sea level. All power and communications have been cut off so we don't even know what's going on anymore, but at last report the sky is black and raining ash and acid rain. The water is undrinkable because of the acid. People can't breathe because of the ash. The entire island of 'Atata has gone underwater 😭
The explosion shook homes in Alaska, over 9500 km away. The tsunami has gone through the entire Pacific but nowhere has been affected as badly as Tonga. And no one outside the Pacific seems to be talking about it 😥

And an update:
[Image: a tweet from Anaseini Ulakai @fineutuvai reading "Latest Update Tsunami warning still in force, volcanic activities at ease. PM announced that gas stations, bakeries and shops will be open from 10am-2pm for ppl to get necessities. Settlements along Vuna Road from Sopu to Fasi & Maufanga heavily damaged. Source: British High Com." The timestamp is 12:35 16 Jan 22.]
To be clear, Hunga Tonga (the volcano that’s caused the tsunamis) is the largest volcano eruption on the planet since Mount Pinatubo in 1991, and the Aeta people displaced by Pinatubo still haven’t recovered from the damage it did to them. Hunga Tonga’s VEI is probably going to come in at a 6 which puts it in the same club as Krakatoa. This is a really fucking big volcano eruption, and it’s a really bad time to be an island nation living right by it.
Be aware that communications with Tonga will be spotty for awhile, there’s been damage to the Tonga Cable System. which is the underwater fiber-optic cable that provides internet service to the islands. The earliest repair estimate is two weeks, and that’s only if the volcano doesn’t get any more ideas. And given that it was declared dormant three days before the climactic eruption, nobody’s feeling super confident about the volcano staying quiet.
As of January 19th, the first medical relief teams from New Zealand have arrived in Tonga, and phone lines are partially restored. So at least we’ll have more information soon. Expect the reported death toll to start rapidly climbing in the next few days as casualties are confirmed.
The ash cloud from the volcano will be dispersing through the atmosphere over the next few months, and is expected to impact the southern hemisphere. It’s predicted that there will be a 0.5 degree celsuis drop in average temperature for the rest of the year, which is expected to end by November at the latest. Also a bit of good news for those of you living in the southern hemisphere, the atmospheric pollution from the volcanic debris is going to cause some absolutely gorgeous sunsets; climate scientists are predicting you’re going to start seeing purple sunsets in a few months, so that’s something to look forwards to.

hello everyone. very unfortunately, and unexpectedly, my mom passed away from covid on december 20th. because of this, my younger brother and myself are currently having to depend on other relatives that we aren’t all that close to and that don’t always necessarily have our best interest, for food, shelter, etc.
me, my brother and my mother had been living in an apartment in arizona, but for whatever reason, i guess since i am under the age of 21, after my mom passed at the hospital, the county told me that if we did not go to stay with family, that my younger brother would be placed in foster care. either way, we didn’t want to stay in the apartment that we had so many memories with our mother in and then had to resuscitate her at until paramedics arrived, so we left the apartment to stay with one of my uncles ex wife’s in las vegas, which i now regret because i am receiving no help from family with arranging my mother’s funeral or getting the things i need such as clothing. my “aunt” has gotten us food stamps which i appreciate, but they are on her terms, meaning she is keeping the food stamp card because she thinks we will misuse the food money??
anyway, i have two weeks to get back to arizona so that i can clear our things out of the apartment, throw things out and/ or place them in storage before the landlord removes our things herself and i will have to get them through the court system which would be a great inconvenience at this time as i am busy dealing with trying to bury my mother. my family here in nevada knows this and has not offered to help get me back there to handle this.
i have no money of my own and have not yet began working because i am dealing with my mother’s arrangements and also looking after my brother. if anyone out of the kindness of their heart would be willing to help my brother and i out even a little during this time, it would be so greatly appreciated!!

thank you so much🤍
i know people are seeing this, please don’t scroll past without at least reblogging. anything helps rn and would be so greatly appreciated!! i honestly hate asking strangers on the internet for help but i’m desperate right now and wouldn’t be asking if i didn’t sincerely need the help!!
I hope when y’all say end fatphobia and abolish conventional beauty standards you’re including disabled people too. I’m talking people with deformities, I’m talking people who can’t lose weight because they’re in a wheelchair, I’m talking people who can’t exercise because they have chronic pain or migraines, I’m talking people who are deathly thin, I’m talking people missing limbs. We aren’t freaky or ugly looking. We deserve love but even more importantly we deserve your respect.
Okay, granted, it’s been a while since I’ve seen “all trans readers like one kind of fic, and no trans readers ever like another kind of fic, so it is Transphobia when you write the Wrong Kind.”
…but it hasn’t been that long since I’ve seen someone quietly wonder if they’re a Bad Trans Person for having preferences.
So it’s never a bad time to say: different people have different needs, and it’s okay to be fulfilled by different kinds of stories!
(heck, the same person might have different needs at different points in their own life, and that’s okay too)
I am both of these trans people
I. Am. Disgusted. SIGNAL BOOST this!! This is unacceptable! We need to remember what pride is and what we stand for.
The gall of these people trying to call the cops on a black trans woman at the Stonewall Inn on the very anniversary of the riot (I’m sure they totally understood the irony of it) and then call her the fascist.
It’s beyond parody. This is why I’m sick of Pride being treated as a corporate party rather than a protest and why we need to teach the history of our movement because this is either appalling ignorance or outright and open bigotry.
We Are Here pt 1/?
Also, city people who use these sort of statistics to push ‘bigotted rural versus tolerant city’ population stereotypes can fuck right off.
‘progress’ in cities goes faster because of a higher concentration of LGBT organizers, greater opportunities to connect and mobilize, greater visibility in the political arena and greater access to resources.
So you can stop feeling morally superior.
Meanwhile, as of January 9, it's reported that 5,969 people were detained in Kazakhstan for participating in the protests. Also, according to previous days, 26 people were killed by the security forces.
But nobody cares about this (except for the Kazakhstanis themselves and part of the post-Soviet people), there are no #prayforkazakhstan promotions, there are no donations for the victims. And for some reason, many are more worried about whether Bitcoin will be mined after the protests.
Now "Mediazona. Central Asia" is reporting that since the beginning of the protests 164 people (including three children) have died, more than 2,200 people have been injured.
Updated data: "Mediazona. Central Asia" reports that as of January 11, 9,900 people have already been detained.
I mad agree with this.
This reminds me, if y'all haven’t heard of therapyforblackgirls.com please visit if you need a therapist. You can search by mental health need, location/distance, insurance, etc. I believe there are some that provide a sliding scale payment method for those without insurance.
If you’re not quite ready to make the jump, there is a podcast you can listen to as well as articles and links to help answer some of your questions about mental health and/or therapy.
The purpose, as I understand it, is to provide a place where black women can go to find culturally sensitive therapy. Some specialize in family/couples as well.
Take a look.
For any black Women following me!
Taking care of your mental health is another important factor in your overall health. Fighting for good mental health is a fight worth doing, and is just as difficult, if not moreso, than physical fighting.

Friday, December 31st: Hi everyone I’m Gemma, a bi, mentally ill woman, who is in desperate need of help as I'm really struggling to get through the New Year.
As most of you are already aware from my previous posts, I have been struggling financially for quite some time due to my welfare benefit being under a review, which is due to my worsening mental health and the UK’s controversial changes to how benefits are assessed and assigned. And at the moment, I'm currently struggling to get by, as my application for Disability (PIP) was declined and I don't receive my U.C benefit until the end of January, and all my previous donations have gone to pay off my rent and bills but I still have some outstanding bills to pay and my bank account is overdrawn & I have groceries to get for the New Year.
And absolutely no pressure on anyone, but I have a WISHLIST, with some items I desperately need. There are a few things to help with my insomnia, and one expensive item that is incredibly urgent. I've also added a bunch of gift cards, some between £10 - £50 to help me get by.
If anyone could spare anything to help me get through the New Year, even if it’s just £1/$1/€1, it would literally save my life, and sharing definitely helps just as much as donations. Nobody is obligated in any way to donate or buy anything from my wishlist if they can’t or don’t want to, I know we’re all struggling right now.
Thank you and happy New Year!! ❤
Donziger won Indigenous clients a $9.5 billion settlement from Chevron for poisoning the Amazon. Now he's gone to jail after a US judge appointed a Chevron-linked private law firm to serve as prosecutor in a contempt of court case. (Federal prosecutors refused to try the case)
One judge in the first case did not disclose he held investments in Chevron and was openly hostile to the plaintiffs. He appointed the second judge, who not only hired a law firm that works with Big Oil to prosecute Donziger, but hid the trial from the public
Steven Donziger is a US lawyer, Harvard Law alumnus, and environmental rights defender who represented victims of oil dumping in an emblematic case against Chevron Corporation in Ecuador, following accusations that the corporation was responsible for what is widely considered one of the worst oil-related environmental disasters in recent history.
He has been under pre-trial house arrest since August 2019 after he refused to comply with a court order to hand over his electronic devices, arguing that such a disclosure could compromise the confidentiality of the communications with his clients and put them at risk. The detention follows a long-running smear campaign of intimidation and harassment against Steven Donziger and other human rights defenders by Chevron.
In September 2021, the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention found that Steven Donziger’s deprivation of liberty is arbitrary because it lacks any legal basis and is in violation of several norms relating to the right to a fair trial, including the apparent lack of impartiality of the courts. Moreover, the Working Group concluded that his detention appears to be in retaliation for his work as a legal representative of Indigenous communities in Ecuador.
Despite serious concerns over the lack of independence, objectivity and impartiality of the judge who ordered the pre-trial house arrest and who has overseen the trial over criminal contempt charges, Steven Donziger was sentenced on 1 October to the maximum penalty of 6 months in prison and denied the possibility to be released pending an appeal.
We urge the Department of Justice to assume jurisdiction over the case instead of the private prosecutor, and promptly implement the UN Working Group’s decision by ensuring that Steven Donziger is released immediately and unconditionally. We also call on Attorney General Garland to launch a full and independent investigation of the circumstances surrounding Steven Donziger’s arbitrary deprivation of liberty and take the necessary measures to ensure that corporations do not abuse the justice system to target and harass human rights defenders.
More information can be found in Amnesty International's urgent action bulletin here: https://www.amnesty.org/en/documents/AMR51/4915/2021/en/
We join Amnesty International, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.), Rep. Cori Bush (D-Mo.), Rep. Jim McGovern, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), and 29 Nobel Laureates in calling on the DOJ to intervene.
found a post about this to reblog bc i heard some news about this issue. just in case any of you guys need further reason to despise Chevron. Steven Donzinger was able to get home for the holidays due to pressure from some congress members, but that this happened at all is a disgrace and sets a horrible precedent. there’s more information on Donzinger’s twitter, which is @ SDonzinger
Also despite winning the largest class action victory in the history of Ecuador, Chevron has not yet shelled out a single penny to the plaintiffs!
Chapo Trap House has an episode where they interview Donziger and talk about the case in detail. It really helped to hear directly from Donziger who intimately understands what has happened and what’s going on. The interview was from last year when he was under house arrest but this trial was still ongoing.
The big take away is how absurd and unprecedented it is for a private corporation to be allowed to appoint a prosecutor in a case that federal prosecutors refuse to take up. This isn’t a private company suing a private citizen for damages or something, which can happen just fine. This is a private company taking on the role of the state in place of the state to enforce laws the state attorneys already determined there wasn’t a case for. This is kangaroo court BS.

I'm just going to say it.
It's okay to have a low IQ.
It's okay to not be "smart", as in clever, witty, or cunning. It's okay.
It's okay to not be a leader. It's okay to be content following people- the important thing is making sure you're following the right people for you.
It's okay not to be good at maths and science, and it's okay not to be good at English or art or drama. It's okay if you're not good at anything "academic".
It's okay if you don't have a special talent, or a hobby you're particularly invested in.
It's okay to not be charming, or funny, or 'pretty'.
It's okay if you aren't society's ideal.
None of these things detract from you being a person. None of these things mean you have any less worth as a human being. Even if any of these things mean that you can't contribute to society as an engineer or a doctor or something, that doesn't mean you can't contribute to other people's lives. Don't let society determine your self worth.
Because you can still be kind. Still give people cookies, or hugs, or companionship. You can still do things, you could still find something that you're passionate about, you could still find your calling.
And even if you don't, that doesn't mean you aren't still human. All human beings have intrinsic value, just for being alive. You have the right to be part of society, and more importantly to be alive, whether or not you have something that make other people like you.
Your life is not dependent on others. You are allowed to just exist, to not have found that thing that makes you "you" yet.
It's okay, I promise.
