A whumpee becoming the whumper and taking their revenge on the monster that hurt them by hurting them ten times worse, fueled by hatred and everything that was done to them
Oh, yes! Retribution! I love seeing the tables turned. Maybe the villain doesn’t realize the danger they’re in at first. Like “you’re not capable of this. I know you.” But as the whumpee progresses with their revenge, it gets worse and worse for the villain, and you can see the visible change in the villain’s expression – once haughty arrogance, now terror-stricken agony. I live for that change in tune.
And the whumpee! Just that rage roiling under the surface, that utter disdain and loathing for the villain. Was the whumpee once a kind-hearted soul? One who would never hurt another living thing, but was pushed beyond their limits? Did they have morals? A strong personal code they lived by? Or did the villain just stoke the already hot coals of a headstrong whumpee, unaware of the blaze they were unwittingly going to set upon themselves?
There are so many ways to write this trope, and I’m definitely going to be thinking on it! Thank you so much!
