The first time Izzy hears Bonnet being badmouthed in a bar, he doesn’t think anything of it. He may even have cracked a grin and sent the men an anonymous drink, from his own coin.
The second time it happens, Edward is there too. Edward who is just starting to grow his beard back. Edward who welcomed Bonnet back into his life with a good natured stab and a lot of promises.
A sensitive Edward, who clenches his fist around his pint, and glares at Izzy.

Five times Izzy hid his hanahaki from Edward, and one time he couldn’t.
Izzy rolls over to face the wall and tries to breathe deeply, to compose himself before Ed gets back, but the lump in his throat keeps him from filling his lungs. He wonders, suddenly, whether it’s possible to die from getting a tattoo, or from forgetting to breathe, or from someone not kissing you when you really really want them to. With a sudden spasm, he curls in on himself, gasping and coughing until he feels something fall out of his mouth and into the palm of his hand. It’s a rose, pale pink and freshly opened, more delicate than anything he’s seen since they last docked in a port with a bakery selling fancy little cakes to rich toffs.

Of all the things Izzy expects to see when called into the captain's cabin, it's not Bonnet naked, on his knees on the floor with Edward standing over him with a frown.
"Captain?" He questions, wondering if this is the moment if Blackbeard's fascination has finally worn off.
"Need your help, Iz," Blackbeard says nudging Bonnet with the tip of his boot. Bonnet looks away a blush clearly visible on his cheeks even in the half-light of the cabin.
"With what?" Izzy wonders, if it was a change of course or the like Edward would have just told him, or yelled it at him anyway. This, Bonnet being naked and on display is not something he would ever have seen coming.
"With Stede," Blackbeard sounds a little resentful, "he needs to get out of his head a little..." Edward trails off, but Izzy can fill in the 'like you' without the words. "Except he doesn't like pain."

Playing with both the crossover of genre conventions between Stede’s universe and Izzy and Ed’s original one, but basically doing a deep dive into trauma response and navigating complex relationships between the crew and Izzy when Izzy is forced into a position where he has to share revealing and intimate things about himself. Lots of focus on the aftermath of abuse and trauma, playing with freeze responses and the way the different crew members navigate all this.
Post-Season 1, Stede and company rescue Ed and the rest of the crew from the clutches of a sadistic Dutch merchant.
