something that makes me nuts about the jenkins cut btw
ok one thing that was almost universally predicted by the fandom, and did not pan out, was ed keeping stuff hidden in the auxiliary wardrobe during the kraken era. never happened. in fact the auxiliary closet never gets mentioned in s2. well, whatever, that's not the only thing we were wrong about. we all thought lucius would be in the walls too.
but. we do know ed was hiding some stuff somewhere. that blue robe he's wearing for the morning-after scene is, according to gypsy taylor, one of stede's that he kept.
and, ok, they presumably never had to explain that, it sounds like just a headcanon on gypsy's part. but there's also the lighthouse painting, which we never saw, but was supposed to reappear, the set dressers actually put it back in place as they patched up the cabin and they've shared the bts images:
and having the painting just reappear with no explanation of where it was seems much weirder. given how carefully ed hides the cake topper and his general trust-no-one attitude it seems very unlikely he'd have had this painting that is very meaningful to him out anywhere it could be seen by others. especially when the painting seems to be completely untouched while every other visible possession of stede's has been vandalized. it sure wasn't there in that spot over the mantle earlier, we get a very clear shot of it in impossible birds:
the other thing is weirdly someone made a specific effort to disguise the lever that opens the auxiliary closet with something more on theme for the kraken's ship than stede's little mannequin:
so yeah i think he must have had this stuff in the auxiliary wardrobe, and i do think probably it was going to come up. not as a significant plot point or anything, but my guess is maybe the scene where ed's on his bender at the start of red flags playing with his wedding dolls was supposed to take place in the aux wardrobe like we all thought and then someone was like hey our budget got slashed and we're spending all this money on a mermaid tank and a rainbow pride market, do we really need to build this set that'll only be used in one scene.
so like not a big deal. probably the right call on budget honestly. but i really would have liked to see the concept for how they were going to decorate ed's little hidey hole with the painting and everything.
