By frazzled soul, it’s a good spin on young Lorelai and Rory.
Quite a few plot points I never read before.

Deepfriedcake finished her Donna Reed short. It’s delightful!
Honestly I’m Crying at the fact that Lorelai, not Luke, is going to be using the money Richard left to expand her business because Richard would be so proud. Like, once Lorelai opened up her inn Richard had associates pretty quickly calling him up, telling him what a success his daughter is and how proud he should be of her work and he tells her—he’s proud of her. When Lorelai left, she was rejecting everything about her parents—or so they probably felt. Their lifestyle, their values, anything they ever taught her. But here’s his daughter, running a successful business and sure it’s different fields but we’ve seen episodes where Lorelai can pretty comfortably navigate her father’s work world. And just remember—Richard’s father died when he was a boy, so chances are he pretty much taught himself the ins (pun!) and outs of the insurance world, creating his own empire. And here’s his daughter, doing something similar and maybe she didn’t reject everything he had to teach her, sure most of what she’s accomplished is solely on her but maybe a little bit is because of him. Maybe she listened a little more than he thought.
The reason why he left Luke the money to franchise the diner was because, just in case, he wanted Luke to be able to take care of Lorelai. But Lorelai is his legacy, not Luke–Lorelai taking care of herself, eagerly establishing her own empire, creating something great and lasting. And maybe his daughter is more like him than he thought after all.
With all due respect to your opinions, I’d like to point out that Richard was grooming Luke with golf and franchising to make him tolerable to the elder Gilmore society. He was very clear about that and rarely to never changed his snobby positions. So I would claim the legacy is a combination of “Luke still hasn’t done what I told him to do” and “I still know better.”
It displeased me when there was no Revival discussion about inheritance for either Rory or Lorelai. If they had gotten something earlier, it sure doesn’t show up in their lifestyle. Money was as poorly handled in the Revival as in the OS. I fanwanked Rory having plenty to live off of from her father and an unmentioned amount from Richard, and her complaints were simply those of someone who needs to complain about something.
I remain mystified by Lorelai’s situation. It remains conceivable that she had a small Richard legacy and frittered it away on celebrity chefs as she wished for Sookie to return, but, well, I don’t think so.
I am so tired of people on Facebook lumping Lorelai and Anna into the same pot of “bad moms who keep their kids from their dads,” claiming that Lorelai is a horrible person because Chris wasn’t an active part of Rory’s childhood, and that she kept him away because she didn’t want to co-parent. The worst one was this one:
“110 % unfortunately the mom has the say in if the childs dad is in the kids life. Then people see him not there and blame him. Well trust me there is more to it than that. And with Lor she wanted her own way. No matter who it hurt.“
OK, sweetie, let me tell you a thing.
Lorelai told Chris about Rory as soon as she found out she was pregnant. She always left the door open for Chris to be an active parent, and it was Chris who chose to not be one until Rory was older. She didn’t want to marry, but she did clearly think he would be involved. Chris had a choice. He knew where to find Lorelai and Rory. Lorelai never slammed the door in Chris’ face when he showed up. When she needed him for the debutante ball, she had to hunt down his new phone number because he changed it without telling her. What a sterling example of fatherhood. Anna never gave Luke a choice. She never told him that he had a child. How long would Luke had gone not knowing about April had she not done the science project? It was clear that Anna never had any intention of telling Luke, nor did she have any remorse once he found out. Initially, she even told Luke they didn’t need him, and that didn’t sit right with him. April was his daughter, and he wanted to own up to his responsibilities. So what does Anna do next? Become entirely unreasonable regarding Lorelai then forces Luke to fight for partial custody of April. You can still even see hints of this control in the revival, when Luke is the one solely bearing responsibility for April’s college education. Lorelai offered to toss in money and Luke told her no, but I get the impression it’s because Anna would have a fit if Lorelai was involved in any way. It’s clear the Ls had this conversation at least once prior to revival. Anna’s dislike of Lorelai shows in the distance between Lorelai and April when she’s an adult. Anna certainly didn’t want Lorelai around in 2006, and I would not be shocked if she didn’t want Lorelai around in 2016 and is using microaggresions and the custody agreement (even though April is now an adult) to keep Lorelai from being involved. Luke is the dad that Chris should had been, but he was never given the chance to be so. I think had Luke known about April from the start, he would had been a huge part of her life whether or not he was married to Anna. That’s the type of man he is.
If Chris really wanted to be there though, he would have fought for custody like Luke did. Anna tried to block Luke and he got the courts involved. If Chris felt that strongly about being an active father in Rory’s life, he would have gotten the courts involved as well, no matter what his parents thought. He wouldn’t have gone to California, he would have stayed in Connecticut. There were ways to handle the whole co-parenting thing without marriage, and he didn’t take any of them. So no “oh poor little Chris” for me.
Great post and accurate thinking on the things unsaid about Anna in the Revival. I would add that had Chris been half the father he should have been, Lorelai would have been easily convinced to marry him early on.
Amusing and sweet fic by The Eye of the Oncoming Storm
A finish from savvyliterate for her Harvard road trip story. Fabulous and surprising ending, with the promise of a sequel.
It got me emotionally through chemo.
This story packs more humor in a few words than I could imagine. Laughing my ass off here.
luke/lorelai + gilmore kitchen kisses
Maybe I’m just in a mushy mood this morning, but this sweet and funny story brought happy tears to my eyes .
#and then when rory finally accepts there's no naked #that's the time when there's actual naked Omg! I thought of that too. But no one wrote a naughty fic about that. Can you please? Pretty please?
“Mom?”
“Hey, kid! Make it to the land of corn in one piece?”
“I’m in Iowa, not Nebraska.”
“There’s corn in Iowa!”
“I think it’s better known for the potatoes. Look, I just wanted to make sure you were OK.”
“Yeah, why wouldn’t I be OK?”
“Because it’s you.”
Lorelai gasped and pressed a hand to her chest. “I can’t believe the words coming out of your mouth.”
“Look, I know how hard it is for us to be separated, and I just want to make sure that you’re not alone,” Rory quickly replied. “It’s been a rough year, and I know we wanted more time together before I left.”
“Don’t worry, kid, I’m not alone.”
“Luke’s there?”
Lorelai turned her head to the side, smiling gently. “Yeah.”
Rory’s sigh of relief was audible over the phone. “Thank goodness. I mean, I knew you two are going to work things out, and I know Dad won’t get in the way now.”
“What, no naked jokes?”
Rory snorted. “Please. I know better now than to ask if Luke’s naked in our kitchen.”
“OK.” Lorelai cast her gaze to the ceiling, then around the kitchen where various items of clothing were flung, then at the sated man lightly dozing at her side. She couldn’t repress the giggle and the absurd thought that linoleum was really hard on bare skin.
Rory’s silence spoke volumes. “Wait a minute. Mom. Mom, is Luke naked in our kitchen?”
Lorelai just smirked. “Love you, kid!”
“No, Mom, answer me for real! I mean it! Mom? Mom!” Rory yelled as Lorelai snapped her phone close, turned the ringer off, and tossed it somewhere in the direction of the living room as it began to vibrate.
“Is Rory OK?” Luke murmured in a sleepy voice.
She rolled on top of him. “She’s among the potatoes and potentially scarred for life.” She pushed herself into a sitting position. “Meanwhile, I’m thinking dessert. I’ll start right here.” She leaned forward to lave her tongue against the pulse in his neck to start round two of extremely hot kitchen make-up sex.
my favorite moment
the whole show
The man to whom nothing meant more than family…who hardly had a family…except for this boy. The boy who…hide it though he might…only ever wanted to be loved…and the one person who truly loved him.
It breaks my heart. And mends it.
Some of the best of Luke danes.
Hello! What are your fave L&L smuts? Long fics, one shots, anything! Just please make a list as many as possible!
HELLO, I AM HERE FOR THIS.
There is one I am missing, but my Kobo is misplaced at the moment, so I can’t get the story title off there. However:
And by popular request, here are smutty stories that I have written:
Seven short stories, all LL, nice and fluffy
A great Jason date one-shot, with a touch of angst. Probably the best and true-to-Lorelai reaction to their first date I ever read. Probably violated some tumblr etiquette by not waiting until @brittaden posted it herself. Oops. Sorry.
