I mean, realistically, though, Solas should be downright terrible at wilderness survival.

He’s woken up to an ecosystem that, between time passing and the impact of the Veil, is fundamentally different from the one he developed the vast majority of his practical skills in. Any survival expert can tell you that not knowing the region, the plants or terrain or wildlife’s behaviour, puts you at a huge disadvantage for this kind of a thing. Considering that Solas has only been awake for a year pre-Inquisition, and that during that time he was devoting a lot of his efforts towards manipulating Corypheus and just figuring out what the general hell was going on, I don’t think even he would have a lot of time to familiarize himself with all the changes to the regional flora and fauna.

Ever since that thought occurred to me, all I can think of now is Solas nearly eating raw berries that require special prep to not be poisonous (because he knows these berries go in pies, so logically, he thinks they’re safe). Solas forgetting that he can’t just ask spirits for directions when he’s lost and wandering way the hell off from the rest of the group with no means of finding his way back. Solas trying to cast a rain-repelling charm that would ordinarily last for 24 hours and instead only keeps up for fifteen minutes, and leaves him feeling unreasonably exhausted. Solas not knowing what the fuck to do about blisters because he’s so used to his ambient magic just… protecting his feet entirely.

(Solas also having no idea what to do when he eats something slightly off and gets wicked diarrhea, sitting in the bush wondering if he’s facing the ignoble end of shitting himself to death as he tries to reason out the right healing spells that could work…)

Lavellan just looking at this man and squinting because somehow he has ostensibly survived to adulthood while living in the wilderness, mostly on his own, but damned if she can see how.
