Alright! That sucked!
Currently some very scary people are slated to take over two of the three branches of government.
We can’t do much about the executive for four years, which sucks, but we can do something about the legislature.
In 2018 there are 33 SENATE SEATS UP FOR GRABS, ALONG WITH ALL 435 HOUSE SEATS.
36 of 50 Governors will be up for re-election.
You need to vote in the midterm elections!
One of the most productive things you can do right now is register to vote and sign up for an absentee ballot.
Tumblr is a very young population, and very mobile. We move around a LOT–for school, for jobs, for relationships, etc. So an absentee ballot is great way of ensuring that you stay ready to vote even if you have to move for school.
Just make sure that you either have the ballot sent to a family member you can trust to forward it to you in the mail, or that you keep your current mailing address updated in the system.
And remember–2018 matters!
One silver lining of the election night on Tuesday is the amount of women of color in the U.S. Senate quadrupled with three big wins in California, Illinois and Nevada. Their bios are seriously impressive.
I hope we can all hold on to this anger until the mid term elections
“Not all white people are racist.” “Not all men are sexist.”
deep breaths.
This made me a bit happy
A PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION SHOULD NOT LEAVE PEOPLE SOBBING IN FEAR FOR THEIR LIVES AND THE LIVES OF THE PEOPLE THEY LOVE
for my poc followers, i understand it’s tiring to hear about so if you need respite from everything that’s happening, please download tumblr savior and block my “us elections” tag. new xkit’s blacklist extension is also a great way to block posts but still have an option to see them should you ever feel like you’re in the headspace to view it. i will post less election stuff and more happy things (sometimes).
this is not for white allies. you were too complacent. you need to see and feel and think about how your peers, friends, followers, and families fucked this up. and then act up, speak out against them, make sure they know that this shit is not okay. activism is full-time, not nitpicking opportunities for self-validation and self-congratulating that you’re “one of the good ones.” that’s not how it works.
Alright, folks.
2018 is the midterm elections. Mark your calendars and set your alarms bc those people, more than the President, will be determining your livelihood. They determine the budget. They allocate the funds. They are super fucking important.
Let this bullshit serve as a springboard.
i’ve been awake for less than 15minutes and already i’ve had 2 offers to crash at my canadian friends houses, i was woken up by loud eminem songs being blasted by my white supremacist neighbor, and my mother truly believing an oompa loompa will “make america great again.” it’s not safe here but i’m gonna be louder, more obnoxious, and unapologetic in my activism while being as safe as i can. i’ll give them hell these next 4 years and make them regret ever letting that ogre step into the oval office.
Just in case y'all were wondering how's Mexico doing...
Our coin went from 18 pesos to 21.50 pesos a dollar (and will probably reach 22.50), our products and services will be more expensive by the morning. No one will want to invest here. We’re humiliated, we were called rapists and apparently most of you agree. We’re threatened to be separated by a wall… Do you have idea how many millions of families will be separated? How many children will see their parents being deported? The violence migrants will receive? How deeply your economy will be affected? Old and young, we have our heads down, we don’t know what to expect. But thanks for making it clear, one more time, how hated we are for most of you.
But these same racist fucking assholes that voted for Trump will vacation in Cabo and Cancun
you’ll never catch me standing for the national anthem or pledge of allegiance ever again
exhausted by how much america hates women
bc thats what it is. no one wanted to like her, no one wanted to trust her. people who supported her kept having to add the disclaimer that they didn’t really want her in power, she was just the ~lesser of two evils~
the republican smear campaign against her worked bc people love to hate women
and it doesnt matter how good they are at what they do. doesnt matter that she’s the most competent person to run for president maybe ever. ppl would rather see a dangerous, unstable, bigoted lunatic in the white house than a woman. ppl who voted for bernie would rather switch their support to gary johnson – whose platform is much closer to trump’s than it is to bernie’s – than support the woman who beat their old white fav. trump is winning bc he’s running against a woman, and the misogynist masses would give literally anyone but her the win
this is so funny because i, personally, am exhausted by how much white women love to claim the victim narrative. wake up, girl. it’s black women who are driving the gender gap against trump… white women are voting him in by a majority (:
no person of colour gives a shit about whether or not hillary is or was likable–many of us voted for her despite disliking her because we were scared shitless of the other option. it is genuinely shocking to me that you would implicate black and latino men in this when it was white people all along.
it wasn’t about the republican smear campaign against her–it was the racism and bigotry donald trump campaigned with that appealed to white voters.
get this into your head: it wasn’t about her being a woman except peripherally. it was about race. white voters weren’t voting against clinton–they were voting for trump, for racism, for the deportation of muslims and latinxs. sear this chart into your little eyeballs and TAKE SOME FUCKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT.
