Honestly, my favorite thing at the moment is all the marvel headcanons where Hela wasn’t cray-cray homicidal, and she’s an overprotective bitchy sister.
I fucking love everything about this post
Okay, so Ragnarok. Tell me about that. Walk me through it.

Creed’s Tessa Thompson is Thor’s New Love Interest
GT reports: Natalie Portman won’t be coming back to reprise the role in the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok.[…] But it looks like her loss is fans’ gain, because Creed star Tessa Thompson (Dear White People, Selma) is stepping in to the new movie as Thor’s love interest.
Thompson isn’t going to be playing Jane Foster. Deadline says she’ll be “kind of a superhero,” and she’ll show up in other Marvel movies as well. Will she play The Enchantress, or maybe her sister, Lorelei? Let the speculation begin!
Why does she have to be the love interest? Why can’t she just be Awesome. Sigh. Not every movie needs a love interest.
Because a Black woman playing a love interest (especially in a superhero movie) is groundbreaking representation for Black women.
Sources tell Deadline that Thompson’s character in Thor: Ragnarok will be a kind of superhero and will appear in other Marvel films as well.
So a superhero AND a love interest. And one with staying power! I am relieved to hear that she’ll be around for other films.
welp now i have a reason to finally see thor
When Women Take Over: Lessons from Thor
The internet has been abuzz lately with the news that the new Thor comic book series, helmed by a woman who takes over the titular role as the goddess of thunder, has been outselling it’s male predecessor by about 30%. Fans have been passionately invested in the new series, critics have praised it, and feminists have been laughing their asses off at the misogynistic anti-feminist wing of the nerd community that attacked the series. There’s no revenge sweeter than critical and commercial success.
Thor’s success offers up some important lessons about how to handle a woman taking over the lead role in a traditionally male-led franchise…
Is that why it’s inital readership has dropped more than 50% since it began?
Why its sales have dropped by almost as much?
Because people like it so much?
Dude, if you’re trying to come across as a data savvy comics fan, you might want to have actual data on your side.
When I said the new woman Thor was outselling the previous male Thor by 30%, I didn’t mean that sales for the first issue were 30% higher and then everyone abandoned the series. Sales have, on average, been 30% higher for each issue.
Both versions of Thor experienced the same drop in sales after their initial issue, approximately 41% for each. This is actually pretty common for comic books, and indeed, for most episodic media. The first issue/episode/etc. gets really high numbers, and then the audience falls over time.
Furthermore, once the audience for the new Thor fell and stabilized, it was still higher than the audience for the previous Thor. The estimated sales for Thor Issue #6 (released in March of this year) are over 70,000, which is still higher than sales for the previous Thor’s second issue.
And here’s a handy chart, if you prefer to see the data for yourself.
I’d recommend seeing the full chart over on Fusion’s website, which let’s you hover over each issue represented and see exact sales numbers.
TL;DR: Your argument relies on out-of-context, deliberately misinterpreted data and you should feel bad.
It’s more of Marvel said they wanted new female superheroes, so they did the laziest thing they could & made one of they’re most popular ones a woman. It’s not because it’s a woman, it’s bad because it’s extremely lazy.
“It’s lazy because I said so and personally don’t like it.” Great argument there.
No, like I said, it’s lazy because if they wanted more female super heroes, then they should have made some, not just “oh, you see this guy. He’s a girl now. No real reason” And obviously they don’t have a problem when it comes to making super heroes. But they just decided to half ass it & do no work.
Okay, normally after a certain point I start ignoring the silly comments that are added onto my posts, but you’re almost exactly repeating lines from the comic said by a villain.
Believing that a lazy feminist conspiracy was behind the decision to make the new Thor a woman was literally so silly and ridiculous that they gave that line to a Marvel villain.
I think the argument “Building upon a pre-existing character is lazy, you should make your own!” is particularly hilarious considering that this is Thor we’re talking about. There hasn’t been an original version of Thor for over a thousand years.
