i got Pretty Woman’d last friday

i went into nordstrom yesterday to see if i could get my hands on the tommy x zendaya zodiac satin shirt (looks like this). i’ve been saving up and i just appreciate her so much for her commitment to bringing inclusivity to fashion—and just in general—i wanted a piece of her artistry in my wardrobe. the treatment i got was just—OHHHH BOY.

Alternatives to Hot Topic

REAL TALK: WE ALL NEED TO STOP SHOPPING AT HOT TOPIC

THEY STEAL ART

THEIR SIZING IS PRETTY RIDICULOUS.

THEY QUIT SELLING GOTH AND PUNK SHIT ALTOGETHER.

AND THIS LATEST SHIT STORM

MARKETING ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIPS. HOW LOVELY.

Hot topic went down the shitter long ago and it’s time to find a new place to get your totally awesome fandom inspired t-shirts and goth gear. Here are some sites where you can get your expressive clothing without feeding into this corporate shit monster of a store. Most if not all of the art on these sites are posted by the original artist. (I’m not sure about the goth stuff, you might have to check, some are brand name though so it should be fine)

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ADD TO THIS LIST!

Dracula Clothing [link]

Living Dead Clothing [link]

Iron Fist Clothing [link]

Sourpuss Clothing [link]

There’s more, but yeah.

Man I knew my knowledge of fashion would be useful one day.

also they heterosexualized the art so, not even gonna mention

this is terrible and a shitty result of capitalism, disrespect for the art field, etc. i’m gonna sound like a broken record but if your art is on sites like deviantart, they own the rights to your piece, you give them permission to alter it, and dA can sell it to third-party (like Hot Topic)—they even own your name (source). please DO NOT post your art on sites like deviantart. they’ve had a long history of art theft and unethical rules.

if you can afford to buy a $30 shirt with a political slogan (”nasty woman” and “not my president” and many other catchphrases relevant to the current political climate) you can afford to check who’s selling them. just who are you giving your hard earned cash to. there are far too many opportunistic white people, opportunistic straight men and opportunistic corporations trying to capitalize off our need to protest. don’t help them.

here’s a link to a “stay nasty” shirt ($15) and a “not my president” shirt ($20) both of which donate all proceeds to planned parenthood

If you’re not sure if a company supports Israel, download the app buycott and join the “Long Live Palestine Boycott Israel” campaign then just scan any barcode and it’ll tell you if it donates too Israel or not!

The Arabic equivalent is قاطع! Only that app’s wholy dedicated to identifying Israeli goods and providing Palestinian or local substitues!

Public service announcement: Please don’t support Urban Outfitters, not only do they constantly cause controversy with racism, and glorifying mental illness, but they’re ridiculously overpriced. I know you like their stuff but there are ((more affordable)) alternatives.  I get all my stuff at ameliastardust and it’s all great quality and not only is she not problematic but she’s a fellow tumblr user, so please just save your money and support actual good small stores like this.

attention @ everyone who cares about animals!!!!!!!!!!

tl;dr: do NOT buy this brand of flea medicine. always do research before buying any kind of medication for your animals.

my boyfriend bought this at petsmart for our cat and when we put it on her, she started licking it bc i guess i accidentally placed it too low and he got worried so we’ve been on google to find out if it’ll harm her. we found some scary stuff.

it doesn’t happen to every cat that this product is used on, but there are reports of this product seriously hurting cats. it burns their skin and can be very painful. the screenshots above are reviews from amazon for the one in the blue box. the one we used is the one in the purple box.

some cats had reactions right away while others took a few hours. we put this on our cat about an hour ago (washed it off of her soon after) and she seems fine but we’re so worried about what could happen. even if nothing happens, this is a chance we never would had taken if we’d known.

ALWAYS RESEARCH BEFOREHAND. i can’t believe petsmart has this on their shelves after everything people have said about it. please spread the word by sharing this post! protect ur pets. a simple google search could have stopped all these cats from getting hurt.

my sister used to work at petsmart and the reason why they have products like this on their shelves is due to something called voluntary recalls. it allows companies to slip away undetected if they catch something hazardous/defective with their product before the government does. they give a “voluntary recall” notice to the retailers and government branch in charge and, because it was voluntary, they are allowed to continue selling it. if memory serves, it is up to the product manufacturer/distributor to post a clear notice for the public.

for example: purina has TONS of voluntarily recalled items and their only ‘notice’ is a small list available only to employees at petsmart or a little stamp somewhere near the stack of the recalled item that says “this product was voluntarily recalled.”

mandatory recalls” occur when the government catches the defects in the product first and posts a public notice, forcing retailers to take it off of their shelves. remember that this isn’t just products at petsmart. this is applicable to every product nationwide, from cars to paperclips, so be sure to research public recall lists according to the product type (example: fda regulates food-related products)!
