Have you guys heard about Chou Tzuyu/Zhou Ziyu/周子瑜? She's a 16yo Taiwanese KPOP star who was given a Taiwan flag by staff at a Korean show. This was screenshot by Huang An, who went on Weibo to claim Tzuyu supports Taiwanese independence. Result Chinese netizens have been threatening to ban her company from China, and all her schedules in China have been cancelled. She recently made a video apologizing saying she supports One China (which sounds unlike her) it's really gross the whole situation.

Yeah I don’t even keep up with KPOP stuff but like this is really ugly and complicated tbh. Historically Korea has supported as One China Policy but obviously lol kpop isn’t a political entity but I thought it’d just be worth saying. China is super aggressive about Taiwan = China which it has almost no political or historical grounds for making claims on. Just because ethinically Hokkian people came from to Taiwan to colonize it doesn’t make them Chinese in the long run l m a o. I hate to draw comparisons like this but are Americans still considered fundamentally British because the people who colonized America were originally from the UK?!

And like why shouldn’t she be holding a Taiwanese flag if she’s from fucking Taiwan???????????

Anyway it’s obvious that she was forced to make that statement and the PRC is fucking ugly to Taiwan and HK. 台灣就是台灣啊！🇹🇼🇹🇼🇹🇼🇹🇼🇹🇼🇹🇼🇹🇼🇹🇼🇹🇼
