I feel like this is a very important thread considering a lot of people cut Hollywood abusers a lot of slack just because “they’re work is very good and entertaining”. There are plenty of other Hollywood actresses/actors that don’t pull off gross shit like this, support them instead…. At the end of the day, we need to put the victims first and stop letting this shit slide.

TW for rape, sexual abuse

The way Johnny Depp and now the media is treating Amber Heard because she is bisexual only solidifies the point that even when we are in “het passing” relationships we are not suddenly just as privileged as straight people. Bisexual women experience the highest rates of sexual violence (50%) and we are likely to have our sexuality used as a way to demonize us in many of those cases. Bi women still experience homophobia and biphobia in a multitude of ways ALL THE TIME, even if their partner is a cis man. Unless we choose to actively closet ourselves from our partner and the world around us but that’s a whole other conversation about how being closeted isn’t a privilege lol it’s very painful and isolating !!! Okay anyways I just want people to acknowledge that biphobia is very real and very dangerous and actually take bi people seriously when we talk about it.

Society: Why don’t people speak up about domestic violence? Why do they suffer in silence instead of seeking help?

Amber Heard: Provides photographic evidence, verbal accounts, and a police complaint to prove that Johnny Depp abused her. Files for divorce and a restraining order to prevent further domestic violence.

Society: “innocent until proven guilty”, “don’t jump to conclusions”, “we don’t know the full story”, “don’t believe everything you see on the media”, “he doesn’t seem like that type of guy”, “she’s a gold digger”, “she just wants his money”

There are more charts if you click through.

I’m so glad this info graphic is going around, because so many people don’t realize how ageism and misogyny play hand in hand and how the sexualization of young girls play into this.

Santoine: This is an important graph I felt you all should see and understand

Hollywood eventually came calling. Kim was approached by various writers and producers who wanted to adapt her story, frequently inserting male characters in savior roles. “They wanted to keep the Asian girl,” Kim recounts, “but have someone like Russell Crowe or Johnny Depp to play an undercover cop or a customer and go after these people, and he meets Eden and he’s so captivated. First of all, I never had a love story like that …” Kim begins. Chung chimes in, “I love how men love to romanticize being a customer and then falling in love and rescuing the girl. It’s like, that shit never happens. Noble guys don’t go to brothels.”

An excerpt from KoreAM magazine’s interview of Chong Kim and actress Jamie Chung.Jamie Chung stars in “Eden,” a film based on Chong Kim’s experiences as an Asian American teen who was sold into a sex ring. When Hollywood grew attracted to Kim’s true story, producers wanted to insert a white male savior figure.

Thankfully, “Eden” was made independently with a meaty role for an Asian American actress still intact. The film has earned accolades at SXSW and has found international distribution…but has not managed to find a movie studio to support distributing it in the United States.

#Jack Sparrow: Accepting You for Whatever Gender You Decide to Be Since 2003

“Or whatever”….hmmm, I like that better than the “Other” gender alternative popping up on more paperwork and forms…. =D

"Whatever" still seems as dismissive as "other," especially when paired with that gesture. Unless "whatever" is the only option. But I will admit that this is better than others who completely exclude genders outside of "boys and girls."
