Transphobia is so antithetical to genuine feminism it blows my mind there's such a wide overlap like you either believe in autonomy and self determination or you don't

This shouldn't be hidden in tags!

Image ID:

#you can't reconcile the feminist idea that men and women are equals with acting like they're different species

#the feminist idea that women are more than their reproductive systems with the one that womanhood is defined by a reproductive system

#the feminist idea that women don't need to adhere to arbitrary standards of femininity with the one that they do or they aren't women

#the feminist idea that women are allowed to have body hair and be tall or muscular with the one that they're to be scrutinized if they are

#the feminist idea that women as equals to men should be allowed to compete with them with the one that both must always be separated

#i can not consider terfism to be feminism in any fucking way

#and don't say 'no true scotsman' that's not it

#i don't consider feminists for the same reason i don't consider the democratic people's republic of korea a democracy #or nazism socialism. having feminist in their name does not mean their ideas are automatically feminist

#i've yet to meet a terf that actually cares about women more than about hating on trans folk

#there is no feminist belief that can come from someone who views women as vaginas with legs that are too frail to do anything men do

The United States continues to embarrass.

The delegates were appalled by the lack of gender equality in America. They found the U.S. to be lagging far behind international human rights standards in a number of areas, including its 23 percent gender pay gap, maternity leave, affordable child care and the treatment of female migrants in detention centers.
The most telling moment of the trip, the women told reporters on Friday, was when they visited an abortion clinic in Alabama and experienced the hostile political climate around women’s reproductive rights.
“We were harassed. There were two vigilante men waiting to insult us,” said Frances Raday, the delegate from the U.K. The men repeatedly shouted, “You’re murdering children!” at them as soon as they neared the clinic, even though Raday said they are clearly past childbearing age.
“It’s a kind of terrorism,” added Eleonora Zielinska, the delegate from Poland. “To us, it was shocking.”
In most European countries, she explained, abortions are performed at general doctors’ offices and hospitals that offer all kinds of other health services, so there aren’t protesters waiting to heckle the women who enter.
The women discovered during their visit that women in the United States have “missing rights” compared to the rest of the world. For instance, the U.S. is one of three countries in the world that does not guarantee women paid maternity leave. The U.N. suggests that countries guarantee at least 14 weeks of paid parental leave. Some countries go further – Iceland requires five months paid leave for each parent, and an additional two months to be shared between them.
“The lack of accommodation in the workplace to women’s pregnancy, birth and post-natal needs is shocking,” Raday said. “Unthinkable in any society, and certainly one of the richest societies in the world.”
Another main area of concern for the delegation is violence against women – particularly gun violence. Women are 11 times more likely to be killed by a gun in the United States than in other high-income countries, and most of those murdersare perpetrated by an intimate partner. While the Obama administration has talked a lot about combatting violence against women, its efforts have been frustrated by Congress’ inability to pass new federal gun restrictions.

While the delegates were shocked by many things they saw in the U.S., perhaps the biggest surprise of their trip, they said, was learning that women in the country don’t seem to know what they’re missing. “So many people really believe that U.S. women are way better off with respect to rights than any woman in the world,” Raday said. “They would say, ‘Prove it! What do you mean other people have paid maternity leave?’”

The US is so far behind in women’s rights, people don’t even believe that other countries allow Paid. Maternity. Leave. Good lord.

But “feminism isn’t needed in the first world!”

For starters: Paid maternity leave isn’t a right, your employer shouldn’t have to pay for your getting nutted in. As a father, that’s my responsibility. If not mine then the mothers. Pfft. The UN has Saudi Arabia leading the Human Rights council, who the fuck is the UN to set a standard?

We’re also not Europe and not bound to the UN by any means. We are sovereign. These same morons want to open OUR borders to the world while we pay for everything they and the globe might need

The UN can fuck right off with their socialist bullshit

^^^^^ these last two comments

UN and Euro assholes with chips on their shoulder find that the UNITED STATES IS SO DAMN BEHIND AND INFERIOR

Color me SHOCKED, SHOCKED I TELL YOU.

Don’t pay attention to @daloy-politsey they don’t know that women in FIRST WORLD COUNTRIES are equal already. Also as stated I shouldn’t be paid for getting pregnat, how does that make sense to anyone? Men or women shouldn’t be paid for having kids, like nope.

Lol. It doesn’t make sense to you because you’re a capitalist. Just like every other feminist that is actually good, I’m anti capitalist.

Basic human rights that keep people alive isn’t debatable you fucking capitalist shitheads.

Paid maternity leave prevents infantile death and reduces postpartum depression you asshats.

fingers crossed for ‘everywhere else’ soon

i know OP wants to make a joke about it but this is actually a real problem in china where they will censor and hide everything from their people that will give even a slight hint of information that would lead to a rebellion. china’s treatment of their people barely even offer basic freedom human rights and i’m pretty sure why they blocked tumblr is much of the main topics talks about human equality and the LGBT+ community.

this article is from a writer who wanted to have one of his books translated in chinese

also this article that’s been getting some views, the abduction of employees from a hong kong bookstore that sold books critical towards mainland china

I wish people didn’t make joke about issues like this. Like, a few months ago, the ministry of communication in Indonesia was going to block stuff like Tumblr, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Line, Whatsapp, etc. First they said it was because people can find porn in those social media, but then they said it was because those social media corporations don’t pay taxes because they have so many users in Indonesia. Some even assume that it was because those social media are LGBT supporters or you can find LGBT related stuff in them. And it’s not like the ministry haven’t blocked anything anyway. They’ve already blocked stuff like reddit, fanfiction dot net, vimeo, etc. Then, just a few days ago, there’s an organization that demands the ministry to block Google and YouTube in Indonesia. So you see? I know that people often joke about tumblr as a website (like saying “haha yeah this trash website should be gone”), but this is a serious problem.

Brain teasers for egalitarians/equalists.

Say I’m 32 years old and you’re 22 years old.

In how many years will we be the same age?

Silly question, right? If you define aging as a process that stops at death, the only way we’ll ever be the same age is if I die first. If you don’t, then we’ll never be the same age. Every time you age a year, I also age a year. Since our ages increase at the same rate, you will never catch up to my head start. We have achieved a total equality of aging, but that does not change the permanent inequality of our age.

Okay, say I have a million dollars and you’re completely broke. If we both get a dollar a day, how long will it take you to catch up with me?

Now, this one’s even sillier, because if you have no other resources, your dollar a day is going to be eaten up by basic living expenses that it doesn’t quite meet, and I have an excess of money that can be spent on money-making opportunities that pay off far better than an additional $365 a year. I could literally burn the dollar I’m getting as part of our Totally Equal Income and still make more money in a year than you do just by sticking my money in the bank.

But still: both of us getting a dollar a day is totally equal, right? It means we’re being treated exactly the same.

And now, final problem:

If we have a world that contains structural inequalities, systemic imbalances, disproportionate danger faced by some, and unequal access to resources and opportunities, is “treating everyone the same” really going to result in equality?

Show your work.

I may have reblogged this already but I don’t care it’s important.

Girls Have Everything In Their Purse

Meech: “Hey, I’m ashy as hell. You got some lotion?”

Girl: “Yeah, lemme check my purse. Here you go.”

Meech: “Thanks. I’m hungry as hell. You tryna get some food?”

Girl: “You want some pizza?”

Meech: “Actually, I’d love some pizza!”

Girl: “Here you go. I got some pizza in my purse.”

Meech: “Did you just pull this whole pizza box out your purse?”

Girl: “And then when you done, if you want something to drink I got some lemonade.”

Meech: “What don’t you have in your purse?”

Girl: “I pretty much got everything.”

Meech: “You got equality for minorities in America in your purse?”

Girl: “Now, I know I said I got everything, but you’re not gonna find that nowhere in America.”

spoiler from 2015: still no equality

Yea Idk when certain African Americans will proceed to learn that not all Caucasian Americans are racist. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

you know what? I left this really vague because it can apply to so many things (women’s rights, gay rights, trans rights, poc rights…), and your racist ass decided to pull a #notallwhites on me, like why do you even feel the need to defend yourself if you’ve done nothing wrong?

As a feminist

As a feminist I think women should also be drafted if necessary.

As a feminist I think women should not be given a lighter sentence compared to a man who did the same crime.

As a feminist I think female abusers should be held at the same level as male abusers

As a feminist I think male rape victims are just as equal as female rape victims and deserve the same attention.

As a feminist I believe in complete equality between genders even if that equality isn’t always “beneficial” to me

As a feminist, I believe very strongly that NO ONE should be drafted, and that the military is a horrible waste of our time and of people’s lives at the gross expense of other people’s sovereignty and dignity. The wars that this countries wages are inherently capitalistic, imperialist, and violent as hell.

As a feminist, I know mass incarceration is a deeply racialized issue that disproportionately affects communities of color and poor folk. So the solution “Just incarcerate women more too!” is fucking terrifying and gross to me, especially when we look at rates and reasons for incarceration and how unjust and unfair they are, and how, thanks to the school to prision pipeline, some people don’t ever have a chance outside of it.. End the prison industrial complex!

As a feminist, I am willing and able to check my privilege and mindfully talk about rape culture, sexual assault, and abuse as a patriarchy/power/at times gendered phenomena without being gender essentialist, transphobic, or erasing victims of any gender. I understand that male rape victims being affected by rape culture is STILL a product of patriarchy.

As a feminist, I don’t think gaining equality in inherently violent social constructs and institutions is the solution. How could a Black queer female CEO make the position of CEOS less violent just because it has been made “diverse”? Rather, I wish for emancipation from those systems for all people, justice for all people, and a destruction of any systems of abuse, not just a restructuring of them.

Traditional Celtic marriage vows, better than anything I've ever heard:

You cannot possess me for I belong to myself But while we both wish it, I give you that which is mine to give You cannot command me, for I am a free person But I shall serve you in those ways you require and the honeycomb will taste sweeter coming from my hand.

But there’s more of it? I pledge to you that yours will be the name I cry aloud in the night. And the eyes into which I smile in the morning. I pledge to you the first bite from my meat, And the first drink from my cup. I pledge to you my living and dying, equally in your care, And tell no strangers our grievances. This is my wedding vow to you. This is a marriage of equals.

Why I need feminism

*driving home*

Me: Let’s see what’s on the radio.

DJ: “It’s a tragic day for all men today—Leonard Nimoy died. Most boys had a Star Trek phase growing up. You girls probably have trouble telling the difference between Star Wars and Star Trek, but trust me, it’s a big deal that he’s gone.”

Me: …

Me: Seriously? What year is this?

Leonard Nimoy is rolling in his fucking grave

Avatar

Fake geek boys don’t even know that women are why Star Trek got on air to begin with (Lucille Ball of Desilu productions!), women are why it stayed on air (fangirls writing letters to Paramount & NBC keep it from getting dropped!), women ran the first conventions (Joan Winston!) and women wrote the first guidebooks (Bjo Trimble!).

Fake geek boys don’t know that Leonard Nimoy was an outspoken feminist who campaigned to get equal pay for the female actors on the show, and who after his Star Trek days continued to advance feminist goals like fat body acceptance.

Star Trek is women’s territory. Get the fuck outta my sci-fi, fake geek boys, and take your ignorant sexism with you.

i used to think it was fun and interesting to get into debates about feminism or racism, or in general challenge people’s bigotry and prejudice and call them out. but recently it’s become a burden. it’s a chore now. i no longer want to debate about whether or not i should have basic human rights, this shouldn’t even be a fucking issue anymore. i no longer go into these discussions with an open mind and a light-hearted demeanor, now i’m fucking furious. i should not have to defend my humanity at every single step, repeatedly and constantly. i’m done.
