This is IMPORTANT! And she specifically said she would never push herself that far again. I hope folks paid attention to that part too
Sometimes you eat more than usual.
Sometimes you eat less than usual.
That’s how it works.
Chill.
i never wanna see this BS again god
Listen, no matter what your fave youtuber/”health guru” says, the following things are absolute bullshit:
- Juice cleanses do not do anything health-wise! Except probably lead to you getting insufficient calories for the duration! There is nothing to “cleanse”, because…
- Your body does not have a “build up of toxins” you can detox away. Either your liver and kidneys are sorting shit out, or you’re experiencing severe health problems and should see a doctor. In particular, the idea you have a build up of heavy metal in your cells is ABSURD. Trust me. You’d know. “Toxins” is a word with no legal definition which is therefore not monitored in advertising. It means nothing.
- Detox/weight loss teas are just mild laxatives. I wish people would stop advertising these things. I know we’re all broke and want that sponsership, but they’re not good things.
- Something being vegan, gluten-free, “all natural”, etc. does not mean it cannot be bad for you. It does not necessarily mean it is better for you. It just means… it is those things.
- If you ingest more of a nutrient than your body needs, the rest is wasted. It isn’t used by the body. Unless you have a vitamin deficiency, taking supplements is useless. And expensive.
- Oh, and for the record, it’s not dangerous but you don’t need “eight glasses of water a day”. A lot of water comes from the food you eat. Also, any liquid that isn’t as strong a diuretic as, say, alcohol? Works to hydrate you. I mean, staying hydrated is good, but the eight glasses a day thing isn’t true. Just drink when you need water.
#this is all true#plus the tea thing is important#because being on laxatives for that long can actually give you bowel cancer#for serious yep if you wanna drink tea and be healthy just find a type of nice green/herbal tea you like and brew it properly
Friendly reminder that 1200 calories is the recommended amount for a 5 year old
this hit me.
another fact is that 500 calories isn’t even enough for a new born.
why did I go so long convinced that going over 500 in a day was the end of the world?
Another friendly reminder that the United States used 1,000 calorie diets as torture for political prisoners and justified it using the diet industry.
In a footnote to a May 10, 2005, memorandum from the Office of Legal Council, the Bush attorney general’s office argued that restricting the caloric intake of terrorist suspects to 1000 calories a day was medically safe because people in the United States were dieting along those lines voluntarily.
“While detainees subject to dietary manipulation are obviously situated differently from individuals who voluntarily engage in commercial weight-loss programs, we note that widely available commercial weight-loss programs in the United States employ diets of 1000 kcal/day for sustain periods of weeks or longer without requiring medical supervision,” read the footnote. “While we do not equate commercial weight loss programs and this interrogation technique, the fact that these calorie levels are used in the weight-loss programs, in our view, is instructive in evaluating the medical safety of the interrogation technique.”
Another another friendly reminder that the Minnesota Starvation Experiment subjected adult men who were VOLUNTEERS to 1,560 calorie diets and the psychological effects were so profound that one volunteer cut three of his own fingers off and could not remember why.
These men were volunteers who knew exactly what they would be going through and when it would end, and who believed they were doing it for a good and moral reason (the research was used to help rehabilitate victims of starvation and famine at the end of WWII).
And these are the things we are expected to engage in FOREVER to stay at a “healthy” weight.
Reading about the Minnesota Starvation experiment was my wake-up call. It was what kicked me out of my eating disorder. The guy missing three fingers, whatever his name was, he was the last straw for me.
Scared me so fucking bad I stopped restricting my food that day, and never went back to it.
WOW.
I deeply, deeply regret my time counting calories and points.
Stop assigning moral value to foods 2kForever
Cake is not bad, you are not bad if you eat cake. A salad is not good, you are not being good if you eat a salad. Food is food, eating is eating, your moral value isn’t determined by the contents of your digestive system.
Why vegans should use honey instead of agave nectar
Okay, so I might get a lot of hate for this, I might not. I don’t particularly care either way, as long as word gets out about this, because it’s extremely important to me.
As I’m sure most people know by now, bees are disappearing at alarming rates. Simply put, our entire species could not survive without them. This is due to a syndrome called Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD).
Many vegans opt to use agave nectar instead of honey, because agave nectar is plant based. But harvesting of agave nectar is threatening the existence of two other endangered species: Mexican long-nosed bats (who live strictly off of nectars - primarily agave nectar) and the Jaguarundi (a solitary feline who basically looks like a love child between a jungle cat and a ferret.) Approximately 113,126 acres of these animals’ habitat were destroyed from 1991 to 2000, and more has been destroyed since.
On the other hand, beekeepers are essential to increasing bee populations. They monitor the bees’ health and help protect them from dangerous parasites and pesticides that are suspected to cause CCD. In addition, well-kept bees never need to use the amount of honey they produce; Honey is made by the bees to consume only when there is not enough food for them outside the hive. In the care of a good beekeeper, this will only happen during the winter months, and the keeper will leave enough honey for the bees to thrive until it’s spring again.
It’s best to buy local, organic honey if at all possible. Local beekeepers will not use dangerous factory-farming methods, and it helps maintain your local bee population! If you want to help bees in a more active way than buying local honey, you can plant a bee garden or even become a small-scale beekeeper! (I don’t have a link for this, it’s best to check out local resources. Maybe even ask the person selling honey at your farmer’s market!)
This is great info that I never knew about!!
If vegans are so concerned at the inefficiency of raising animals, why don’t they just go outside and eat dirt? It’s free, it doesn’t waste water, it’s good for the environment, and when they die from doing it, the rest of us will fucking cheer.
Meat based diets are incredibly unsustainable. Do you guys know what that means? It literally means you cannot keep eating how you eat right now forever. It means if people keep eating how they do now, they WILL have food security issues, possibly even in their lifetime. There’s already 800 million people starving due to capitalism + allocating food for livestock that could go to humans. How the fuck can you people joke about this? How does your tongue control you that much that you’re willing to risk starving in the future over just learning to find some plant based alternatives you like.
Its not true that diets that include meat are unsustainable. I’m going to use where I’m from as an exple as there have been recurrent famines.
In Somalia Nomadic pastoralists accounted for 50 percent of the population. So nomadic people who herd cattle, goats, camels. These were a source of food as well as a major part of the economy. Livestock contributed to 80 percent of export earnings until 1983. Despite recurrent droughts, Somalia remained virtually self sufficient in food up until the 70s.
What changed? Well the IMF got involved and screwed us over. By enforcing strict austerity measures causing the devaluation of our currency and the inflation of veterinary medicines. They also promoted the privatization of water.
As of the early 1980s, prices for imported livestock drugs increased as a result of the depreciation of the currency. The world bank also promoted the privatizion of veterinary medicine. This was catastrophic to the nomadic pastorilists and herds.
This program was intended to eliminate the nomadic herdsmen. According to the World Bank, “adjustments” in the size of the herds are, in any event, beneficial because nomadic pastoralists in sub-Saharan Africa are narrowly viewed as a cause of environmental degradation.”
So the drought prone region is famine prone when it used to be self sustaining prior to IMF intervention. Blaming “food that could be feeding people to feed animals” for food insecurity is really lazy and simplistic. So yeah meat based diets aren’t inherently insecure. Its made insecure because we have institutions like the world bank and international agribusiness models that will go collapse any industry which is not profiting them

i once saw a post so bad that it left me speechless for like two years. but i’m finally ready to respond.
the post said that fat people have no right to participate in radical politics or anti-classism discussions, because, as they put it “having the money to afford enough food to get fat is the exact opposite of poverty.”
like, i was speechless. that’s literally one of the most ignorant things i’ve ever read.
yep, all those fat people are DEFINITELY rich yuppies who got fat from eating so many $12 bunches of kale from whole foods. and all the thin people are thin because the foods they can afford - such as kraft mac+cheese, top ramen, etc. - are so very slimming, aren’t they?
oh wait, no, that’s bullshit.
because it’s actually rich people who can afford organic, gluten-free, low-carb, vegan versions of things, and it’s poor people who live on 50-cent burgers because they live in a food desert and don’t even have working kitchen appliances.
i don’t even remember who posted that shit but she was a thin woman who clearly spent hundreds of dollars on skinny jeans, studs, patches, etc. to perfect her entire wardrobe full of “anarchist”-aesthetic fashion… so how the fuck dare she try to speak about what she perceived to be the “hypocrisy” of fat people.
You guys are too beautiful and too wonderful to put yourselves through so much stress over this shit. ♥
*shit I wish people would forget about.
