My mom had TMZ on in the background today and they were all so ugly talking about, “Ooooh, you’re rich! Boo-hoo!” And normally, I might be on board with such comments, because a lot of famous and/or rich people are incredibly out of touch.

But Britney?

Britney has no access to her money. She’s not allowed to make her own decisions. She struggles with mental illness. There are other people calling the shots for nearly every aspect of her life. Financial abuse is real and it’s ugly.

I’m all for making fun of the rich and famous when they make dumbass comments that illustrate just how ignorant they are to the struggles of the underprivileged, but Britney is a victim of abuse. That doesn’t go away just because you’re a pop culture icon.

God, this is so important. I feel like her meltdown showed just how vicious the media can be when someone acts outside of the norm. They turned her into a joke for so many years and never even bothered to think that maybe she was just a human being going through some rough stuff.
