gender doesn’t determine what you can and cannot enjoy, what you can and cannot look like or what you can and cannot do

Feminine doesn’t equal female. Gender presentation is a completely separate identity from gender identity. I don’t identify as a woman or female or a girl, but I do identify as a grrl or a lady or a prince or a sir. I’m a strong person, not a strong woman. I’m feminine by choice, not by obligation. Whether I have my beard grown out and I’m wearing a dress or I’m wearing a pushup bra while packing, I’m still me. No less me whether I’m perceived as male, female, neither, or both. I’m not without gender but I’m not defined by gender either. I just am.

My response to a cisgender person asking me about my Trans* status (they said they’ve always seen me as a “strong woman” who is very feminine)

My class today

Me: So when you see the 4 year old boy pull the little girl's hair...
Students: He likes her!
Me: Now they are around 11 or 12 and he grabs her arm and wrestles her to the ground even though she calls him a jerk and yells at him to leave her alone.
Students: That is just how boys are.
Me: Now they are 18 and he grabs her arm and--
Students: Oh, that's not okay.
Me: Really? How would he know? How would she know? How would you know? You just told me that for the first 17 years of these children's lives that you thought it was cute, sweet, and natural for a boy to grab a girl and be rough with her.
Students: Oh.
Me: Oh, is right.
