Nah not really you’ve already pointed out you don’t care about Cultural Appropriation. No matter how much evidence I pull out by people with doctorates and masters in the field of study you gonna choose to remain ignorant.
So no my nigga I don’t wanna go. I really just wanna say you’re an ignorant fuckwit and I hope you’re not Black because it pains me when Black people are this ignorant.

all jokes aside benedict cumberbatch its racist and classist and also sees autistic people as subhuman so fuck him
Sources pls
sources!
racism: beaniebag’s take on the August 2011 riots ignited over racial and economic inequality when a black man was shot by police: “I’m a Prince of Wales Trust ambassador, so I’m all about giving youth an education, a voice and a chance to not take the wrong road,” he says. “But those eejits saying they’re doing it for socio-political reasons? Fuck off, no you’re not, you’re on a jolly and you’re getting away with it. It makes me want to belt them, make them lame for a bit so they’re dependent on other people’s mercy…” (technically this one is racist, classist, AND ableist, but we’ll move on)
bramblepatch considers his roles as slave-owners to be “a sort of apology” for his entire family fortune being built on the slave trade…which is all well and good except he got paid millions of dollars for those roles. right. granted, it can only be confirmed he feels that way about his abolitionist slave-owning character, but literally anyone could have played that role?? pretty sure he didn’t seek it out specifically as a form of atonement for hundreds of years of his family working slaves literally to death.
and let’s not forget he still defends his role as khan in star trek: into darkness, which…well, given that khan (in the original context) was a character who was genetically engineered with all the best genes on Earth and the intentional choosing of a man of color for that role was essentially a fuck-you to white supremacist/white-as-default notions, it’s definitely a sore spot and worth consideration in the context of benchmarktest computersmash’s family owning black slaves
classism: revisiting the first link on racism, actually, for when bendytoot said “But my sympathy is with the people who do know what they’re talking about, who have been brought up on estates and live morally decent, contributing lives and who have seen opportunists destroying all their work.“
breadedbun talking about the Edwardian period: “There was a social structure that had to be adhered to… Everyone was held in their place, but what was honourable about it was that there was a duty of care from the top down.” (bonus: the statement he makes below this one in the linked article is fat-shaming)
ableism: bindlesnoot comparing autistic people to frankenstein’s monster because they are, essentially, ”adult children” living in arrested development; there’s far, far more at the link as well
brimbledip becoming angry when people think certain popular characters he plays might be autistic (notably Sherlock and Alan Turing–who btw was an actual historical gay/bi man and that was all but erased and twisted in the movie about him :/)– because it offers ”false hope”
this is by no means an exhaustive list, but there’re some sources for you
Can you please stop spreading misinformation about Benedict Cumberbatch? He hasn't stolen any roles from anyone- he was cast in roles. What you claim are problematic statements have been taken out of context, twisted and then magnified. BC is a decent, kind person who works to right wrongs, believes in social justice, and dedicates tons of his time and influence to charity.
Actually no he wasn’t just cast in roles he’s sought out for roles. And in the case of Doctor Strange a character that is frequently racially ambiguous and that relies on the Mighty Whitey trope and lots of cultural appropriation the only way to fix it would have been to cast an Asian actor. Not to mention the clear whitewashing of the ancient one in the film is problematic. So he doesn’t get any reprieve for being in that shitty movie.
And because all of you BC stans say the same shit I’m gonna start copy pasting my responses.
This is copied directly from your fave is problematic

- Compared autistic people to Frankenstein’s Monster while talking about his part as the Creature in a production of Frankenstein: “It’s basically being a man child, it’s being a man infant. And then, psychologically, Danny and Nick Dear, who’s adapted the Mary Shelley novel, into a brilliant 2 ½ hour play version of it, he, they both have autistic sons. So we went to two extraordinary schools and met some high spectrum autistic kids. And it was very, very humbling and amazing and very upsetting, but very, very extraordinary as well, and inspiring. And especially the people looking after them, and these amazing life forces, but just formed with…*sigh* um, socially just things that are outside of everyday. You know, there are certain barriers that aren’t there because of the arrested development that… there was a 17 year old that had the mental age of, I think, an 18 month old. I mean, it was… It’s…it’s…it’s really really extraordinary and very upsetting. And uh, it was important for them to realize that the Creature in their story was not their… the monster of old… the monster of the gothic horror stories. He’s very much an innocent. He’s very much someone who is carried through life, as someone who is so different, not only because of his appearance, but because of these behaviorial tics, which are very autistic, um, both in his understanding of the world, psychologically and emotionally, but also physically as well, how that manifests later in his body. And so that was the major part of the preparation.” (Explanation/ analysis at the link)
- Said he had been “castigated as a moaning, rich, public-school b******, complaining about only getting posh roles”
- About the 2011 London riots: “ ”I’m a Prince of Wales Trust ambassador, so I’m all about giving youth an education, a voice and a chance to not take the wrong road. But those eejits saying they’re doing it for socio-political reasons? Fuck off, no you’re not, you’re on a jolly and you’re getting away with it. It makes me want to belt them, make them lame for a bit so they’re dependent on other people’s mercy… It’s very hard for me to talk about it, because I came from an incredibly privileged bubble so the minute I open my mouth I can sense the comeback of, ‘What the fuck do you know?’ And that’s fair. But my sympathy is with the people who do know what they’re talking about, who have been brought up on estates and live morally decent, contributing lives and who have seen opportunists destroying all their work.“
- About Elementary, the American version of Sherlock ”I did say [to Jonny], ‘Well, I’d prefer you didn’t do it but you’ve got a kid to feed, a nice house in LA and a wife to keep in good clothes.’ When you get used to a certain standard of living and they waft a paycheck at you, what are you going to do?“
- “I look in a mirror and I see all the faults I’ve lived with for 35 years and yet people go kind of nuts for certain things about me.”
- “I know I’m no technical expert but I do love trying to sort of dance with the camera. And he knows I’m a tart for it”
- “Those slightly mad eyes which became sadly a lot madder which became part of the tragedy of Jeremy’s life”
- “Martin has much more intuitive brilliance than I have which would make him an asexual sociopath. Not that Martin Freeman is an asexual sociopath but he’s just far quicker at thinking than I am.”
- Said he thought Sherlock’s haircut was “womanly”
- “Being a posh actor in England, you can’t escape class-typing, from whatever side you look at it. I realised quite early on that, although I wasn’t trying to make a career speciality of it, I was playing slightly asexual, sociopathic intellectuals” Wow that must be so hard for you Benny. You should go complain to some POC actors who can’t get work because of the massive racism and whitewashing in the entertainment industry. I’m sure they’ll feel really bad for you.
- About the Victoria Era: “Everyone was held in their place, but what was honourable about it was that there was a duty of care from the top down”.White Man’s Burden, anyone?
- “I want to be able to play trailer-bound fatties in a Judd Apatow comedy”
- “In America I could play everything from trailer-trash to Harvard-educated”
- Recently performed a reading of R. Kelly’s “Genius,” a mockery designed to show the “absurdity” of the lyrics, which reinforces the class and race hierarchy.
- Misgendered Chelsea Manning in an interview with The Guardian
- Defended Julian Assange and claimed the sexual assault charges against him were just “character defamation”
Also he played Khan which was shitty whitewashing, Khan Noonien Singh was supposed to be Indian.

OR: is his back is such a fine and sturdy back that it warrants top billing?
You know damn well neither of those are the reason
that boy ugly as shit
STOP PLAYING LIKE Y'ALL DONT KNOW WHY THEY DONT SHOW HIS FACE IN MOVIE POSTERS
Dr Strange is more than just a curdled milk white guy in a goatee, it’s the epitome of white people’s consumption of Asian cultures and using it to forward their own narrative while erasing us from it. It’s imperialism and erasure. it’s yellowface, which symbolizes a straight century of violent systematic dehumanisation.
so full offense but if you support that clusterfuck of a movie you need to stay 5533829 light years away from me.
also, before the concern trolls start coming in let me just say this: yes, you are allowed to like problematic media; no you are not defined by the media you consume.
but there is a huge, huge, difference between liking something despite its problems and liking something because of it. Dr Strange is not the first and will not be the last franchise to erase a character’s heritage, but that’s not the only problem.
the problem is that the entire concept of this movie was based on the notion that Asian cultures exist for white people’s consumption, both from an intra-text and an extra text perspective. Because the giant white circlejerk that is Marvel decided that our stories about our own cultures are not worth telling and needed a pot of white curdled milk to tell it for us, giving him the narrative of using exotification, orientalism and white consumption to fight off yellow peril villains.
if you take away that concept…what else is left of the movie? two white guys you drool over? movies like Dr Strange (and American Sniper before that and the Interview before that and Lucy before that) are grounded in white supremacist ideals that dehumanise non-white, non-Western and based on the idea that we are supposed to be incongruous to their pain.
if your enjoyment of a piece of media is based on the fact that this movie dehumanises the people it appropriates from and being able to ignore that because you can turn a blind eye and deaf ear, then yes, you are part of the problem.
“white guy accident superpowers mysticism internal conflicts superhero everyone stick around for the tag at the end of the credits”
“also stars tilda swinton as the character that’s usually an asian guy”
YES
Benedict Cumberbatch literally compared autistic kids to Frankenstein’s monster and said that we shouldn’t give autistic people ‘false hope’ by showing them in a positive light
please stop supporting him
”So we went to two extraordinary schools and met some high spectrum autistic kids. […] You know, there are certain barriers that aren’t there because of the arrested development that… there was a 17 year old that had the mental age of, I think, an 18 month old.” ”[The monster]’s very much an innocent. He’s very much someone who is carried through life, as someone who is so different, not only because of his appearance, but because of these behaviorial tics, which are very autistic, um, both in his understanding of the world, psychologically and emotionally, but also physically as well, how that manifests later in his body.“ Source (open letter that links to a dead link but has a transcript of the relevant part) Source (Transcript of different interview where some of same things are repeated.)
“[Being autistic is] a real struggle all the time. Then these people pop up in my work and they’re sort of brilliant, and they on some levels almost offer false hope for the people who are going through the reality of it.” Source (Metro US)
Also, just because, the Your Fave Is Problematic post for him.
If Idris Elba is too street to play James Bond, then Benedict Cumberbatch is too alien to play any role on earth
The making of Smaug. (x)
he gets paid to do that
are you telling me cucumber man humped the ground and screamed for 2 minutes and gets a lot of money and tons of fan girls, but when i do it I’m “intoxicated” and “ruining my sister’s wedding”
Reblogging for the comment
Okay. Just hold on a minute. As a white female, I agree with almost everything in this post. Yes, whitewashing is everywhere, and no, I do not favor it. However, it is NOT the actor’s fault for playing the role. They are simply doing their job. Benedict Cumberbatch, Jennifer Lawrence and every other actor receiving rude comments for ‘whitewashing a role’ should be appreciated no matter what character they are, even if the role calls for a race that they aren’t. They are flawless as their characters and shouldn’t be discriminated because of people being upset about ‘the race of the character was all wrong, and they chose a white person to do it!’ And let me say this again. IT IS THEIR JOBS. THEY WORKED HARD TO BE IN THOSE MOVIES AND SHOWS. Have a little respect.
I don’t need to give anyone who contributes and/or perpetuates to whitewashing my respect.
I don't even know why people are questioning what role Benedict will play in Star Wars..
vwoom vwoom motherfuckers

HAHAHA ALRIGHT BUDDY (who I’ve kept anonymous because getting into fights with people is not cool and really I’m responding less to them and more to the man they quoted) let’s talk about this for a second.
First of all, Moffat speaking on an issue does not mean the issue is resolved. Moffat is one man with one opinion and his is not the end-all be-all, especially since he’s pretty fucking biased against Elementary anyway. He feels like there’s competition. Of course he’s mad. But I could cite Benedict Cumberbatch, who’s made his name playing Sherlock Holmes, and who encourages people to watch Elementary because a) it’s okay to have two Sherlock Holmes adaptations going at once, modern or not, and, b) one of his best friends is playing Holmes himself. Now, it might make sense for Benedict to feel competitive with that, but he doesn’t, because this isn’t a big fucking deal.
As for Moffat, well, he kind of has a history of being an arrogant dick who doesn’t know when to shut the fuck up.
But general arrogance and bias aside, let’s pick this argument apart, shall we?
Yes to all of this. Moffat's a fucking assbag full of shit.
