Y'all can’t handle a woman when she doesn’t need male approval to feel valid. You can’t stand for your gaze and erection to be taken as an offense. You cannot tolerate a woman not bending to your desire to know what her vaginal lining feels like. It makes you far too uncomfortable when she says, “I can do it myself”. You feel emasculated, right? Funny thing is, there seems to be no words for the constant degradation, humiliation, and rejection women deal with. It’s funny how hurting someone’s inflated ego can be seen as an insult to their manhood. WOW, what a world we live in, where women are dragged through the mud for saying yes, and dragged through the mud for saying no. Emasculation is a concept created to keep women from telling you to fuck off. Frankly, women, especially black women have their femininity questioned daily, or integrity and sense of respect is always being demeaned if it doesn’t please the black male machismo. Bell Hooks addresses this numerous times, and it breaks my heart that I have to see black women ridiculed daily. Why can’t I be proud that I have my own car, I love Beyonce, I have degrees, I have my own… and coming from a place of severe child abuse and sexual abuse, homelessness, and mental hospitalization for numerous suicide attempts, I will pound my fucking chest in the name of my accomplishments, because I worked fucking hard to get here. If I seem cold and distant, I don’t want you. The notion that I and women like me, are “Busting balls”, is completely insulting. We climbed over every obstacle to get here, to have our achievements, why not want for a partner who understands and appreciates it, a partner that know that they need to be a plus to your life, because you’ve walked thousands of miles to get here and you won’t let some low standard having, lame, ignorant fuck who thinks “suits are for lames” come fuck it up…. Rant done.

And then after pale skin set systems like this into our society, they go around and say things like “We are all human” and confuse “racism” with “prejudice” so that they can keep the system the same way for many years to come.

Marriages between black women and white men could be tolerated during slavery because they were so few in number and represented no threat to the white supremacist regime. After manumission they were no longer tolerated. In the state of Kentucky, the Supreme Court was asked to judge insane a white man who desired to marry a female slave he had once owned. Once slavery ended and whites declared that no black woman regardless of her class status or skin color could ever be a “lady”, it was no longer socially acceptable for a white man to have a black mistress. Instead, the institutionalized devaluation of black womanhood encouraged all white men to regard black females as whores or prostitutes. Lower class white men, who had had little sexual contact with black women during slavery, were encouraged to believe they were entitled to access to the bodies of black women.

All too often unenlightened white folks attempt to reinscribe in subtle ways a plantation economy in their relationships with black folks, however friendly. They attempt to symbolically re-create a situation where the black person services their needs. They may need to feel more powerful. Helping a needy black person can satisfy this need. Or how about the white girl who, uncertain about whether she is beautiful, chooses a black female sidekick with low self-esteem who worships her white counterpart, assuming a role almost like that of a ladies’ maid in the court? The black girl provides the background for her white friend to constantly reaffirm her special beauty. Sometimes I call this process re-mammification. Somehow the relationship between white and black friends becomes one where subordination to whiteness is expressed by this covert demand that the black person must not only assume a secondary posture in the friendship but serve the needs of the white person.

HOLY SHIT, THIS. THIS. THIS. This just goes to show how pervasive this shit is and how real it is, I’ve never read this quote and I have been calling the way white people, specifically white girl, have been treating me as “Mammying”. That’s what they want, a poor stupid black girl to be their understudy, their audience, their wingman, their mule, their confidant, whatever to make them look good and life easier on them. It’s fucking dehumanizing.
