Going to pre-emptively say that I know there are others who deal with this same shit from Americans and me writing my own feeling on my own tumblr isn't meant as a way to discredit the harm Americans have caused to so fucking many people and cultures

It is so fucking exhausting to be told I'm "one of the good ones" because I am living in another country and openly critical of the US Government. It's so exhausting having people ignore your perspective because, while I'm simultaneously "one of the good ones" I'm also a "dumb american"

The USA sucks, I get it. I grew up in it. I grew up in the propaganda, I grew up in the gun violence, I watched rights get stripped away, I grew up watching us commit atrocity after atrocity. But I feel like all I ever hear is how terrible we are and it's just so draining. I almost cried the other day when someone told me I have an "aesthetically pleasing" voice because I really can't remember a time I didn't have someone give me a compliment without also shitting on other Americans in the process. People think they know what Americans are like because you get American media but you really have no fucking idea the complicated feeling you get being American in a different country.
