Thinking about how owen’s mother had dementia, the ghosts in the manor losing their face but still retaining their ‘shape’ over time, the lady in the lake’s purpose eroding over time, the children slowly forgetting what happened when they grew up ....... Like the real horror is the past fading away and being forgotten until the only thing you have is the ‘idea’ of the thing. It’s Viola holding on to the image of her daughter even if she’s forgotten her purpose that led so much destruction, but you cant really fault her for that?? Cause in the end of the show jamie is still waiting for dani to come home and leave the door open for her. The entire show is about Jamie’s devotion to Dani and fighting so hard against ‘forgetting’, the reason its Jamie telling their story in the end is so no one forgets 😭

Finally watching haunting of bly manor and man, what a beautiful piece of cinema episode 5 was. It’s haunting and perfectly encapsulates Hannah’s feeling of pretending everything’s ‘fine’ while she’s stuck in a trap both literally and metaphorically, unable to get out of bly manor even before her death. It gives the answer to Owen’s question to her in the previous episode in a way that expands not just on her situation but on the mystery surrounding the manor. It’s a beautiful episode im glad i finally got over victorria pedretti’s fake wig and accent and watched the rest.

Dani and Jamie are legitimately such a great couple, their banters are funny, and their relationship is built up so well. They are flawed, messed up human beings trying to find a way to make the both of them work. Dani wondering how you can mix up love with posession, and then contrast that with her relationship with her childhood bestfriend, someone who she nearly married just out of obligation because she feels ‘trapped’ in heteronormative norms and trying to learn how to love him. Even in death his ghost has his hand on her shoulder, he still ‘posesses’ her through her guilt.  And then there’s jaimie who is flawed and prickly despite this they both try to make it work. And their relationship culminates in that scene with the moonflower, the moonflower representing how love is something you cultivate even if it’s fleeting and you can only cherish it in the moment it’s still precious and something you work for.
