Alex’s first marriage was actually supposed to be the wedding of Meredith and Derek, but they had theirs in an unconventional way instead (Post-Its, anyone?). So he got the stereotypical wedding of Izzie’s dreams (which, by the way, she planned).

His second was supposed to be the stereotypical wedding, but he and Jo had theirs in an unconventional way instead (on a Ferry!). So, April and Matthew got the wedding instead (and, coincidentally, April planned the whole thing).
