Davina Claire was SACRIFICED by her family and everyone she loved and trusted. She was TRICKED into having her throat literally slit for some ancient ritual that no one was sure would work.

She fought back. When she realized what was happening she didn’t fold, she fought. She thrashed and scratched and fought in every way she knew how. She watched her best friend bleed out, she watched her mother turn away from her pleas, but she continued to fight.

When Marcel helped her, she put all of her trust in him. That wasn’t naive or stupid. It was what most people in that situation, at 16 years old, would do. He protected her from the people trying to kill her and in turn she trusted him. At first she trusted him blindly. But in time she began to ask questions and explore for herself. When she realized how dangerous the game Marcel was played was, she stopped trusting him blindly. She started making her own decisions.

She watched Klaus kill her only remaining friend. And she knew that it happened because of her involvement in the supernatural war. This girl was 16 years old and already dealing with life and death. Everyone around her was out for themselves. She did the best she could to figure out who she could trust and who had good intentions. She got knocked down over and over again but she never stopped fighting, she never gave in.

Say what you will about Davina. Call her annoying, call her whiny, call her a brat. All of those terms are extremely sexist and transparent but whatever. You can say what you want about her, but she is a fighter. She is raw and real and she never backs down from what she believes, even when the opponent is bigger and stronger and feared. If that isn’t something to be valued in a character on a supernatural drama, then I don’t know what is.

i only want to ask one simple question in regards to this post, because it is your opinion and you have a right to it.

why is it when anyone says something vaguely negative about a female character it's automatically sexist? please explain this to me.

the truth is, davina is a child given too much power and no guidance on how to use that power in a healthy way. that’s a fact. i’m sure you can agree with that.

but at the same time, if you're using davina's age as an excuse for her actions and reasons to value her strength, what about rebekah  -- who was but 17 when her parents turned her into a vampire? and elena gilbert? katherine pierce? caroline forbes? all young women turned in their teenage years and faced horrors that could eclipse davinas.

so why should we excuse davina's behavior? and why are her struggles more valid than the others? and this is a VALID question, so please refrain from falling into name calling. i'm genuinely curious.

When his life was ruined, his family killed, his farm destroyed, Job knelt down on the ground and yelled up to the heavens, “Why god? Why me?” and the thundering voice of God answered, “There’s just something about you that pisses me off.”

a guide to happy fanning.

  • don’t insult another character to bolster or build up your favorite. it’s pretty cheap. and also pretty stupid.
  • don’t insult someones favorite because they’re not yours. don’t be an ass to your friends because you share different opinions. opinions make the world go round.
  • tagging is your friend, utilize so others can blacklist.
  • recognize your characters amazing traits outside of your favorite ship because -- they are people outside of a ship.
  • politeness goes a long way. just saying -- just because you got one, doesn’t mean you gotta be one.

“I cannot say, and I will not say That he is dead. He is just away. With a cheery smile, and a wave of the hand, He has wandered into an unknown land And left us dreaming how very fair It needs must be, since he lingers there. And you—oh you, who the wildest yearn For an old-time step, and the glad return, Think of him faring on, as dear In the love of There as the love of Here. Think of him still as the same. I say,                He is not dead—he is just away.”

You know what I find disgusting

When people say they will stop watching a show, just because a character was killed off.

Case in point: Saving Hope.  It’s been stated, and proven, that Daniel wanted out.  For his family.  He was exhausted.  And yet, fans are blaming the writers, saying they treated Joel like shit, and then killed him off.  No.  Get your facts straight.

A show, is about the entire cast.  If you’re watching for only one person/character, you are missing the entire point.  And for that, I feel sorry for you.

Yes, Joel is gone.  That means, there will be no more triangle.  No more sassy Kiwi.  But, does that mean you should stop watching?  No.  The show is amazing, and full of drama every week.  If that’s not what you watch a show for, what do you watch for?

Y’all make me ill.

Stop your bitching, and think for once about the actor, not your own needs.

Rant over.

You know what disgusts me? People who act like we can't tell the difference. I'm one of those people who understands why Daniel wanted to leave because let's be real, I give him props for doing it this long, but I am also very upset at how my favorite character was treated and killed off. I'm pissed that they even rushed his death and the death of the week gets a whole "spirit world" episode and Joel gets ten seconds. These are valid annoyances that I'm allowed to have.

Did you read that part in the interview too? Where he was frustrated at how little storyline Joel actually had? Right. Not relevant to the argument, obviously.

I'm allowed to not want to watch something purely on the fact that my favorite character was mistreated and not given the proper story arch. That's my prerogative and it doesn't make me disgusting.

I plan to continue watching because I do like the show, but was I ever happy with how rushed Joel's storylines were? At how he wasn't ever given any proper happiness or closure? Fuck no. People are allowed to not watch a show because of their favorite being gone without being ridiculed, judged and called names -- everyone has a favorite and if you say you don't, you're definitely lying.
