By today's standards, Radclyffe Hall believed in an outdated concept of queerness; Those of variant sexualities were "Inverted", reborn into the wrong body. Her writing helps us understand how our predecessors tried to make sense of themselves to a dismissive world

This 4th piece in my series of animated portraits was inspired by Hall's short story "Miss Ogilvy Finds Herself" in which a woman struggles to fit into her societal role after returning home from WWI, and learns of her past life as a warrior from an prehistoric era.

Women of the World

Fukuda Hideko was a socialist feminist at a time when it was illegal for women to participate in organised political activity in Japan. Much of her work was shut down by the government. But with each attempt to silence her, she would rise up again.
