hey - original game/show anon here. sorry if that ask drew any unwanted attention to your doorstep, i was just curious and i guess wanted reassurance that i wasn’t the only game fan completely dismayed by the show. that line about succession killed me off though haaaa you are spot on. hope you don’t mind me sharing some more thoughts.
i totally agree with a lot of what you guys have said. joel was softened and watered down in an attempt to make him more likeable to a tv audience, erasing literally all of the nuance which made him so great in the first place. ellie was turned into a rude, bratty child without a shred of the poignancy and emotion she has in the game. tess was reduced to a building block for joel’s character, nothing more than some scorned lover who died pathetically to further his development.
it sucks. i think the show is culprit #1 for so much misunderstanding of these characters and the story. anyway. glad we can maybe form something of a support group when s2 drops. i also will not be watching. 🫶

Big support group! Especially after those set pictures that just came out cause what the fuck actually is going on 😂. Ellie with long hair, no converse, the tattoo looks horrible lol. The tweet talking shit got double the interactions as the original photo post which was also fucking incredible.
The show will always be under pixel Joel and Ellie’s boot/converse.

Yeah it’s all going to be trashed by the show, but mostly the show-only fan base. It’ll be like them sexualizing “baby girl” which is quite literally nauseating.
Joel is def gonna be butchered in the museum, unfortunately. The development from game 1 Joel to museum scene Joel was done in like…half an episode midway through s1 for whatever fucking reason. It sucks cause Pedro could have done a good job getting him right, but the direction/writing made him an overboiled noodle. As much as I wish they’d just leave it out they won’t lol. They’ll probably extend it with Joel crying over Tess some more and then flash to him and Sarah at a museum in pre-outbreak and give him another overdone panic attack or something 😂😂. He’ll hold a T-Rex’s hand to get his bearings back and cry into his cowboy hat.
I won’t be watching season 2 except maybe some cuts of Tommy lol. It was a bold choice to cast a top Ellie fan cast as Abby, too. Especially after Bella’s overacted nonsense. Their version of S2 Ellie will be even worse I fear. Maybe the fanbase will fall off when Joel’s head gets teed straight off by episode 2. That’s the best we can hope for lol.
Curious how they’re gonna pull off the amazing Ellie moments without spores. Maybe some tentacle porn, who knows!

for me, the way they changed entire characters, dynamics, and plotlines is really jarring and disappointing, and i'm surprised more game fans aren't bothered by this? figured maybe you'd have a decent take on it.
Oh man, my opinion on that show got me harassed by Pedro Pascal fans for like a good year.
