“Star Wars is about something very real, I think. It’s about persevering, it’s about doing what’s right when it’s difficult. It’s about giving your best effort. It’s about some really beautiful things.”
Ben Mendo talks about starring in unsettling sexual-abuse drama “Una”…
Ben Mendelsohn is definitely a Star Wars fan
And from here, it looks pretty good to be Ben.
At the moment, it is, at the moment, it’s real good. Life is a lot sweeter, I think, than you can be aware of it at times. But you go through shit, everyone goes through shit, that’s the only thing that makes it rich in the way it does. Surviving it gives you a gratitude.

I’ve spent various periods of my career being thought of as various things, various degrees of substance and ideas.
There seem to be three phases of my working life so far. Once upon a time they thought I was a sweet, wide-eyed boy that was just trying to figure out how to kiss the girl. Lots of comic relief and adolescent yearnings. Then they thought of me as what in Australia is know as a larrikin, which is kind of a dude, y’know? Very typical Australian man, with this particular set of characteristics. And now I get thought of more or less as the villain. That’s more or less how it’s gone, it’s been those three phases. And in between all that meta framing, there’s been a lot of different work.

The first ‘Star Wars’ film was enormously important. I grew up right smack-bang in the sweet spot of all of those. It’s true cinema magic. It’s fair to say that, as a kid, I would have been very happy to be Han Solo, and I would have been happy to have gone out with Princess Leia.
