Summary : You’re feeling down and you miss Mark. Fortunately he is here, next to you, on the bench.
You don’t know why you’re even putting up with this.
Today is Monday. You’re outside and it’s not that you don’t want it. It’s just that you miss him. Ever since yesterday night, you miss him.
A sigh escapes your lips.
You look at the plastic cup on the wooden table and grab it. Might as well spend the day like all the others.
“Boo!” He sits next to you. You’re surprised. He is early.
“What? Missed me already?” He smiles and stretches “I figured you needed someone to cheer you up.”
“Well. I’ve been feeling rather down. You always disappear whenever I need you the most.” You mumble and he notices how your mood has gone down recently.
“Oh my, is my girl mad at me?” He pokes your cheek and you back up, frowning.
“It’s just…why can’t they understand? It’s always the same, Mark.” Your hand grabs the cup but he stops you.
“They’re bothering you again?” You nod at him and he looks inside the building. Everyone is busy.
“You should explain it to them. Maybe they are stupid.” He laughs but you shake your head.
You’re still holding the cup.
“I’m trying. What do you think I’ve been doing for the past 6 months?” You look at Mark like he’s dumb and he makes a face at you.
“Forget about them. Let’s cuddle.” He proposes and you nod, approaching him. His body is not thick, but it feels warm, like you’re being swallowed by the fluffy blanket.
“I wish I could do something else. I feel like I’m trapped.” You feel him nuzzle your hair and he breathes in, humming.
“Am I not enough?” He tries. Mark has this habit of thinking you can overcome everything, as long as you’re with him.
But his presence is what’s putting you in trouble.
“As long as I start talking about you, they go crazy.” You don’t understand why. Mark is a nice guy with a high education, a pretty face, and a good background. He could get any girl. Too bad he’s stuck with your sorry ass.
“I have this effect on people. Did you tell them how cute I am?” He teases but you slap him, and it feels hard under your fingers. Your hand stays on his chest but it feels flat.
“I did. I described you pretty well. You’re like, perfect. I hate them.”
Mark leans against the wall “I am not perfect. Anyways. How was your day? Stop sulking or you’ll make me regret appearing before you.” He scolds.
“Plain. Woke up, walked around, fed the cat, talked to a couple of people, and here I am.” You shrug. It’s quite the usual, actually.
“How about we go somewhere, just you and me?” He is daring, and you like it. Mark has always been the adventurous type, ready for any challenge. He likes you being in trouble, it seems.
“Where? Do you want me to be grounded forever?” You laugh. It’s crazy, Mark knows you can’t.
Before you can answer, a girl comes out. She is looking around and you lift your head from Mark’s chest.
She turns to look at you but ignores your boyfriend and walks away, at the far end of the garden.
“Roommate?” Mark whispers.
You shake your head “More of a neighbor. She’s crazy, I swear. She just walks around. All day. Nothing to do.” You turn to him and he is smiling at you.
“Whereas you have me.” He leans against the table and his head falls over his crossed arms.
“My annoying boyfriend.” You snort.
“You love your annoying boyfriend, sweetheart.” Mark knows better. You adore him. No matter how much everyone hates him, you can’t spend a day without him.
It’s like he was born for you only.
“I do.” You wish he would stop being so cheesy, but at the same time, it makes your heart feel warm.
“I love you too!” He cheers and his white pearly teeth are the best reward.
You want to kiss him but the girl is back. She stops in front of you and stares for a long time. You want to push her away, and you hear Mark chuckle behind you. She’s not looking at him and you want to yell at her for being so rude.
“See you.” She tells you and goes back in.
You shudder “See? She is crazy. She didn’t even greet you.” You cross your arms over your chest and Mark comes closer.
“Like she could even if she wanted to.” He winks at you and you roll your eyes.
“Are you implying I’m jealous?” it’s funny how Mark likes it, but then again, he is, too.
He just has no reasons to be.
You glance at the cup when you hear a sound from inside the building. You know it’s over.
“Now, don’t make that face.” Mark coos. It’s always the same, and he hates seeing you so sad.
“I just…It was such a short time.” Your face becomes dull and you feel his hand against your cheek.
“I’ll be back. Don’t be so dramatic, baby. They’ll eventually let us be together.” He leans to you and you want to hug him so hard. It feels like he’ll be gone any minute.
He usually goes rather fast.
His hand goes to the cup on the table and he pushed it close to you “Here. This way it’ll be easier. Don’t make this harder, I need you back soon.” Mark tries and you pout at him.
“So you want to get rid of me, right?” A tear falls from your face and he sighs.
“Look. We’ve talked about this so many times already. Even if I can’t always he here because of them, I’ll always be here,” he points at your heart “and here” then points at your head.
“I’m glad that I can keep you close.” You sniff and he smiles at you.
“That’s right. Be strong! I love you!” He says but you see him become sad. He doesn’t want to go either.
You take the cup and gulp it down, wiping your mouth violently.
“5 minutes.” You hiccup and it seems like he wants to hold you, but looks inside and stops from moving.
“Eat well. I won’t be gone for long. They need something bigger to make me stop coming.” You feel his hand on your thigh, but it’s not warm anymore.
“Mark, am I going to be okay?” It gets hard to think, and your brain is slowly shutting off.
“Always. I’m here to make sure of that. No matter what.” Mark looks sure of himself, but he knows it’s not, and you feel it too.
Mark is going to go in less than 2 minutes.
“Next time, smile instead of pouting like a kid.” He mocks but you know he wants to cry, too.
“I will. Next time, I’m not taking it! I’ll find a way.” Your fist hits the table and Mark smiles at you.
“My babe is so hot-tempered.” he whispers cheekily and you rub your eyes because it gets hard hearing his voice.
You’re suddenly so tired. You see the cat from afar, playing with something on the grass.
A hand falls on your shoulder and you jump, surprised.
“I’ve been calling you, lunch is ready.” The voice is kind, but you hate it. It’s always the same soft tone.
“I was talking to-” You turn around but he is gone.
“To…?” The voice gets cautious, like you’ve been doing something wrong.
“Mark.” You look at the garden and your vision gets blurry. You forget about what you’ve been doing.
“Mark? Again? Y/N, did you drink your medication?” You sigh and look up. The girl’s white gown is too shiny for your suddenly exhausted state.
“Yes. I did.” You feel obedient, and you know you should be, but you hate it.
“Do you want to meet the doctor?” She carefully asks
You sigh “I’m not sick.”
The girl shakes her head “We’ve talked about this. There is no Mark. You’ve been having more and more of them, maybe we should ask for-”
You raise a tired hand at her and you remember you’ve been crying. “No need. I’m just tired. Can I skip lunch and go to bed? I don’t feel too well.”
She is worried when you get up and puts a comforting hand on your shoulder. You walk in and spare one last glance to the bench you and Mark have been sitting on.
She is about to close the door and you want to tell her the cat is still outside but it hits you now. The medication is making you go crazy it seems.
There was no cat either.
