The 101 worst things about Trump’s shambolic presidency

Some people seem to have forgotten how bad a president Trump was, so I made a list of the worst things about the Trump presidency, in no particular order. Please share and add anything I missed.

  1. Trump fueled division and sparked a record uptick in hate crimes.
  2. Murder went way up under Trump. He presided over the largest ever single-year increase in homicides in 2020. A number of factors might have contributed to that, but a big one is …
  3. Gun sales broke records under Trump, who has bragged about how he “did nothing” to restrict guns as president in spite of how …
  4. Under Trump, America suffered more than 1,700 mass shootings.
  5. When Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico, Trump delayed $20 billion of aid and allowed Puerto Rico to be without power for 181 days.
  6. According to Trump’s former acting Homeland Security secretary, Trump proposed selling the entire island of Puerto Rico.
  7. Trump said there were “very fine people” among the neo-Nazis in Charlottesville.
  8. Trump allied himself with the Proud Boys, a violent hate group who helped orchestrate the January 6 Capitol attack.
  9. Trump has been convicted of committing 34 felonies while in office. All of the criminally false business filings he was convicted of were committed while he was president.
  10. Trump appointed three Supreme Court justices who he knew would overturn Roe v. Wade. As a result, 1 in 3 American women of childbearing age now lives under an abortion ban.

[NOTE: I tried to post the whole list, but it exceeded Tumblr's character limit! See this linked source post for all 101.]

There's so much more, from exchanging “love letters” with North Korea’s brutal dictator to late-night tweet binges.

I can understand why a lot of people want to block all this out of their memories. But we cannot afford to forget just how terrible Trump’s time in the White House was for this nation.

And remember this, too: Trump would have done far worse but for people around him who refused to follow his orders. If he gets another shot at the White House, he’ll make sure he’s surrounded by lapdogs who will do whatever he wants.

We sure as hell can’t afford to put him back there.

why why why why why do so many liberals simply refuse to learn from clinton's loss??

every time a liberal refers to harris as the next president or otherwise acts as though the election is a sure thing for her i want to scream. the only people who have any excuse are those who were too young to have voted in 2016, and yet it's mostly millennials, gen x, and boomers I see doing this. Why??

This isn't even a "get out and vote" post, this is a "your insistence on constantly underestimating the threat of the right will always be your undoing and yet you assholes never learn" post

I'm sure many people have already shared this here, but I think it's important that people here on Tumblr need to see this.

"I disagree with Kamala's position on the war in Gaza. How can I vote for her?" by US Senator Bernie Sanders

His question is NOT RHETORICAL by the way! Transcript for anyone who struggles with video:

“I understand that there are millions of Americans who disagree with President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris on the terrible war in Gaza.

I am one of them.

While Israel had a right to defend itself against the horrific Hamas terrorist attack of October 7th, which killed 1,200 innocent people and took 250 hostages, it did not have a right to wage an all-out war against the entire Palestinian people.

It did not have the right to kill 42,000 Palestinians, two thirds of whom were children, women and the elderly, or injure over 100,000 people in Gaza.

It did not have the right to destroy Gaza's infrastructure, housing, and healthcare system. It did not have the right to bomb every one of Gaza's 12 universities.

It did not have the right to block humanitarian aid, causing massive malnutrition in children and, in fact, starvation.

And that is why I am doing everything I can to block U.S. military aid and offensive weapon sales to the right-wing extremist Netanyahu government in Israel. And I know that many of you share those feelings, and some of you are saying,

"How can I vote for Kamala Harris if she is supporting this terrible war?"

And that is a very fair question. And let me give you my best answer. And that is that even on this issue, Donald Trump and his right-wing friends are worse. In the Senate, in Congress, the Republicans have worked overtime to block humanitarian aid to the starving children in Gaza. The President and Vice President both support getting as much humanitarian aid into Gaza as soon as possible.

Trump has said Netanyahu is "doing a good job", and has said Biden is "holding him back". He has suggested the Gaza strip would make excellent beachfront property for development. And it is no wonder Netanyahu prefers to have Donald Trump in office.

But even more importantly - and this I promise you - after Kamala wins, we will together do everything that we can to change U.S. policy toward Netanyahu. An immediate ceasefire, the return of all hostages, a surge of massive humanitarian aid, the stopping of settler attacks on the West Bank, and the rebuilding of Gaza for the Palestinian people.

And let me be clear. We will have, in my view, a much better chance of changing U.S. policy with Kamala than with Trump, who is extremely close to Netanyahu and sees him as a like-minded, right-wing extremist ally.

But let me also say this - and I deal with this every single day as a U.S. Senator - as important as Gaza is, and as strongly as many of us feel about this issue, it is not the only issue at stake in this election.

If Trump wins, women in this country will suffer an enormous setback and lose the ability to control their own bodies. That is not acceptable.

If Trump wins, to be honest with you, the struggle against climate change is over. While virtually every scientist who has studied the issue understands that climate change is real, and an existential threat to our country and the world, Trump believes it is a "hoax". And if the United States, the largest economy in the world, stops transforming our energy system away from fossil fuel, every other country - China, Europe, all over the world - they will do exactly the same thing. And God only knows the kind of planet we will leave to our kids and future generations.

If Trump wins, at a time of massive income and wealth inequality, he will demand even more tax breaks for the very richest people in our country while cutting back on programs that working families desperately need. The rich will only get richer while the minimum wage will remain at $7.25 an hour and millions of our fellow workers will continue to earn starvation wages.

Did you all see the recent Trump rally at Madison Square Gardens? Well, I did. And what I can tell you is that, as a nation, as all of you know, we have struggled for years, against impossible odds, to overcome all forms of bigotry - whether it's racism, whether it's sexism, whether it's homophobia, whether it's xenophobia, you name it. We have tried to fight against bigotry. But that is exactly what we saw on display at that unbelievable Trump rally. It was not a question of speakers getting up there, disagreeing with Kamala Harris on the issue. That wasn't the issue at all. They were attacking her simply because she was a woman, and a woman of colour. Extreme, vulgar sexism and racism.

Is that really the kind of America that we can allow?

So let me conclude by saying this: this is the most consequential election in our lifetimes. Many of you have differences of opinion with Kamala Harris on Gaza. So do I.

But we cannot sit this election out. Trump has got to be defeated. Let's do everything we can in the next week to make sure that Kamala Harris is our next president.

Thank you very much.”

I see a lot of posts along the lines of, "people stay in Florida because they can't afford to leave," in reference to both climate disasters and Republican politicians.

I don't see enough, "because it's their home, and leaving under such conditions is traumatic, even if they can afford to drop everything and leave."

I wish people would stop telling me "just move" when I talk about the problems I want to fix. I wish people would stop telling me "it's a sunk cost, you should just leave" when I try to encourage political participation and community involvement. I wish people would stop asking me "lmao why" when I say that I love Florida. I wish people would stop asking me if I "need help leaving" when I have never declared any intention to do so, and have been quite vocal about how happy I was to move back to Florida after a long time away.

I know this land, I know this community, I have deep roots here. I'm tired of everyone telling me to rip them up and "just leave" when I'm trying so goddamn fucking hard to try and help make things better.

You might just see a gross swamp full of rednecks, but I see the sides you refuse to. I see the humanity, I see the communities banding together, I see the beauty, I see the hope. I see the climate activists advocating for our people and our environment, engineering new ways to mitigate hurricanes and update our infrastructure. I see the groups fighting for immigrant rights, racial justice and reparations, affordable housing, organized labor, abortion access, and disability justice. I see the queer organizations carving out space and helping trans people access healthcare. I see people fighting DeSantis tooth and goddamn nail at every single opportunity. I see the reasons to keep fighting for this place that everyone else has written off as a cheap punchline.

I wish y'all would stop ignoring us when there isn't a deadly hurricane or a Florida Man headline, and I wish y'all would stop treating Floridians like we're either helpless victims or horrible bigots with zero in-between.

Some of us are doing our damnedest to make things better. Some of us love Florida with every fiber of our being. Some of us think of Florida, and before anything else, we think "that's home."

It feels pretty fucking bad to constantly see people say your home should be abandoned. It feels pretty fucking bad when the entire rest of the world refuses to see your home as anything but a joke or a problem.

Florida is beautiful. Florida is my home. I'm going to fight for it no matter how many people reading this think I should just pack up and abandon it.

  • Ukraine aid will be cut and Russia will steamroll them.
  • Taiwan aid will likely be cut and China will steamroll them.
  • Ditto for the Philippines and China.
  • Israel aid will increase and whatever hope we have for a ceasefire will be gone, as Trump has encouraged them to “finish the job” in Palestine.
  • Russia will continue to carry out coups in West Africa the way they did in Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger. Chad is next on their list.
  • Trump wants to weaken NATO and leave Europe at Russia’s mercy.

yeah maybe just avoid all food with chicken in it in the united states for a bit...just until they figure out all of who is in possession of the listeria chicken (also includes a lesser amount of beef and maybe other meat)

if you saw the chicken get slaughtered yourself, or you know for a fact that the food you are eating contains no ingredients from brucepac, then you should be safe from the brucepac recall. but this recall is millions of pounds larger than the boar's head recall that shut down delis across the country.

the origin of the ingredients in food are not listed on the package or on the websites of most institutions in the case of restaurants and industrial food type places. the united states government does not even have a complete list yet, apparently. whether or not food contains ingredients from brucepac is almost impossible for a consumer to know.

if you do call or email to ask, you want to ask, "where do you source your chicken/meat/etc?" or "do you source any meat or poultry ingredients from brucepac?" and go from there.

consumer brands that have at least one item involved in the recall (so far, the recall list is updating daily, consider this list incomplete):

trader joe's, good and gather, boston market, atkins, dole, marketside, red's, little salad bar, fresh express, HEB, whitsons culinary group, rao's, michael angelo's, el monterey, fusia, trader ming's, amazon fresh, meijer, giant eagle, kroger, signature select, taylor farms, raley's, michelina's, eat!, garden choice, jenny craig, great value, udi's, wegmans, 7-eleven, freshly made, a bunch of generic brands, ready meals, amazon kitchen, home chef, racetrack, save mart, bistro 28, and don pancho.

most of the recalled items are ready made foods like salads, chicken tikka masala, chicken and rice, chicken fajita, chicken piccata, chicken fried rice, pasta, pasta salads, chicken lo mein, chicken alfredo, meal kits, pasta bowls, quesadillas, burrito bowls, burritos, tacos, enchiladas, taquitos, wraps, and frozen dinners that you just heat up. refrigerated and frozen foods.

and this is in addition to a TON of bulk food that is in the freezers of restaurants and food industry type places, and ingredients that are used in generic ready made foods across the country.

the recall list is incomplete. all of the listeria meat has not been located, identified, or removed from circulation yet. although a hefty chunk of the recall involves salads that have gone bad by now, many of the recalled items have best by dates into 2025 and 2026.

FDA recall link (just a few of them are listed here)

Yep. A LOT of generic brands have been affected. The recall is everything from 7-Eleven to Whole Foods/Amazon to Safeway and so on. Chopped (aka Taylor Farms), a vary popular salad mix in my area, is also on the list.

Looks like I'm leaning on hot dogs and frozen fish fillets to be my Cheap Meat for a while. Thankfully I haven't bought any chicken recently outside some nuggets at a fast food place.

My state is ruby red. Last week, I put up a Harris-Walz sign in my front yard up close to the porch. Every couple days, as I got braver, I moved it a few feet closer to the street where the visibility is better. Two days ago, my sign achieved its curbside position with maximum visibility.

Yesterday, I was out digging in my front yard (I'm rewilding my lawn) and a truck pulled over. A 62-year-old woman gets out, thanks me for my sign, and admits how scared she is to put up her own Democratic lawn sign. She's a registered Republican who hasn't voted for Republicans in more than a decade. We talked for half an hour and I just texted her about the VP Debate watch party this Tuesday.

Things learned:

  1. Not all registered Republicans are actually Republicans.
  2. Boomers and Gen X age voters are changing their minds.
  3. Having a yard sign makes a difference.
  4. Even ruby red states are more purple than you might think.

PLEASE DONT MAKE THE HURRICANE POLITICAL! PLEASE DONT MAKE THE HURRICANE POLITICAL! PLEASE DONT MAKE THE HURRICANE POLITICAL! PLEASE DONT MAKE THE HURRICANE POLITICAL!

I’m going to say something that I think a lot of people might have a problem hearing

Unpleasant people who make bad choices (people you don’t agree with religiously, politically, etc) also deserve basic human rights and dignity. You can hate them, you can want them gone away from you, but they still deserve basic human rights and dignity. If you disagree with this you are simply as bad as you say they are you line in the sand is just different.

“I do not want anyone to suffer or die regardless of beliefs” should not be a hot take. Thank you for coming to my ted talk

Appalachia has been the punching bag for much of American history and I have known some very “radical socialists” even who look down on “pigheaded mountain people ruining their own lives.” I have already seen many young leftists in online spaces doing the same bullshit people did when Texas’s power grid failed and blaming innocent dying people for the awful situation and I’m fucking sick of it.

For those of you who don’t know Hurricane Helene slammed through the southeast way further inland than storms like this do. Where I am at has been without power since Friday for millions of people and has been under a state of emergency.Just a skip away, western North Carolina,Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia are under water. Entire towns have been wiped off the face of the earth.

Mountain towns flood, that’s something folks know to prepare for with storms. But there’s no preparing for 3 days of constant rain from a whole separate storm system and then a hurricane blasting through hundreds and hundreds of miles inland. “tHeY ShOuLd hAvE eVaCuAtEd” Motherfuckers where? If you go up the mountains it’s landslides and down it’s flash flooding. Not to mention major news networks never reported that the storm shifted east last minute Thursday night and the aftereffects would be hitting sc,nc,tn,va where it did.

Appalachia has also always been the poorest part of the country and the most ignored. Even if folks HAD been given evacuation orders, which they weren’t,people here don’t have the money or the ability to evacuate. The greatest irony out of all of this is the most ignorant people in the world smuggly saying well,if these stupid conservatives voted blue they would have infrastructure and wouldn’t be in this mess, when the areas drowning right now like Asheville NC are notoriously leftist cities in the south.

And you know what, even if it is a bunch of right wing conservative hillbillies who vote a way you don’t like, they don’t deserve to drown in flash floods or be crushed alive in mudslides or their houses crumbling to tinder around them. The most disenfranchised, ignored, and forgotten area of this country does not deserve apocalyptic disaster because their government does not care about them, never has and never will.

People who believe and vote for things you don’t like do not deserve to have their corpses dug out from mud pits or to watch their loved ones and homes disappear. Nobody deserves that and if you feel they do you should examine yourself and your hatred and want for human suffering.

What do you mean? This isn’t a parody?

Oh my god he actually responded like this. He actually said those words on the debate stage when they did the smallest amount of debunking of the racist lie he’s been running with for weeks now. He actually said this.

How is he so bad at doing this??

non-voters and third party voters going around claiming "voting to save yourself is privilege" is actual literal emotional manipulation. it is the epitome of privilege to throw your vote away in hopes that the rapture, excuse me the "revolution," will come faster because you think you're going to survive it.

it takes an INSANE amount of privilege to think you would survive a second donald trump presidency.

if anyone tries to shame you away from voting because you're afraid of dying if trump gets re-elected, just know they are certain they would survive a second trump presidency.

hey my besties who live in red states: id like you to go out and vote anyway.

yeah, the electoral college means your vote doesn't count unless you win your state. it's a terrible undemocratic bullshit system. it's not going to change before this election,* so there isn't much point in complaining about it right now.

if you hold the belief that there's no point in voting because your voice will just be downed out by a chorus of bigotry- chances are other people in your state feel the same way. and because those people are not voting, it's impossible to know how many of you there are. the reason it's important to vote EVEN WHEN YOU KNOW YOU ARE GOING TO LOSE is to make this number public.

when the minority in a state still goes out to vote:

- other members of the minority party know they aren't alone in their state. this encourages MORE people to vote in the next election

- the majority candidates are forced to divert some of their campaign resources away from swing states to secure a state they were already going to win

- the minority candidates are encouraged to spend some time campaigning in your state instead of abandoning it as a lost cause

- assuming you also vote in local elections, the minority is more likely to win representatives in the house

- who knows there might be so many of you that you fucking flip it by mistake

there has been a 700% increase in new daily voter registrations in the few days since Biden dropped out of the race.

thousands of people are deciding, right now, that voting is worth it. some of them live in your state. there is going to be a spike in blue votes across the country. this election is going to have the youngest voter turnout in history. this is the best possible time to join them. join us.

what have you got to lose? one afternoon?

due to systemic oppression, usamerican leftists don't currently have the political power to instate a leftist president. we do, however, have enough power to make one of two candidates lose the election. we could use this power to make the white supremacist lose to the black woman, or we could use it to make the black woman lose to the white supremacist. the obvious choice for leftists would be to prioritize making the white supremacist lose, but tumblr users have devised a loop hole, where they agitate primarily for making the black woman lose, but omit the detail about who she would be losing to. this makes their stance more palatable to people who correctly believe that having a white supremacist president would be the worst possible outcome.

Fun fact- we don't even need to speculate about this outcome. *gestures to 2016, with a white woman and the exact same white supremacist* you think people would remember how this was *not* some incredible subversive victory for leftists.

Also for those of us who have been alive a little longer, the election of 2000. I was a Floridian third grader and yes, I am in fact still bitter my state was FORCED TO STOP RECOUNTING BY THE SUPREME COURT ON A PARTY LINE BASIS SO A TOTAL DUMBASS COULD WIN. Look up the "Brooks Brothers Riots." Roger Stone's been ratfucking for a long time.

The W Bush years were not kind to the left. Took us like six years to finally get our shit together and by then a lot of his deregulation had helped blow up the economy to the point it took nearly all of Obama's eight years to fix it.

We have done this song and dance too many times already in my lifetime! NOT AGAIN.

Avatar

Anti-voting rhetoric will be the death of the left. Literally.

Not a single fucking Republican voted to protect roe. It was fucking overturned in the first place bc trump got three Supreme Court appointments.

Every fucking thing wrong in this country is almost certainly the result of Republicans being in power. In 2020, Texas cut half of the polling places in black neighborhoods, and doubled them in white ones, regardless of population. It was Republicans bitching about mail in voting, and constantly, constantly fearmonger about voter fraud. Literally, their platform is about making civil rights harder to practice.

Would you like to know why? It’s because Republican politicians know better than anyone that higher voter participation means higher republican loss.

But what do I see from the online left, champions of the oppressed?

“Voting doesn’t do anything, the parties are the same, the system is rigged, etc, etc”

Don’t sit here and tell me you give a fuck about marginalized people if you aren’t ready to march your ass to the voting booth and vote out the party actively stripping their rights away.

Protest, donate, community build, unionize, and vote, vote, vote.

By the time direct action is the only option, it will be too fucking late.

If voting didn't do anything, nobody would be trying to stop you from doing it
