I sent off this adorable portrait commission last week. The animals we call our friends always keep special places in our hearts. ❤️

Animals have faces and expressions as unique as humans. Demonstrated perfectly by Little Bunny, whose portrait I had the pleasure of drawing recently. 🐈

Hey all! First off, a recent pet portrait I did got on the radar! Which shocked me so much—it’s my first time getting on the radar. So thank you for all the notes and welcome to all the new folks!
I also have some good news about my pet portrait commissions.
I’m still figuring things out, so forgive me for any hiccups over there.
You can now order the traditional colored pencil pet portraits and the new digital “royal” pet portraits via Etsy!
Hope I get to paint or draw some of your pets soon!
We’ve all met a dog who was totally a queen in a past life. 👑 I loved bringing Dorie’s royal personality to life in this painting!
Waffles, my most fashionable pet portrait subject so far. 🧇
I loved working on this portrait of handsome Chester, a black lab and coonhound mix. ☺️
Peach the orange tabby! 🐈 I drew her and her sister for one of my cousins.
A special dog named Sirius, who unfortunately passed away very young. I’m sure he is a happy boy among the trees! 🌲
Here’s the finished portrait of Cocoa, a chocolate lab who sadly has passed away. 😞 I loved bringing her to life on paper, though! 🐕
An in-progress shot of another Christmas portrait. I went out of my comfort zone and worked on dark brown paper. There was definitely a learning curve with this one, but I can’t wait to show you the result!
I drew my friend Lisa’s cat as a gift for her bridal shower! This kitty is named Tonks. She has quite the piercing glare.
Process photos for Coda’s portrait! Most artists will tell you that black and white are the two hardest colors to convey correctly, so this husky was a real challenge for me. I chose gray paper to act as a midtone for the extreme lights and darks.
Here are a few process photos I took while working on Tyla’s portrait. For the most part I work in layers, adding a base color before putting in highlights and lowlights. In this case, the tan paper I chose acted as the lightest areas of Tyla’s fur (besides her little white patch), so I worked mainly with darker colors and shadows. For stronger highlights and crisp details like whiskers and reflections on eyes, I use small amounts of gouache over the colored pencil.
Pet portrait of Mia, a cat with the biggest eyes I’ve ever seen! A bunch more pet portraits are inbound now that it’s almost Christmas! 🎄
A preview of the next pet portrait I want to show you all! This is the second one I did for this pet owner. I’ve loved working with colored pencils on toned paper for a while now, and cats and dogs really seem to lend themselves to this medium! 🐕🐈
Montana — one of two portraits I did for her owner.
