Experimenting with pattern making is way too much fun. I’ll definitely try to make more in my spare time.

We’re still in the digital sketch stage for this poster featuring edible plants in the Prunus genus! You can see though everything is still very rough, you still get a really good idea of what the final poster will look like.
I’m still experimenting with placement and color. What do you guys think of this background?
The digital sketch is coming together for my next edible plants poster! This time I’m drawing drupes, which include peaches, cherries, and (to my surprise) almonds! I was inspired by the delicious fruit I’ve been able to get in California this time of year. I had never had a good-tasting fresh apricot until moving here!
After the sketch is how I want it, I’ll move on to painting it in gouache.
Digital sketch vs. final poster.
Lately I’ve started using Photoshop to make mockups for my final artwork. It’s especially useful for images where there’s a collection of objects—Photoshop makes it easy to change positioning, flip, and resize each element. Plus I’m way faster at painting in Photoshop than on paper, so I can quickly create a color guide for my final piece.
I’ve got some exciting bird-related art coming up, but I’m also planning to make more edible plants posters, using this digital sketch method. Hint hint: the next one will be peachy! 🍑🍒
