The way he looks at the master without knowing that he is the master …
this is the funniest shit ever. both jack and martha were in love with the doctor and he didn't even bat an eye. but then he saw some random ass old man and went "i want him". and then the old man turned out to be his evil ex. man i love doctor who.
Because the whole point of Yana was how similar they were!! He wasn't an old random man, he was a sweet, kind man who kept trying to help people while the universe was dying!! He was keeping hope up for others when he himself had none!! He gave them something to believe in and then made his peace with staying behind to save them!! He was, in every way, someone the Doctor admired and always wanted to be. He was smarter than the people around him, almost as smart as the Doctor. The Doctor saw himself in him, the Doctor saw someone incredibly impressive in him and that's so SAD because that's what they could've been if it wasn't for all the history and fuckery between them. If it wasn't for what the Master had become. That's why they softly play "This is Gallifrey" in the background to all their scenes. Because this is as close to what Theta and Koschei could've become as they ever got!! And this is why Utopia is forever going to be my favourite episode, it's SO GOOD.
